"As reported on Brietbart.com, 'the Miami Police Department announced recently that it plans to stage random shows of force at hotels, banks and other public places to keep terrorists guessing and remind people to be vigilant. Deputy Police Chief Frank Fernandez said officers might, for example, surround a bank building, check the IDs of everyone going in and out and hand out leaflets about terror threats.'"
"Only a government agent or communist could have come up with such a wasteful, anti-constitutional, anti-American, inefficient plan as the one outlined above. The problems with this plan come so rapidly to the mind that the tongue cannot keep up. Based on the statements of the Miami Police Department, it is clear that the people of Miami are facing a more imminent threat than Al Qaida." ... |

"After reading Jason Ratliff's commentary on gun ownership, I have a question for him. Can I own a nuclear weapon? It seems like a silly question, I grant you. I mean the idea of a private citizen, especially one so wildly unstable as myself, owning a nuclear weapon is unnerving to say the least. But considering the stated purpose of the second amendment it would follow that I be allowed to own a nuclear weapon or weapons grade anthrax or a tomahawk missile. In reading Mr. Ratliff's thoughts on the second amendment and gun control, he talks about home invasion and the Warsaw ghetto uprising and liberals- dirty, dirty liberals; but while he skirts the issue of the second amendment, he never dives right in." ... -------

"SANFORD LEVINSON, a distinguished constitutional law professor, wrote in the Yale Law Journal that the Second Amendment suffers from a lack of serious scholarship. Few law students envision the Second Amendment as an area of lucrative practice upon graduation. His article, 'The Embarrassing Second Amendment,' sent a shock wave through academia by suggesting that the amendment might actually mean what it says."
"... Gun-control advocates point to the militia clause of the Second Amendment, arguing that it warrants a collective, rather than an individual, right to keep and bear arms. However, history--buttressed by the Founders' clear understanding--dictates that the amendment guarantees this right to individual Americans." ... |

"Once a hot-button political issue, gun control has become nothing more than a second tier topic on the national scene."
"In the last presidential election the only serious press coverage devoted to guns revolved around John Kerry's poorly devised goose hunting trip in Ohio designed to make him look like a supporter of 2nd Amendment rights."
"There was also a brief spurt of coverage in September 2004 when the Clinton assault weapons ban was allowed to sunset. Just a few short years ago, a story about an assault weapons ban would have had long-term traction during a presidential election season. Instead the ban expired with a whimper; and less than a year later the story is largely ignored." ... |

Sparks police have identified the two men involved in a fatal shooting Thursday at a vacant house on Pyramid Way.
Mark Richardson, 28, a Reno-Sparks area resident, was killed by Dale Weir, 76, of Reno, police said.
Weir was checking on his vacant property about 6 p.m. Thursday, found the back door kicked open and Richardson inside, police said.
Weir shot Richardson with a 9 mm handgun. Richardson staggered out the back door and died in the alley, police said.
Weir had a permit for the pistol, Cmdr. Steve Asher said. The district attorney's staff will determine whether charges are warranted, he said. |

Tempe High School was locked down for several hours Tuesday after police received a 911 call from someone saying a student had a gun in his waistband.
Sgt. Dan Masters says six officers went to the school about 11 a.m. Students were locked into their classrooms and a search started.
Officers and school officials went into every room, searching every student and backpack. That's when a male who's a junior at the school handed over a plastic toy pistol.
Masters says nothing else was found and the school reopened at 1:30 p.m. .
The unidentified teen could face criminal charges for disrupting classes. Masters says he likely faces discipline or expulsion under the district's zero tolerance policy for weapons possession. |

A family in a quiet Lake County suburban neighborhood is still in shock over a stray bullet that hit their home.
The Almas family on Lanark Rd. was making dinner when they hear a strange noise. When they went to investigate, they found a bullet in their downstairs bedroom.
It punctured a wall, ricocheted off a dresser, and finally landed in the wall next to the couple's bed.
The bullet was from a Lake County SWAT member's rifle that accidentally misfired at a practice range about a mile away.
This happened back in May, but the family has still not been compensated.
They want a new bedroom set, but the insurance company for the sheriff's department says that's unreasonable. |
