Sometimes in researchinig stories to share with TTAG’s audience you come across an old one that still makes you shake your head. Sometimes you come across an old one that makes you shake your head so much you just have to share it. After all these years, what this grandfather says, in spite of his obvious grief, is still a head scratcher. So here’s the story:

Years ago, Massad Ayoob once told me, “In a fight for your life, if it’s a fair fight, your tactics suck.” Like many of us, I’ve heard (and used) that same expression countless times.

Diamondback is best known for its compact 9mm semi-auto pistols, AR line, and interesting 5.7mm DBX platform. However, they have been creeping into the world of wheelguns for a few years starting with their double-action (that looks like a single-action) 9-shot Sidekick rimfire revolvers which debuted in 2021.

Breaking new ground as a company, Diamondback moved into the centerfire revolver market at SHOT '24 when they debuted the Self Defense Revolver, or SDR, in a bright stainless finish, soon followed up by models in a more subdued glass bead satin stainless and a tough-wearing black nitride.

A New Hampshire law set to take effect at the beginning of next year will empower residents to exercise their Second Amendment rights while commuting to and from work.

House Bill 1336 will prohibit employers who receive public funding from preventing employees from storing firearms and ammunition in their locked vehicles while parked on the company’s premises. The measure also bars employers from inquiring into how employees store their firearms or searching vehicles for guns.

It's a conversation that Marian Betz admits can feel awkward at first. Broaching it might even be viewed as questioning the adequacy of someone else’s parenting. But Betz, the mother of two teenage girls in Denver, Colo., says that because of the ubiquitous nature of firearms in American homes, she regularly asks other parents about securing guns. In fact, she has done so since her kids started having playdates and sleepovers a decade ago.

A new Minnesota law prohibits guns with “binary triggers” that allow for more rapid fire, causing a weapon to fire one round when the trigger is pulled and another when it is released.

In Delaware, a law adds colleges and universities to a list of school zones where guns are prohibited, with exceptions for those working in their official capacity such as law officers and commissioned security guards.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is warning Kentucky residents that, if they choose to participate in the state’s medical marijuana program that’s set to launch imminently, they will be prohibited from buying or possessing firearms under federal law.

As Kentucky prepares to implement the medical cannabis law that Gov. Andy Beshear (D) signed last year, ATF has put residents on notice about the ongoing federal ban on gun ownership by people who use marijuana, regardless of individual state policies.

This year, we celebrated the 15th anniversary of our Surveillance-Self Defense (SSD) guide. How’d we celebrate? We kept at it—continuing to work on, refine, and update one of the longest running security and privacy guides on the internet.

Technology changes quickly enough as it is, but so does the language we use to describe that technology. In order for SSD to thrive, it needs careful attention throughout the year. So, we like to think of SSD as a garden, always in need of a little watering, maybe some trimming, and the occasional mowing down of dead technologies.

It's unclear if a woman accused of shooting and killing a man on Christmas will face criminal charges, according to the Houston Police Department.

The shooting happened around noon at an apartment complex in west Houston off Lakeside Estates Drive, which is near the intersection of Wilcrest Drive and Briar Forest Drive.

Investigators said it happened around noon. They said they responded to reports of a shooting at the complex and when they got there they found a 22-year-old man dead. He had been shot.

According to investigators, a 24-year-old woman told them the shooting was a result of a domestic dispute and she shot the man in self-defense.

By now, everyone who has been paying any attention knows that Daniel Penny has been acquitted of all charges in the death of Jordan Neely.

Rather than rehash for the umpteenth time all of the details of the case, or offer the same kind of analysis that every political commentator can be relied upon to make, it is to the lessons for self-defense that this episode supplies to which I draw the reader’s attention.

First, those of Neely’s apologists who now say that Penny’s actions were unjustified because Neely hadn’t actually harmed, i.e., physically assaulted, any of the passengers to whom he was motioning and issuing murderous threats, sound beyond foolish.

U.S. Representative Barry Moore from Alabama has joined Representative Eric Burlison of Missouri in co-sponsoring a bill that seeks to dismantle and shut down the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). In the past, I have been skeptical of this idea as eliminating the agency does not necessarily put an end to some of the amoral legislation it enforces, and moving these duties over to the FBI would be like complaining that your 3rd-grade teacher is unfair and replacing them with the Gestapo. However, Burlison and Moore have a different solution in mind, suggesting that the ATF’s authority revert to individual states.

A chilling encounter in a quiet Florida neighborhood concluded with an intruder behind bars and a homeowner vindicated for his decisive use of legal force in self-defense. Late Tuesday night, a resident of Lake Wales acted within his rights when he shot an intruder, Cameron McGuire, 34, who had unlawfully entered his home.

John Coles, the homeowner, was startled awake around 11:35 PM by his dog’s barking. From his bedroom, he spotted McGuire, a Caucasian male, inside his home, unsettlingly close to the family’s personal belongings.

The incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on December 26, 2024, in the 4200 block of Tampico Street near Hirsch Road in the Trinity/Houston Gardens area, leaving three juveniles injured and a wave of community concern.

The victim, a 25-year-old man, was walking through an apartment complex when four teens, aged 12 to 14, allegedly confronted him with what appeared to be firearms. Demanding money at gunpoint, the juveniles may have thought they had the upper hand. However, the victim refused to become another statistic. Rather, he quickly drew his weapon, firing at the attackers in an act of self-defense.

The Supreme Court’s most recent Second Amendment decision could boost the government’s ability to disarm certain Americans in the long run. But it appears to have pushed two federal appeals court judges to the opposite conclusion in a new ruling on a non-violent felon’s gun rights.

On Monday, the en banc Third Circuit Court of Appeals returned the first decision to side with a Second Amendment challenger in a case the Supreme Court vacated and remanded after its Rahimi opinion. For the second time, it ruled that the government may not disarm Bryan Range over his 30-year-old felony conviction for lying on a food stamp application.

Federal public defender Kendra Hutchinson braved an uphill climb on December 12, presenting a despondent Second Amendment challenge before a panel consisting of U.S. Second Circuit Judges and Biden appointees Beth Robinson, Myrna Perez and Allison Nathan. Needless to say, any argument based on Americans’ gun rights is bound to fall on deaf ears in this kangaroo court of bad actors, but I digress.

A federal appeals court ruled that a law barring individuals with a felony from owning firearms is unconstitutional on Monday.

Bryan Range was convicted of food stamp fraud about 30 years ago. He was subsequently prohibited from owning a gun due to the severity of his crime.

Range had defrauded the government out of $2,458 by lying on a food stamp application in 1995. He was sentenced to probation and stripped of his Second Amendment rights unknowingly, according to The Tucson Sentinel.

At least one parent of a student at Memorial Junior High School was upset when her child received a toy gun from a school giveaway just before Christmas.

Kinice Armstrong said her eighth-grade daughter came home with the rifle-style toy on Dec. 18. The Nerf Roblox Zombie Attack is red with a snakeskin texture and a snake head at the end. It features an ammunition clip, tactical scope and rifle rest. The toy gun shoots pellet darts.
