When it comes to the absolute embodiment of cool, Germany’s Luger has been at the top of the heap since its adoption. It’s been around for 123 years, yet it still manages to somehow look futuristic. The Pistole Parabellum, as far as the German Army was concerned, became the 9mm Pistole 08. As such, it held the unofficial title of “Most Prized Souvenir” throughout two world wars.

The holidays are here, and so are North Carolina’s most popular hunting days. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are traditionally very active hunting days, and with people continuing to recreate outdoors due to COVID-19, wildlife law enforcement officers at the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission expect this year will be no exception.

The 9.3x72R, introduced in the late 19th century, is most often chambered for drilling rifles. Many guns chambered for this cartridge were made in Europe as the third barrel of a side-by-side 12 gauge shotgun, the rifle barrel nestled below and between the shotgun barrels. This practical arrangement allowed hunters and gamekeepers to choose to fire a blast of shot or a bullet, depending on the game they were hunting. The 9.3x72R was developed initially as a black powder cartridge, but it did successfully make the transition to smokeless powder.

“Ohio Senate passes concealed carry bill over objections of law enforcement groups,” Fox 19 reported Wednesday. “Opponents, including the Ohio FOP, argue the bill hamstrings law enforcement and makes Ohioans less safe.” “The bill makes concealed carry licenses optional—thereby removing background checks and training minimums—for those 21 and over who wish to carry a firearm,” the report elaborates. “The bill also eliminates the requirement that Ohioans promptly notify law enforcement officers during a traffic stop if they have a concealed weapon.”

Stephen Gutowski was awarded the Journalist of the Year at Gun Rights Policy Conference in 2021. He’s won this award before. I’ve been seeing him at GRPC and some other events around the country. At GRPC in Chicago a few years ago, we were walking and talking with someone and he said he’d like to be on the show when I get to the DC/VA area. I finally made a trip and was able to film a show with him. We met at Mount Vernon, VA, at George Washington’s house and took a scenic drive next to the Potomac River and headed into Old Town Alexandria.

Headlined by a collection of weapons owned by Napoleon Bonaparte, the Rock Island Auction Company’s December Premier Auction took in a total of $25 million in sales, making it the second-highest grossing gun auction ever. The first-, third-, and fourth-highest also happened to be RIAC events, all taking place since last December, including last May’s Sale of the Century, which cleared $30 million. Safe to say, the company is on roll. In 2021, RIAC realized an astounding $121 million in sales, also a record.

Something fishy is going on here. Kimber, a company long known for offering enhanced versions of the classic M1911 pistol, appears to have splashed into the hot micro-compact market with a gun called the R7 Mako that looks and feels nothing like any of its earlier offerings. That’s by design, though, because Kimber reached the same realization as many other gunmakers: Concealed-carry handguns are hot commodities, and micro-compact handguns are the hottest segment of that market. As we’ve learned before in these pages, the concept of diminutive pistols with double-stack magazines is nothing new, but the other variable of market success is timing.

A federal appeals court this week granted a stay blocking the state of California from enforcing its draconian firearm magazine prohibition law. The stay, issued by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in the case of Duncan v. Bonta, is set to run for 150 days, noting that, if the backers in the lawsuit file a petition with the U.S. Supreme Court on the matter during that period, the stay will continue until the case's final disposition with the nation's highest court.

There is fearmongering, and then there is Newsweek-level fearmongering.

The once-respected news magazine – which a former reporter recently described as “a painful embarrassment to anyone who toiled there in its golden age,” which is now known for its incendiary click-bait – is at it again, blasting conservatives, gun owners and the Second Amendment, while warning its shrinking über-woke readership of a coming civil war.

On Nov. 3, 2021, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen, an NRA-backed challenge to New York’s highly restrictive may-issue licensing scheme for concealed carry. These licenses are the only way for residents of my home state to lawfully carry a gun outside their dwellings for self-defense.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Reporters today are far removed from America's founding values and are alarmed and contemptuous of gun owners as dangerous lower classes. — HENRY ALLEN, WASHINGTON POST
