... "'What triggered the decision for the Columbus smuggling crew to send at least some of their straw purchasers all the way to the small Chaparral store instead of one of the largest gun stores in the state right up the road?' the article asked."

"Particularly if the Reese family had truly been involved in doing what the government accused them of doing …?" ...

Again they were after material items that could be replaced and again our biggest fear is that somebody would have gotten hurt, injured and possibly even died.'" ...

Printing guns is far from only way to bust a 'government monopoly on force'

"Yesterday, we took our latest look at efforts to 'print' guns on consumer grade equipment, using CAD (computer-aided design, or computer-aided drafting) files made freely available on the internet. These efforts, when developed far enough, will render 'gun-control' irrelevant. What does it matter, after all, that one cannot buy a prohibited item, if he can simply make it for himself on a 3-D printer, instead?" ...

"Mix in equal doses of a man with a history of violent behavior, a volatile relationship with a young woman who bore his child, a heavy night of drinking, and history of pill use and partying, then combine the two people in a highly publicized murder-suicide because he was a professional football player and what do you get?"

"The introduction of 3-D technology into any conversation usually evokes memories of movie theaters with goofy multicolor glasses, but a company named Defense Distributed is trying to change that. They are taking Second Amendment rights to a new extreme by using 3-D printing to make guns available to all Americans. Defense Distributed hopes to make a 'wikiweapon,' a blueprint for a 3-D printed gun, to be
released as free, open-source software." ...

"Earlier this week, fellow Daily Athenaeum columnist David Perry wrote about the gun control debate in the United States."

"With the suicide-murder involving Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher looming, Mr. Perry based much of his argument on how many suicides occur in America as a result of easy access to guns. While the number of suicides in this country is tragic and Jovan Belcher’s actions were unconscionable, this is a case of blaming a symptom and not the disease."

"He’s right; gun-related deaths are a problem in this country. But the response should not be to limit the gun ownership. Let us not confuse correlation with causation. The number of deaths by gun in this country are not a result of lax gun regulations." ...

Many of these new hunters are taking up the activity for ethical and environmental reasons." ...

"Jones bought his first gun his senior year at the University of Virginia, and, as a rookie with the Arizona Cardinals a dozen years ago, he learned quickly that guns were an ingrained part of the NFL culture."

"Last year, RF mused over the Leupold DeltaPoint mounted atop a S&W 686 and we promised then that we’d contact Leupold about getting one. Sure enough, now we (I) have one in our grubby little hands. Astute readers may have noticed that the Next Intent Tactical mount I reviewed was wearing the DeltaPoint as the secondary reflex optic. How high-speed-low-drag is that? Anyway, now that I’ve had it for a month or so, it’s had a full workout on my AR using the NITactical mount and on my 10/22 as its primary optic. In short, I’m wildly impressed . . ." ...

"On national television, you can talk about the sordid details of your sex life, the depth of your religious piety or your belief that an organization that no longer exists, Acorn, stole the 2012 presidential election — a fantasy held by half of Republicans. You can call climate change a hoax, you can say the moon landing never happened, you can even praise Alex Rodriguez, though you shouldn’t."

"But you cannot talk about the 300 million or more guns circulating in private hands in the United States. The most armed society in the world, ranked first among 179 nations in the rate of gun ownership, had 9,146 gun homicides in 2009. The same year, Canada had 173. But don’t bring that up." ...

"The controversy? Costas had the audacity to mention that the murder and suicide were committed with a gun." ...

"I’m not sure it was the right forum for Costas to make his point."

"But I do think it’s a conversation the country needs to have."

"No one is going to argue the Second Amendment. I believe people have the right to own a gun. I’m not looking to take that away."

"Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend, committed suicide and orphaned his daughter. If the Kansas City linebacker had not put a gun in his hand during those moments when he was seized by rage and despair, the 3-month-old baby girl would have had a chance to grow up with her mother and father." ...

Submitter's Note: Really? A professional athlete wouldn't have been able to beat the girl's mother to death? Or douse her in gasoline and set her on fire? Or stab her with a knife, or strangle her or kill her in any one of the myriad of ways which don't require a gun?

"It wasn’t that long ago, in the aftermath of Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor’s tragic death in 2007, that I was the toast of right-wing America. ... "While some, like CNN founder Ted Turner, see an increase in military suicides as 'good' because, as he told Piers Morgan (naturally), that will somehow pave the way for a more enlightened United Nations world policeman, people who are actually sane can debate on the effects of removing firearms from people committed to killing themselves, and the danger for abuse if government is allowed to essentially, by documenting such matters in its records, compile a list of active duty firearms owners, and in apparent contravention of funding proscriptions against such a database established by current law.
