Cops in Nye County, Nevada say a homeowner will face no charges after they shot a 48-year-old home invader who not only forced his way into the home, but then kicked open the bedroom door. Displaying exemplary gun control, the homeowner shot Shawn Richard, 48, center mass, ending the attack.

Fortunately the homeowner had his defensive gun handy because Richard, who was wanted for violating his parole, was carrying a shotgun he’s picked up during an earlier home invasion.

Pressure is mounting on the CDC’s over its decision to remove self-defense stats from its gun facts website.

This week, letters were sent to the CDC director by numerous high-ranking Republicans. They include demands for answers from some of those who will directly oversee the agency in the new Congress. And we have an idea of how the CDC plans to defend its decision to scrub the stats after pressure from gun-control advocates.

In some ways, New Jersey’s measure goes even further than its inspiration. While it adopted many of the same tactics—including a broad range of locations deemed too sensitive for licensed carry and a default gun ban on private property unless otherwise permitted by the owner—its license application requirements contain a novel provision: a public carry insurance mandate.

I’ve carried a handgun for most of my adult life. During that time, I’ve learned a lot of things about carrying concealed. Some of those lessons came from others who are more experienced, some came through the many training courses I’ve attended and some I learned on my own—the hard way. If you’re new to carrying a concealed handgun, especially if you’re just considering it, you should know that it’s not all rainbows and unicorns. That said, do not be discouraged from doing so; just know what you’re getting into.

CA: Part of Gov. Newsom’s Gun Law Struck Down

I bring this up because federal judge Roger Benitez just voided part of Senate Bill 1327, a gun-control bill which received final passage on June 29, just after the Bruen case, at the urging of Gov. Gavin Newsom. In the Senate summary, it “establishes privately-enforced civil causes of action against persons who manufacture or cause to be manufactured, distribute, transport, or import into the state, or cause to be distributed or transported or imported into the state, keep for sale or offer or expose for sale, or give or lend certain firearms.”

The judge especially objected to the bill forcing the gun makers and sellers to pay for the legal fees of private persons bringing the lawsuits.

While Dr. King and SCLC pursued a strategy and philosophy of nonviolence, Lowndes County seemed to have been more militant and some Blacks there were armed.

The thing to remember is that many African Americans in the South were armed, particularly in Alabama. They were always armed. It was always about self-defense. People should understand that even when SCLC went into communities, those communities always had guns. Guns and shotguns were the exception in the North, in both the white and the Black community.

Biden Administration, State Governments Carried Out Elaborate Hoax On Gun Owners

In this second half of the Biden Administration regime, we are seeing more and more emphasis placed on reining in the armed citizenry. And State Governments under Democrat Party leadership, like that of New York, are fully on board with this. Expect to see more of this, much more, in the weeks and months ahead.

The argument NY Governor Kathy Hochul makes in support of the Concealed Carry Improvement Act (CCIA) boils down to these two propositions:

People are afraid of guns and of average law-abiding, rational, responsible gun owners who keep and bear them.
Average law-abiding, rational, responsible gun owners pose an imminent threat to public safety and order.

NY: Gun Rights Group Files Emergency Request With Supreme Court

The Gun Owners of America (GOA), the foundation’s parent group, on Dec. 21 filed an emergency order asking Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor to lift a Second Circuit Court stay on an injunction by a U.S. District Court against New York’s recently passed Concealed Carry Improvement Act (CCIA).

The request was made to Sotomayor because she oversees the Second Circuit Court in which the stay was granted. Sotomayor can grant the request, deny it, or refer it to the full court for a ruling. If she denies the request, GOA can make its request to its choice of any of the other justices until a majority has decided.

Five Republican senators are pressing for information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about the removal of information related to the defensive use of firearms from the CDC’s website after officials were lobbied by activist gun control organizations.

“Lobbying groups should not be able to influence your research and reporting…” the senators wrote. “…The CDC must return to providing transparent and data-driven reporting on [defensive gun use], and to provide Congress and the American people with an explanation of why the CDC allowed gun control advocates to censor valid research and reporting conducted on the subject of defensive gun use.”

New York Attorney General Letitia James joined a coalition of 23 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief supporting federal efforts to ban the possession of firearms whose serial numbers have been removed. The brief, filed in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, urges the court to overturn a ruling from a federal judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia that a federal statute prohibiting possession of a gun whose serial number has been removed is unconstitutional.

CO: Colorado considers changing its Red Flag Law after mass shooting at nightclub

A Nov. 19 shooting that killed five people and wounded 19 at a Colorado Springs nightclub has officials considering changes to strengthen Colorado’s red flag law, particularly in self-declared “Second Amendment sanctuaries,” where emergency petitions to remove a person’s guns are filed less frequently and usually denied.

The three-year-old state law allows law enforcement officials or family members to seek a court order to seize the guns of a person who poses a threat to themselves or others. But the Club Q shooting underscores a fundamental challenge for it and other red flag laws: Sheriffs often refuse to use the measures based on a belief that they infringe on the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms.

