The images of lawless looters and protesters taking over entire neighborhoods in American cities in recent months apparently horrified Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as much as they horrified me. In September, he responded to the anti-police protests that followed the death of George Floyd by proposing the “combating Violence, Disorder and Looting and Law Enforcement Protection Act,” to impede violent and disorderly assemblies.

Gov. Mike DeWine’s package of gun reforms appears unlikely to pass the Statehouse this session, but lawmakers are poised to permit armed Ohioans to stand their ground in public settings and use deadly force in self-defense.

Ohio House Speaker Bob Cupp, R-Lima, said he plans to move House Bill 796 “as soon as possible,” which could be as soon as next week.

House Bill 2440, by Rep. Bill Kortz, would have designated shooting ranges, sportsman clubs, hunting facilities and business relating to the sale or production of firearms and ammunition as life-sustaining. House Bill 1747, by Rep. Matthew Dowling, would have prevented state and local governments from suspending or limiting the sale, dispensing, or transportation of firearms during a declared emergency. It also would have removed the carry prohibitions that exist with exemptions.

Due to the meteoric rise in the number of carry permits has caused a number of people to enter the handgun-purchasing market who are unlikely to be able to close a “Captains of Crush” hand exerciser. Whether an older person with arthritis, a small woman without a lot of grip strength or a person with an infirmity that has left them less than 100-percent, strength-wise, a typical duty pistol may be too much of a challenge to load and make ready, and even the trigger on a double-action revolver might be too much.

Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) announced the filing of a petition for certiorari asking the United States Supreme Court to hear the case Holloway v. Barr.

Mr. Holloway was convicted of a nonviolent misdemeanor nearly two decades ago and has been law-abiding ever since, but he is nevertheless prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm for the rest of his life. FPC argued in the petition that the Court should hear the case because the lifelong ban violates Holloway’s Second Amendment rights, and to further clarify the field of Second Amendment law.

You have the right to bear arms, and the gun dealer has the right to see your face. Justin Wood with the Rocky Mountain Gun Club in Grand Junction says, “Masks in a gun shop is kind of wishy washy. If someone brings in a loaded firearm. You don’t know if it’s loaded or not, and you have a mask on your face, they can kinda simulate some red flags.”

In his recent Letter to the Editor, "Openly carrying guns a threat to public safety," David Abraham states that people who open carry, or concealed carry in a "helter-skelter fashion ... just are looking for trouble." He also states that "if" he lived out in the country he would open carry, or carry concealed. He states that he is a city dweller and firearms in public is a "menace" and that "firearms in public should be confiscated and the owners should be jailed for a few days to drive home the point" of it. Also "police who do not enforce these laws ... equitably, resident or outsider" should also lose their jobs.

A controversial proposal to allow guns to be carried on public college and university campuses in Florida is back. The measure has failed several times in the past but the sponsor believes it’ll have a shot this year since Republicans gained seats in the Florida legislature. The usual opponents are standing their ground on the issue.

Florida is one of 16 states that doesn’t allow guns to be carried on the campuses of its public colleges and universities. Clermont Republican Representative Anthony Sabatini wants to change that.

In his most recent letters to the editor on the subject of gun regulation, Mr. Brockway seems to have the shoe on the wrong foot when it comes to factual statements, a particularly bad error for a blacksmith.

In addition to his past claims that the Democratic presidential candidates all wanted to take your guns away, which he surely knew to be false – none of them had ever said any such thing – he has now decided that Kirsten Gillibrand wants to put you in jail for not surrendering them. Oh please.

U.S. Senate candidate Raphael Warnock (D) laughed at the idea of churchgoers being armed, during one of his sermons.

“Somebody decided that they had a bright idea to pass a piece of legislation that will allow for guns and concealed weapons to be carried in churches. Have you ever been to a church meeting? That’s the last place,” said Warnock before laughing with his congregation.

To date, nearly 8 million Americans have already decided to "exercise their Second Amendment rights for the first time," chief executive Mark Smith told analysts in an earnings call.

Federal law prohibits all felons—including one who made "a materially false statement on her tax returns"— from possessing guns. A Second Amendment problem? Third Circuit: No, because the Second Amendment only protects "virtuous citizens." Dissent: Not so. The Second Amendment protects all but "dangerous" citizens. See, among other things, then-Judge Barrett's dissent in a recent case from Seventh Circuit.

I believe President Donald Trump’s supporters wanted four more years of many things: a pre-pandemic economy where 401(k) values soared and unemployment was at record lows; a society respecting the rule of law instead of rioters causing mayhem; a rational immigration policy instead of open borders; respect for the U.S. Constitution, including the Electoral College that protects us from the tyranny of a few populous states, as well as the First Amendment, which gives us free speech, and the Second Amendment that guarantees gun rights; a belief in a Supreme Court that does not function to write new laws and should never be packed with additional justices to gain political advantage;...

A report at Business Insider asserting that Donald Trump Jr. “might weigh a run to take over as the head of the National Rifle Association as a way to stay involved in politics,” was dismissed as “fake news” by the younger Trump in a tweet, but it still set off a firestorm as other online news sources picked up the initial report and ran with it.

At the same time, Trump Jr.’s tweet ignited a fury of reactions on Twitter, with more than 10,800 “likes,” 2,000 retweets and at least 127 “Quote Tweets.” Many of the replies to Trump’s initial denial were snarky at best.

What [Alaimo] did there is not a misquote,” Heller continued. “It is attributing to me something I never said. it is an outright fabrication…”

So, good luck proving it? He said she said?
Hardly. Heller let the reporter know at the outset he was recording their conversation and he has now posted it for all to hear for themselves.

All eyes are on Georgia and the runoff elections for the final two U.S. Senate seats. The results will impact the firearm industry and the ability of Americans to purchase and possess firearms of their choosing.

Americans have made clear how they feel about their Second Amendment rights, with record firearm purchases topping 19 million. The gun-owning community is the most diverse ever, with women and minorities accounting for large portions of new sales.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Rifles, muskets, long-bows and hand-grenades are inherently democratic weapons. A complex weapon makes the strong stronger, while a simple weapon — so long as there is no answer to it — gives claws to the weak. — George Orwell
