"Gov. Rod Blagojevich was right in pointing out and condemning the corrupting and dangerous influence of video games and its connection to gang violence and other crimes."
"Ideas have consequences and violent ideas planted in young, impressionable and sometimes vulnerable minds can have deadly ones."
"He is wrong, however, in asking for criminal penalties for retailers who sell these violent video games. But Blagojevich's critics need to connect their own dots. If parents are responsible for their children ... and we are responsible for our own actions, and video retailers are innocent, then why are not gun retailers innocent for selling a legal product, and those who misuse them responsible for their own actions? At least guns can be used in self-defense to save lives. Video games cannot." ... |

"The public is becoming increasingly less tolerant of growing wildlife populations, according to a new survey of the nation's wildlife professionals. As the populations of species such as bear and deer continue to grow, and contact with people becomes more frequent, wildlife professionals say they fear that the public is beginning to view wildlife as pests and not with the awe and respect they deserve." ...
"However, hunting and trapping in some states have been threatened by legislation that would prevent them from being used as wildlife management tools. This can have detrimental effects. According to the survey, without hunting and trapping economic damage caused by wildlife would skyrocket over 200 percent - from its current level of $22 billion to $70 billion." A Long Island hero credited with saving four lives last Friday was arrested less than 48 hours later for possessing a stolen handgun, cops said yesterday.
Priestly Green, 22 — who rushed into a burning house to pull his ex-girlfriend, an 18-year-old man, and two young children, ages 2 and 3, to safety Dec. 17 — was busted after Nassau County cops pulled him over for a routine traffic stop.
Inside his Chevy Malibu, officers found a semiautomatic 9 mm handgun with its serial number removed, according to authorities.
"He filed off the serial numbers to avoid detection," said Officer Thomas Brussell.
Green was charged with criminal possession of a weapon. |

Most octogenarians who head to Florida seek warmth and relaxation, but not the 82-year-old nephew of infamous gangster Charles "Lucky" Luciano — this snowbird migrated to the sunshine state to buy guns for the mob. Anthony "Tony L." Lucania admitted yesterday that he traveled to Deerfield Beach, Fla., this year to buy 16 handguns as part of a scheme to resell the firearms on the streets of New York for a profit.
The white-haired reputed wiseguy didn't fall far from the tree.
Lucania's notoriously ruthless uncle is credited with creating the American Mafia as it exists today and headed the crime family known as Genovese.
In entering his guilty plea in Brooklyn federal court, Lucania agreed to serve up to 2 1/4 years behind bars. |
