Chicago police officers will be equipped with 1,400 stun guns by June 2016 as well as a five-step de-escalation approach for handling volatile situations, city officials announced.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Interim Chicago Police Superintendent John Escalante announced the additional reforms during a press conference Wednesday. The mayor said he believes the changes will inject more humanity into the way officers do their jobs. |

Police responded to a reported stabbing on the 300 block of Apple Street Monday night.
Police said they received a call for a domestic disturbance at around 6 p.m. Tuesday night that resulted in the stabbing. Authorities said that upon arrival on the scene they learned that a man and a woman, whom they have declined to name, were engaged in an argument that turned into a physical altercation. |

A bill authorizing students with concealed handgun licenses (CHL) to carry their firearms on public university campuses was signed into law in Texas last June and goes into effect on August 1, 2016. Licensed Texans will be able to openly carry holstered handguns many places as of Friday — but not in a handful of Tarrant County court buildings.
County commissioners unanimously voted Tuesday to “reaffirm” that weapons are not allowed in the Tim Curry Criminal Justice Center, Family Law Center, Tom Vandergriff Civil Courts Building, the historic 1895 Courthouse or the Scott D. Moore Juvenile Justice Center.
