Two of the most popular calibers among rifle cartridge handloaders are the .30-06 Springfield and .308 Winchester. I own at least one of each and have notched tags with both, using handloads I settled upon after trying different load recommendations in manuals from Hodgdon, Nosler, Hornady, Speer and Sierra. The process involved only a few different propellants, several different powder charges and bullet weights and types.

Daniel Penny’s fate is being decided in a New York City courtroom this week. He’s the former Marine who is being charged with murder after he subdued a mentally ill, drugged-up man who was threatening passengers on a subway car. However, Daniel Penny isn’t the only person who felt called upon to defend against a violent man on the New York subway. Jordan Williams did, too. The difference is that Jordan Williams was never charged for the death resulting from that self-defense. Based upon reporting, there really seems to be only one obvious difference between the two men. |

Guns are now banned from all polling and vote counting centers in Michigan. Governor Whitmer signed bills that she says will create “a safe environment for voters to make their voices heard.” The ban was enacted after the Michigan Court of Claims struck down a directive issued in 2020 by Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson banning open carry of guns at the polls, saying voter intimidation is illegal under the law.

The release of the 6.5 Creedmoor by Hornady in 2007 signaled a change in North American shooting culture. For over a century, the 0.308” diameter bullet was the go-to option for long-range shooting, as the 300 Win Mag and 308 Winchester were the preferred precision rifle cartridge for many competitors. |
