Airport officials have taken so many scissors, knives and nail files from travelers since Sept. 11 that the head security officer jokes he could build an airplane with them.
Nail clippers. Forks, knives and spoons. Corkscrews. Bottle openers. Tweezers. Nose hair clippers. Cigar cutters. Straight razors. Screwdrivers. Letter openers. The stuff is not illegal. It's just not allowed on an airplane anymore.
--This is stupid! Time to write your congressmen and tell them so! |

Boston's homicide rate is up 65% compared to last year. Criminal justice experts said that, in one sense, "Boston is a victim of its own success."
--They don't explain what the "experts" mean, and they certainly don't mention "gun control" at all -- except to note that the use of handguns in homicides have "only risen 7%". Which proves, once again, that gun control has nothing whatsoever to do with "injury", "killing", or "crime". |

"In a sign of the need for security, Interior Minister Yunis Qanuni arrived at the cabinet meeting in a red pick-up truck -- the transport of choice for both the vanquished Taliban and the Northern Alliance that defeated it -- accompanied by about six bodyguards armed with Kalashnikov rifles."
--Their leaders are showing the same "civilized" sense of hypocrisy experienced in the U.S. |

"...Besides infringing my Second Amendment rights, the arrest also violated my right protected by the Colorado constitution, Article II, Section 13, which guarantees to every person the right to keep and bear arms in defense of person, home, and property. Apparently the constitution does not apply in Denver, because the city council and mayor of Denver are in fact enforcing an unconstitutional, and therefore illegal, law..." --Rick Stanley for U.S. Senate |

In the not-too-distant future, United States Army soldiers will use a rifle to help them smoke out enemies they can't even see. Thermal imaging, laser guidance, and "smart" bullets allow this rifle to blast targets behind physical barriers and at night with pinpoint accuracy. |

"Government should exercise its authority to protect our liberty, which is the framework within which we can all pursue our various ends as free people. ... The events of Sept. 11 dictate that we refocus government on its proper role of protecting our liberties. That means less government interference in society, not more." --Edward H. Crane, President of the Cato Institute |

Antonio Martinez wasn't the target of the drug raid and wasn't armed when a deputy shot and killed him. The 19-year-old had been asleep when the SWAT team rammed the door and stormed the mobile home.
Travis County Sheriff Frasier refused to name the officer who shot Martinez. "It's either an accident...or a situation where the officer felt he was in danger."
--An "accident"? Or the officer "felt in danger" when the victim was asleep? This was murder, pure and simple. And the killer is still at large. |
