I wake up every day and thank God that we have Lauren Boebert as our 3rd Congressional District representative. She has stood up for all that is important to me and thousand of voters in CD-3. Nobody is stronger on the Second Amendment and our right to bear harms. Nobody is stronger on the southern border, where thousands of people are flooding into our country. Not to mention the thousands of pounds of fentanyl that are killing our people.
Nobody is stronger in protecting our forest and water management on the western range. Nobody is stronger in protecting our Constitution and working for a limited federal government. |

The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments in Miami during the week of March 21 in a challenge to a 2018 Florida law that prevents people under age 21 from buying guns.
The National Rifle Association filed the challenge after the Legislature and then-Gov. Rick Scott approved the law in response to the February 2018 mass shooting at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that killed 17 students and faculty members. Former student Nikolas Cruz, then 19, used a semi-automatic weapon in the attack. |

A Cole County court’s decision upholding the law is being appealed to the Missouri Supreme Court.
Emancipation was monumentally great, but apparently the Civil War and all that blood spilled didn’t settle much else. A new Jim Crow is arising, as well as a dangerous sort of Federalism where the US is just a collection of jolly little fiefdoms that can ignore federal law, and people’s constitutional rights depend on their zip code. |
Packing the Supreme Court should be off the table, but (long) term limits may well make sense

Three decisions by presidents and Senate majority leaders have produced the court’s current six-to-three conservative supermajority, one likely to overrule Roe v. Wade and embrace a radical interpretation of the Second Amendment that nullifies life-saving gun safety laws. Most devious was Mitch McConnell’s 2016 refusal to give President Obama’s moderate pick of Judge Merrick Garland a hearing after Antonin Scalia’s death early that year. That was followed by the installation of Neil Gorsuch in the seat, capped off by the mad rush to approve President Trump’s nominee, Amy Coney Barrett, following the late 2020 death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. |

“Stopping the ‘Iron Pipeline’ is possible if New York leads the way. Despite having among the toughest gun laws in the country, our state experiences too many gun-related deaths due to firearms originating elsewhere,” said Senate Deputy Leader Michael Gianaris. “While the federal government will not take action to combat gun violence, New York should use data to expose states that are part of the problem. I am pleased Governor Hochul signed this important measure into law.” |

Conservatives are blaming Proposition 47, which reduced a number of low-level crimes from felonies to misdemeanors, and police defunding for the upsurge. Also predictably, liberals are pointing to a surge in gun ownership during the pandemic as well as economic hardship and isolation caused by COVID-19. I doubt any of those theories offer a full explanation.
Prop. 47 boosted larceny thefts, but has had no impact on murder rates. Despite the rhetoric, virtually no police department has seen funding cuts. There's no way the people who bought legal guns during the pandemic are using them to commit armed robberies. Poor people don't turn to a life of crime because of economic struggles. |

Semi-automatic firearm function depends upon three components—gun, ammo and magazine—all working together in harmony. It’s not much different than a three-legged stool. If all legs are solid, you sit. If one leg breaks, you tumble. Most shooters will clean their guns and pay attention to their ammunition, but magazines are often overlooked. |

We all are guilty of making assumptions about others. Whether it is a coworker or a neighbor, we can tend to be lulled into both a false sense of security or outright dismissal of potentially threatening behavior.
After all: most people just want to live in peace. If that weren’t the case, violent crime would be at a fevered pitch, and mankind would probably not exist in its present societal conditions. |

Likewise, we have Americans who favor abortion rights but are strong Second Amendment advocates. Admittedly, you are more likely to find Republicans being pro-life and pro-gun and Democrats being pro-choice and pro-gun control, but many people do not fit neatly into either party.
The second mistake overlooks the 40 percent of Americans who identify as independents, according to a recent Gallup poll. They definitely do not line up with either party on all of the issues. They may be 50-50 or they may have views that are not clearly embraced by either party. |

A recent announcement calls attention to the introduction of a new bill. This proposed law, H.R.6247 – ‘To ensure that residents of covered federally assisted rental housing may lawfully possess firearms, and for other purposes’ is what I’d consider commonsense. Not only that, I’m flummoxed as to what’s been going on that this even needs to be proposed! Has this kind of discrimination been going on? |

Stop selling guns - even toy ones. This is the clarion call of the Grassy Park Community Policing Forum as it calls on retailers to stop selling imitation firearms and for police to confiscate them.
The forum serves an area that experiences daily shootings and where drugs and gangsterism thrive.
Familiarity with guns from an early age, in a violent society, may lead to a tendency for violence and mimicking of gangsters, said CPF chairperson Melvin Jonkers. |
