The 300 Winchester Magnum (300 Win Mag) and 308 Winchester (308 Win) are the two most successful 30-caliber big game hunting and long-distance shooting rifle cartridges in the world. Although they both shoot the same diameter bullets, the 300 Win Mag and the 308 Winchester each have their distinct advantages when it comes to cartridge selection.

The Hill is reporting that so-called “gun violence prevention advocates”—known to most people as gun prohibitionists—are “feeling disappointed” that Joe Biden, having served nearly one full year in office, has not made any progress on gun control.

They are upset with his tepid reaction to the Oxford High School shooting in Michigan and the fact that gun control lobbyist David Chipman was withdrawn from consideration to head the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, where he formerly worked as an agent.

Many modern handguns pack 10 or more rounds of 9mm into a polymer frame that’ll fit in a pocket. Those guns generally have good sights and triggers—and increasingly, they’re designed to be paired with a reflex-style electronic sight. So why would you choose anything less capable for the serious business of concealed carry?

It is a rather curious thing, when one stops to think about it, that the broad right of self-defense, and the narrower fundamental right contained in it and inextricably bound to it—the fundamental, natural, and unalienable right of armed self-defense—would have to come up for review by the U.S. Supreme at all. After all, the right of self-defense/the right of self-preservation, and the concomitant natural right of armed self-defense are axiomatic; self-evident true.

In 2021, more Nevadans purchased firearms than ever before. It’s too bad that state lawmakers responded by passing legislation that criminalized custom gun makers and their customers. Thankfully, the law didn’t stick — a state judge struck it down earlier this month.

Sen. Tom Brewer, a decorated veteran who knows something about overcoming adversity, is loading up another effort to obtain a victory that has eluded gun-rights advocates in Nebraska. Brewer said he will introduce a proposal during the upcoming legislative session to allow Nebraskans to carry a concealed handgun without meeting the current requirements of a criminal background check, a $100 fee and an eight- to 16-hour class on safe gun handling.

VoteVets is a hybrid political action group that operates as both a PAC and a Super PAC by donating money directly to political campaigns, and by raising and spending unlimited amounts of cash for “independent expenditures,” such as ad campaigns that target conservative candidates and issues, while supporting liberal issues and politicians.

What did Doc Holiday, Billy the Kid, Pat Garret, Pearl Hart and John Wesley Hardin have in common? They all carried Colt’s Double Action, Self-Cocking Central Fire Revolving Pistol. Catchy, isn’t it? Obviously, Colt didn’t waste money on their marketing department in 1877. If the name is too much of a tongue twister, how about we use the name Kittredge, one of Colt’s biggest distributors, called it — the Colt Lightning.

In last week’s post in our “Beginner’s Guide to Force on Force (FoF)” series, we discussed the various training rifle options for participating in simulated engagements. In today’s continuation of this series, we’re going to talk next about handgun options for training. Just like with rifles, you have three options to choose from: guns that shoot paintballs, guns that shoot airsoft pellets, and conversion slides/dedicated guns for shooting simulation ammunition.

Springfield Armory SA-35 Review

The new Springfield Armory SA-35 is instantly recognizable as a rendering of one of the most iconic handguns in history. The P-35, otherwise known as the Browning Hi-Power was based on a design by John Browning, completed by FN in Belgium after Browning’s death, and released in 1935. When most people think of WW II-era pistols they think of the 1911 and Walther P-38, but the P-35 was already in the picture and used by both allied and axis powers during the war. The design enjoyed massive success in the decades that followed, and has been used by many countries in police and military applications.

We wait with the old men, each of them rooted in the muck, worn and furrowed. In the early light, their limbs and branches overhead are kinked and storm-shattered, like the arthritic fingers of the ancients. We watch the sky together. With the first sound of wings, and shots booming in the distance, we lean into each other and wait. The water reaches only to my waist, but this is a full-immersion baptism into one of the great rites of winter.

Hunters who report their 2021 black bear, deer, elk, or turkey hunting results by Monday, Jan. 10, will have the opportunity to win one of nine deer and elk incentive permits for fall 2022, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officials said Monday. WDFW Game Division manager Anis Aoude said the Department is offering the special permits, which will be awarded through a drawing this spring, as an incentive to encourage hunters to report their results as soon as possible. The special permits will be valid from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31, 2022.

Republicans in the Hoosier State aim to add Indiana to the growing list of states that recognize the right to carry a handgun without a permit. GOP lawmakers in both the Indiana House and Senate are writing bills for the upcoming session that are geared towards constitutional carry, reports WTTV in Indianapolis. Last session, the Indiana House passed a permitless carry bill by a comfortable 65-31 margin, but the Senate wasn't able to send a final measure to Gov. Eric Holcomb's desk.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. — John Stuart Mills
