"Many of us involved in gun rights advocacy have seen the poster accompanying this column. It was the terrifying dawn of World War II, and the British, fearing German invasion, were ill-prepared to defend their nation."
"The December 1959 issue of GUNS Magazine is now online, and it tells us the story behind the poster in the feature article 'Guns in our bundles for Britain,' by William B. Edwards."
Be sure and take the poll. |

"Maurice Clemmons, the man authorities are convinced fatally shot four Lakewood, WA police officers Sunday morning in a coffee shop in the Parkland area south of Tacoma, evidently left two handguns at the scene of the crime, one of them (as predicted here yesterday) checked out to have been stolen in Seattle."
"That was one of many revelations in court documents filed yesterday against acquaintances of the now-deceased cop-killer, who are facing some major criminal troubles of their own." ... |

"The Tiahrt amendment does not affect the outcome of background checks for firearm purchases, does not affect who is permitted to own a firearm, and does not restrict law enforcement officials from accessing and effectively using all firearm data for criminal investigations. It does prevent the permanent firearm registry of law-abiding citizens who have passed such a check."
"Mayor Michael Bloomberg and ex-Gov. Thomas Kean have chosen to join forces with Sen. Charles Schumer, an anti-gunner from New York, in order to exploit the Fort Hood murders and to further their efforts to restrict lawful gun purchases and ownership." ... |

"Americans by a significant majority support the individual right to keep and bear arms —- as definitively recognized by the U.S. Supreme Court in the Heller decision last summer ... Predictably, many anti-gun advocates in the nation's capitol and elsewhere are refusing to recognize the high Court's ruling, and continue to thwart efforts by law-abiding citizens to defend themselves by possessing a firearm."
"This is one reason the pending court challenge to Chicago's gun ban ... is so important; and why so many smart state attorneys general have signed on in support of the challenge led by the National Rifle Association[sic] ..." ... -------
Submitter's Note: Actually the Second Amendment Foundation and the Illinois State Rifle Association had much more to do with McDonald than the NRA. |

"The Supreme Court has set a date of March 2, 2010, for oral arguments in McDonald v. Chicago, the case that will decide whether the revival of the Second Amendment won in 2008's Heller case will extend to overturning gun control restrictions imposed by local and state governments."
"The legal briefs from the plaintiffs, and many of their amici, are now circulating. And an interesting division in the preferred strategy for winning the case has appeared, one based on the daring legal gambit around which most of lead McDonald lawyer (and Heller lawyer) Alan Gura’s brief is built."
"To understand Gura's radicalism, we need to take a quick stroll through a century and more of legal precedent. ..." ... |

"It is with a heavy heart that we, the gun-snatching media of Tennessee, must now say goodbye to the 'guns in bars' law, passed last spring by the state General Assembly despite all the odds stacked against it—a gubernatorial veto, objections from statewide law-enforcement officials, smug derision from journalists, and reason itself. The law, enacted in July, is, alas, no more. It was fun while it lasted, wasn't it?" ... -------
Submitter's Note: Just curious, where are the dozens of cases where drunken permit-holders got into shootouts? You 'smug journalists' predicted rampant violence, but can't point to even one case in the law's 4 month run. |

"While shoppers in most states were hitting the stores on Black Friday looking for deals on toys and holiday ornaments, one state encouraged gun buyers to stock up last weekend on firearms thanks to a Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday."
"South Carolina's General Assembly approved the 'holiday' as part of its state appropriations bill. ..."
"Gun sales are reportedly up this year amid fears over economic troubles leading to increased crime, and concerns that the Democrats in Washington are eager to take away everybody's guns. The sales tax holiday may have helped stimulate the economy for gun dealers, but it's not likely to have made up for South Carolina's budget deficit, or helped make the state a much safer place to live." |

"It happened at the Salem & Sons Convenience Store on Sunset Avenue in Rocky Mount around 10:20 p.m."
"Police say employees were inside cleaning up, and saw a customer at the front door. They let the man inside, but at the same time another man came in as well and showed a black handgun in the direction of an employee. That employee immediately got his shotgun, racked the slide, and pointed it at the would-be robber."
"The robber then turned around and slowly left the store. Nothing was taken in the robbery attempt."

"Currently, Colorado State University at Fort Collins, Colorado is a campus that allows legal concealed carry by CCW permit holders. The faculty has made noises that the policy should be changed to sharply restrict weapons to 'security officials guarding high-profile visitors'. Professor Richard Eykholt, chairman of CSU's Faculty Council, supports the change stating: 'Most uses of weapons are in the heat of the moment where the person later regrets it.' I must admit, during a murderous attack it is a heated moment. He automatically assumes that any regular person carrying a gun will shoot the wrong target and make the situation worse."
"What makes this newsworthy is that the students are for keeping the current policy ..." ... |