...the W.D. Texas erred when it dismissed claims by Defense Distributed and the Second Amendment Foundation against the New Jersey Attorney General for lack of jurisdiction. Fifth Circuit (2022 pt. 1): The W.D. Texas erred again when it severed those claims and transferred them to New Jersey; we can't order the D.N.J. to send the claims back, so we order the W.D. Texas to request that the claims be transferred back. D.N.J. (2022): No. Fifth Circuit (2022 pt. 2): If you won't honor the trial court's request, then we humbly beseech you to honor ours. D.N.J. (2022): Still no. Fifth Circuit (2022 pt. 3): [with barely concealed rage] Ordinarily, these requests are honored in the interest of comity, but there's nothing we can do.

“The restrictions that Democrats and Governor Murphy enacted on concealed carry in New Jersey ignore the Second Amendment, defy the United States Supreme Court, and will do nothing to stop violent crimes committed with illegal guns.

“Thankfully, this unconstitutional law is already being challenged in federal court. Given the clear language of the Bruen ruling, it’s only a matter of time before this abomination of a law gets struck down.

Ed.: Friday, plaintiffs in both cases against the law filed motions for TROs, to be heard the week of Jan 3rd. NJ filed a motion to consolidate the two cases.

Before a large contingent from the group Moms Demand Action and other "common-sense" gun law advocates, NJ  Governor Phil Murphy signed a bill strengthening the concealed carry gun laws in the state at the Scotch Plains Library on Thursday, Dec. 22.

Ed.: The law went into effect immediately, so don't carry until you're familiar with the new rules, which pretty much ban even licensed carry everywhere except sidewalks. No need to be a criminal test case--gun groups have already filed strong lawsuits.

The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors wants to meet with the School Board in January about arming its public school teachers.

The decision to request a joint meeting comes on the heels of the School Board passing, and then pausing until March, a resolution making the ECC auditorium, among its other non-school properties, a gun free zone.

The move angered some members of the Board of Supervisors, as it meets in the ECC auditorium and some of those members bring guns to the meetings.

Without exception, the largest share of firearms traced by the ATF were originally sold in-state. Meanwhile, those that were determined to be from out of state typically came from a bordering state – though this was not always the case.

For example, Texas, a state with some of the least restrictive gun laws in the country, was among the top three origin states for firearms traced by the ATF, not including the states it borders. Florida was among the top sources for firearms linked to crime in nine non-bordering states, and Georgia was among the top sources for eight.

CA: Courts Put On Notice ~ Time to End California’s Sneaky Handgun Roster Gun-Ban Scheme

The Second Amendment Foundation has filed a memorandum of points and authorities in support of its motion for a preliminary injunction or, alternatively, a motion for summary judgment in a case known as Renna v. Bonta, which challenges California’s novel ban on hundreds of handgun models under its “Unsafe Handgun Act” (UHA).

This ban applies to handguns commonly used for lawful purposes by millions of Americans across the U.S. The UHA maintains a “Roster” of handguns, which may be lawfully sold in California. Handguns deemed “unsafe” under the UHA’s various technical and other requirements are excluded from the Roster and, therefore, may NOT be sold in California.

Kevin Michalowski has some unequivocal and sincerely held views on the purpose of the Second Amendment.

“You have the right to stay alive and not live in fear of [evil people]. You have the right to defend yourself as you see fit,” Michalowski told The Epoch Times. “But you should get the training to ensure you can do it legally.”

Michalowski is a retired police officer, executive editor of Concealed Carry magazine, and content director for the U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA).

CA: Petaluma adopts increased gun safety laws

Having a handgun inside your home puts occupants at increased risk - more than double - for a deadly homicide than those without handguns in the home.

Hoping to mitigate the risk for those who do own firearms, Petaluma recently introduced new gun rules.

Petaluma Deputy Police Chief Brian Miller explained them.

"What we do know is that applying trigger locks or using lock boxes when storing firearms in homes reduces that risk of firearm injury and death," Miller said. "So the proposed ordinance would add regulations requiring all firearms and precursors to firearms to either be stored safely in a locked container or locked with a triggering device."

IL: If all lives truly matter in America, passing HB 5855, the Protect Illinois Communities Act is a start to prove it

No one outside the military needs high-capacity magazines intended to kill many people quickly. Data shows that other countries such as Australia and New Zealand who banned such weapons have been able to reduce their incidents of gun violence.

Resolving this issue will require an incremental process. A first step would entail the passage of HB 5855, the Protect Illinois Communities Act. Additional steps would include adequate funding for education, mental health/behavioral health, workforce development, programming, and building economic capacity particularly for marginalized communities.

Prospects for States to Pass Constitutional Carry in 2023

Constitutional Carry is defined by the state government as not requiring a permit to carry a handgun, concealed or openly, in most public spaces.

In 2023, there are two prime candidates to pass Constitutional Carry bills. They are Florida and Nebraska.

Governor Ron DeSantis in Florida has repeatedly said he will see a Constitutional Carry bill passed while governor. After his resounding success in re-election and the election of large Republican majorities in the Florida legislature, this appears to be plausible. Over the last several years, Constitutional Carry bills have been kept from passage by the Republican leadership. Governor DeSantis has changed the equation of power in the Republican party in Florida.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Today the taxing power, rather than chattel slavery, is the instrument by which the parasitical element of the population subsists. And that element, which includes politicians, panics at the slightest reduction in the state's power to plunder. Once you start liberating taxpayers, even a little tiny bit, nobody knows where it may end. —Joseph Sobran
