... "The thing about BB guns, though, is too many parents don't consider them 'real' guns. They are. They shoot projectiles that can penetrate the skin and, yes, can put an eye out. More powerful air rifles are capable of causing serious injury or death."
"... Ralphie is allowed to load the BBs in the house and then go unsupervised into the backyard to shoot. Ralphie hangs his paper target on a metal sign and stands about 10 feet away, creating a situation for a ricochet that inevitably does almost cause him to shoot his eye out." ...
"Responsibility with firearms is something that must be learned, and it must be taught by a responsible, disciplined adult who won't give in to any amount of whining, eye-rolling or begging." ... |

FULL TEXT BELOW:
I told a good friend, who supports whatever President Bush chooses to do, about my signing a petition protesting our president's spying on American citizens without court review.
My friend told me he had no problems with this, and that he had written to the NSA saying they were welcome to listen to all of his phone calls. A word to the wise, to all similarly minded folks who are not worried about anything but Second Amendment rights: Be careful not to mention your firearm inventory in your phone calls, e-mails, or perhaps even in thought, word, or deed, or your guns will be on permanent record in Washington, DC.

"The volume of hate emails has dribbled off considerably so I think it is a good time to check in with Second Amendment issues and see what kind of vitriol we might dredge up from a few of the regular readers/cranks."
"Our first item is an article ... that says the Democratic Party is 'rethinking its approach to the gun debate to improve the chances of its candidates in the western states.' Apparently it has finally dawned on the national Democratic leadership that people who own firearms are not deranged sadistic rednecks but instead, ordinary American citizens who vote religiously." ...

"In a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Wichita police called the death of a 40-year-old woman Tuesday, justifiable homicide."
"Police say Elizabeth White went into a home near 27th and Bluff Tuesday, and started arguing with her parents and son. Officers got a domestic dispute call. By the time they got there, they say the woman drove away from the house ... and finally stopped in a field nearby."
"... Now police say the 14-year-old boy shot his mother with a pellet rifle, standing about 20 feet away from White. The pellet went between White's ribs and pierced her heart."
"Police say they were surprised. The pellet was shaped like a bullet with basically an arrow at the end of it." -------
