"New Jersey’s may-issue statute also requires that people justify their need to carry. And even though the Supreme Court said that self-defense is 'the central component' of the Second Amendment, the desire to defend yourself is insufficient justification under New Jersey law. This makes it all but impossible for law-abiding gun owners to receive a permit, which is required to lawfully carry a handgun in New Jersey."

It only seemed right to kick this off with John Moses Browning’s FN 1900, the great grandfather to all modern handguns and the first to feature a sliding action. A fitting start to a segment I have been looking forward to for a long while now. I have owned this firearm for a few years now and had hunted one down as a gift to myself as a reminder of the time I spent as a product service technician at FN America. |

Bakersfield four-location gun store Second Amendment Sports has sold to a large, Rancho Cucamonga-based chain at what has been a bumpy time for the nation's firearm retailers.
Turner's Outdoorsman, a 49-year-old company with 29 stores, said Wednesday its purchase of Second Amendment will expand its reach into new regions and allow it to "continue to offer loyal customers the superior products, exceptional value and outstanding customer service that both these brands are known for." |

Black Friday saw over 186,000 background checks conducted for the purchase of firearms, the fourth highest single-day total in history. The entire holiday weekend saw more than 417,000 checks, according to new data from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF).
Though Black Friday 2019 saw more checks conducted on that day alone, 2020’s holiday weekend exceeded the prior year’s by roughly 15,000 background checks processed through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for the purchases of firearms. Following the holiday weekend, Cyber Monday had an additional 124,000 checks. |

In a filing this week, Richards asked the court to dismiss two of the six counts against Rittenhouse. He argued that a misdemeanor count of possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18 isn’t supported by the law — an argument that the court already rejected once.
Richards also sought the dismissal of a felony count against Rittenhouse for recklessly endangering the public's safety by using a dangerous weapon. Richards said the state offered no proof to substantiate that charge, which was based on witness Richard McGinnis’ account of Rittenhouse firing his gun with McGinnis in the line of fire. |

While the slide-mounted, red-dot sight has been around for a lot longer than most shooters probably realize, it has only really begun developing into a mature technology over the last few years.
Almost every service-pistol line now offers a variant machined to accept slide-mounted optics, and even pocket 9 mms are now available with an optics cut. It’s becoming more common in law-enforcement use. Here in my home city of Indianapolis, my sources tell me that the next academy class will be given the option of being issued MOS-series Glocks, and the SWAT team already uses dots on its handguns. |

Of the 19.1 million gun background checks conducted year-to-date, 417,465 were done from Thursday to Sunday, while another 123,797 were completed on Cyber Monday, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) said in an email to Fox News. |

According to the most recent report by the Pew Research Center, Blacks are more likely to see their race and ethnicity as central to their identity. Some would argue that America never forgets to remind Black people of said race and ethnicity.
In these times, some Black people believe weapons are necessary to protect that identity. |

Laursen added gun issues to the list of priorities for the Freedom Caucus. “We want some more pro-gun issues brought forward and pushed,” he said.
The Wyoming Legislature has passed some measures, like a controversial “stand your ground” self-defense law, in recent years. Lawmakers have rejected other measures to roll back the state’s few gun restrictions, however. |

Republican lawmakers are pushing back against a bill filed on Monday that would require background checks on Floridians purchasing ammunition.
The bill, known as “Jaime’s Law,” is named in honor of 14-year-old Jaime Guttenberg, one of the 17 people tragically killed in the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre. The measure (HB 25), filed by Democrat Dan Daley, is the same bill he filed during the 2020 Legislative Session. That legislation never made it to the House floor. |

President-elect Joe Biden's top picks for the Department of Health & Human Services have both declared gun violence a public health issue in the past, much to the ire of gun rights activists and the National Rifle Association.
Vivek Murthy, a former appointee to HHS under the Obama administration, has long accused politicians of being afraid of the NRA and playing politics with gun control efforts, particularly after the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School where 26 people, including 20 children-- were killed by a gunman. |

Blacksburg Town Council is set to act on a proposed ordinance to ban the carrying of firearms inside public buildings and on streets being used for festivals, among other places.
If passed, the ordinance would make Blacksburg one of just a handful of Virginia localities that have taken such action—something that localities can now do based on a local option measure passed by the General Assembly earlier this year and that took effect in July. |
