Americans are often encouraged by anti-gun politicians to embrace United Kingdom-style gun control. This would entail restrictive gun owner licensing, a near total ban on all handguns (handguns are permitted but heavily restricted in Northern Ireland), a ban on commonly-owned semi-automatic rifles, and a near prohibition on the use of firearms and even non-lethal alternatives for self-defense. Moreover, U.S. gun controllers are egged on in their efforts by the UK press.

There is a mass movement in France that is spreading around the world. The French government of President Macron is reeling. The protests have been successful in stopping implementation of a “green” tax on fuel. Police have been out in mass. How many guns do the Yellow Vests have? They are probably not carrying any, by choice. They have plenty of guns available. The situation and tactics do not call for them. |

Is there a relationship between concealed-carry laws and violent crime rates? Researchers from the Mayo Clinic and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine say, “No.” Their study will appear in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons later this year. Dr. Mark Hamill, lead author of the study, presented the findings in October at Clinical Congress 2018. “We found no relationship between the type of concealed-carry process or the general permissiveness of the process and increased rates of homicide or other violent crime,” he concluded. |

Authorities often remind citizens not to keep personal guns stored in cars but it looks like one Staunton police officer didn't get the memo, resulting in multiple guns being stolen. Not only did the officer lose two handguns and a muzzleloader, she also had criminal case files stolen, according to an affidavit for a search warrant recently filed in Staunton Circuit Court. |

A federal judge has upheld a ban on using dogs to hunt deer in Louisiana's Kisatchie National Forest. U.S. District Court Judge Dee Drell wrote in the Friday ruling that there was "substantial evidence" to support the Forest Service's decision and that attempts to call into question the data the federal agency used to support the ban were "unpersuasive." |

Deer hunters using modern guns have one more chance to collect on their scouting time and tag a trophy during the Christmas holiday hunt, which runs Wednesday through Friday. The hunt is another testament to the strong status of deer in Arkansas. As the state's deer population has grown, this opportunity was added to help manage the deer herd and offer hunters another reason to get together during the holidays for some fellowship and fun. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy ... censorship. When any government, or any church, for that matter, undertakes to say to it's subjects, 'This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,' the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything. You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." --Robert A. Heinlein, "Revolt in 2100" (Pg. 68-69, Baen Books paperback edition, 1999 printing) |
