The .357 SIG cartridge was introduced in 1994, as a combination of efforts from the Swiss-German company SIG SAUER and the American munitions manufacturing company Federal Premium Ammunitions. With a rimless, bottlenecked case, the .357 SIG was made to mimic the velocity and stopping power of the .357 Magnum, but was designed to be fired from a semi-automatic pistol.

Introduced the same year named for their new lever action rifle, the Model 1873, shooters know the .44-40 Winchester by a few different names – the .44 Winchester Center Fire (WCF), .44 Winchester for short, or some called it the .44 Largo.
This new rifle and cartridge swaggered boldly into the shooting community, being carried to the peak of gun culture in the late 1800s by Colt's introduction of their Frontier Six-Shooter. This revolver was based on the immensely popular Single Action Army, and was chambered in the .44-40 Winchester.

Whenever I advise new shooters on how to choose their first handgun, I stress that proper fit is the most-critical aspect, second only to reliability. To drive the point home, I liken it to a glove that must accommodate both of their hands at the same time. The better the gun fits, the more control the shooter has over recoil and the faster their follow-up shots will be. |

As 2022 and President Biden's first full calendar year in office comes to an end, the White House has been trying to frame his year as one of significant accomplishments and lots of "building back better." But Americans — dealing with negative wage growth of more than three percent, struggling to make ends meet while living paycheck-to-paycheck, staring down a crime crisis in their neighborhoods, and watching fentanyl ravage their communities — know the opposite to be true. |

Few if any people in South Dakota will argue that the state’s vaunted pheasant hunting industry in 2022 is as strong as in the past. Compared to prior decades, the slow and steady declines are apparent in both license sales and bird numbers and, to some extent, how out-of-state visitors who pump millions into the East River economy plan their trips. |

All experienced hunters have one thing in common: We all had good teachers and mentors who showed us how to start down the hunting trail. Dads, granddads, uncles and other family members usually took us to the woods and showed us the dozens of things we needed to learn as hunters — everything from how to sight in a rifle to field dressing a deer that they happily passed on to us without a second thought. |

Smith & Wesson is a staple among fans both young and old. For those fans who may be a bit older or have trouble racking the slide the S&W EZ series of pistols has been a godsend, allowing them to operate guns they couldn’t previously. Earlier this year S&W dropped the Equalizer, which EZ inspired riff off their Shield Plus design and since then it’s been a best seller. |

On this installment of our Select Fire series, we traveled to Smith & Wesson's historic Springfield, Massachusetts factory to see what goes into making some of the finest revolversin the world. Celebrating 170 years in the firearms industry, the company gets its name from the 1852 partnership between Horace Smith and D.B. Wesson. The City of Petaluma, California has adopted a requirement that all firearms within the city limits must be disabled with a locking device or placed in a locked container inside the home.
But, is that constitutional under a landmark 2008 Supreme Court ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller? On Page 58 of that ruling, the late Justice Antonin Scalia wrote, “We must also address the District’s requirement (as applied to respondent’s handgun) that firearms in the home be rendered and kept inoperable at all times.

There are so many legendary firearms that capture the hearts and minds of shooters and collectors. Among the most iconic of those firearms is the Colt Single Action Army. Few guns evoke the spirit of the Old West as does a Single Action Army. For this reason, reproductions of the Single Action Army, also known as the SAA, have remained popular among American shooters. This demand for SAA revolvers has been met by a wide variety of importers and manufacturers over the years, which explains the sheer quantity and variety of Single Action Army-style revolvers on the market. |
