Sterling Heights police are seeking tips to find the person who attempted to grab a woman last weekend.

The victim was walking her dog at the Maple Grove Apartments near 15 Mile and Van Dyke at about 11 p.m. Sunday when she “saw an African-American male in his 30s exit a black panel work van and start to follow,” investigators said in a statement.

The woman became concerned but lost sight of the man and kept walking, according to the release. Later, the suspect emerged from behind a trash enclosure, walked nearby and tried to grab the back of her jacket, authorities reported.

His hand slipped, and the woman pulled out a gun and “placed the gun into the suspect’s stomach,” police said.

You're disarmed in the name of Public Safety. That is why elite white males get to have guns for self-defense and you don’t. The political corruption is obvious, and the excuses are as thin as those coming from Harvey Weinstein and Matt Lauer.

The U.S. House approved a measure Wednesday that would require every state to recognize another state's concealed weapons permit.

Ian Mena-Wieland sells guns at Axmen Firearms, and he has a concealed weapon permit but was asked to take his weapon off as he traveled just four months ago.

“I went to the state of Washington, and on a Montana permit I can carry in Montana, Idaho, but I do have to take it off on the border of Washington,” said Mena-Wieland.

Firearm sellers, gun shops and weapons and accessories manufacturers across the Treasure Valley are in their peak season, with many owners saying the bulk of their business comes with the onset of hunting season and Christmas until about February.

A third record-breaking year for national gun sales on Black Friday was also reflected in the Treasure Valley. Nationally, the FBI received more than 200,000 requests tied to firearm purchases that day alone.

Ten years ago, having a security system and carrying guns at church was almost unthinkable, said Pastor Dan Swadley.

Now First Baptist Church Brookline not only has an armed security detail but is also actively preparing for a worst-case scenario — a shooting.

Swadley told the News-Leader that a deadly church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, which left at least 26 dead in November, has prompted him to re-evaluate security for his own congregation.

Williams Police Department (WPD) is midway through a 30-day pilot program testing gun mounted video cameras and the department, so far, is impressed.

“This product that we are piloting is cutting edge and could really increase the public awareness, public confidence,” said Williams Police Department lieutenant Daryl Hixon.

Hixson said the camera could portray a better visual than body cameras or at the very least show a more complete picture of an incident.

Hixson said the cameras could be used in addition to body cameras. All officers at WPD currently wear body cameras.

The cameras are distributed by Viridian Weapon Technologies, which is devoted to applying cutting-edge technology for self-defense products.

Concealed carry reciprocity would make America safer

The right to self-defense is fundamental to a free people. So says the Second Amendment, and Americans hearing it loud and clear are the proud owners of guns enough to arm nearly every man, woman and child. When ne’er-do-wells turn their weapons against the innocent, it’s responsibly armed citizens who must provide defense in the absence of the police. That’s why rules that force concealed carry permit holders to leave their firearms at home when they travel are foolish rules. Congress must finish the job of empowering the good and responsible man and woman with a gun.

PROGUN BILL #1: SB-274 Church Property, by Sen. Kelli Stargel (R-Lakeland) eliminates the unconstitutional restrictions that prevent churches, synagogues and other religious institutions from allowing private security or concealed firearms license holders to carry firearms on church property if church property is ever used for day care or any type of schooling. KILLED by a vote of 4-6

Republican Senators Rene Garcia (R-Hialeah) and Anitere Flores (R-Miami) both who falsely claim to be Second Amendment supporters joined Democrats on the Committee to kill the bill.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday allowing concealed carry gun permits to be valid in any state that issues permits.

There are 10 states that do not recognize out-of-state concealed carry permits. Most of those states have a higher level of requirements for the issue of permits. Permit holders in California, for example, must demonstrate a specific need for a concealed carry permit for local law enforcement officials.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act cleared the House with a 231-198 vote, including a vote in favor cast by Montana’s lone congressman, Rep. Greg Gianforte, who is also one of the bill’s 213 co-sponsors.

The fatal shooting of a teen killed after posting popular shoes for sale on Instagram was self-defense, according to police.

On Nov. 27, 18-year-old Jaadyn Parks was shot and killed about a mile from his Hampton home after meeting up to sell a pair of Jordan 1s that he posted on Instagram. The shooter and his girlfriend fled the scene but were one of the many people who called 911 to report the shooting.

The Fourth Circuit justified its position by quoting Supreme Court language referring to felon-in-possession bans as “presumptively constitutional.” However, that is not how the Fourth Circuit has treated this law. A restriction that is not capable of being defeated is not “presumptively lawful,” it is absolutely and inviolably lawful, and thus we urged the Supreme Court to step in and rein in this abuse by the lower court. The Supreme Court declined.

It passes the "Wife Test" and every woman who sees it wants it. It’s the Sig Sauer P238 with an engraved rose gold slide and accents in .380 ACP caliber. I guess that makes it a girl’s gun but it’s only one of the 20 or so models of the 238 offered by Sig with one sure to appeal to almost any consumer. What’s the "Wife Test?" When I receive a handgun touted as suitable for women’s self defense I hand it to my wife and ask her to check it out. If she can’t run the slide, lock it to the rear, manipulate the controls and manage the trigger it’s probably not suitable. I have several other test subjects as well, like the gals in the office and ProShop at Gunsite. If the women say it’s good to go I take their word for it.

With a bill to expand concealed carry protections across state lines set for a House floor vote on Wednesday, gun control advocates are opening their coffers in a bid to derail the measure.

The proposal, H.R. 38, has a block of Republican support and is on the House calendar for this week, prompting those against it to launch an offensive.

Both Everytown and Giffords have launched six-figure ad buys targeting members of Congress, in each case urging them to oppose concealed carry reciprocity. The groups have also taken to social media with the #StopCCR hashtag to publicize their efforts, offering suggested opposition statements to give to lawmakers.

Guns in America

Each new mass shooting in the U.S. reignites debate over the country’s treatment of gun rights as virtually sacrosanct. Americans own more guns than anybody else on earth, even adjusted for population. (Yemenis are second.) Firearms are involved in the deaths of more than 33,000 people in the U.S. annually, about two-thirds of which are suicides. Guns are also integral to the story of the nation’s founding. The National Rifle Association, the dominant pro-gun group, has been on a decades-long winning streak, convincing courts and lawmakers to loosen gun restrictions and to prevent the passage of new ones.

Hampshire College, a private liberal arts college in Amherst, Massachusetts, cancelled the speaking engagement of a gun rights activist on its campus mere hours before it began, claiming that the speech merited “extra considerations and precautions.”

Antonia Okafor, a Second Amendment activist who recently founded a women’s campus carry advocacy group, was slated to speak on Hampshire’s campus last night, with the college having approved of the event earlier this month. Okafor had been invited to the campus by Hampshire student Rahim Hirani.

In a Facebook post, Massie says the “Fix-NICS” bill would allow “agencies, not just courts, to adjudicate your second amendment rights.”

Massie, the Chairman of the Second Amendment Caucus, says the bill will advance former President Obama’s gun control agenda, adding that the Senate’s bill will send $625 million over five years to states to expand the national background check database. Massie says the House bill will also commission a study on bump stocks.

Ed.: The only way to fix NICS is to repeal it.

All I could do was shake my head at the Nov. 17 Public Pulse letter “Handcuffed by the NRA.”

The letter writer states that “blaming mentally ill people” for shootings “is an empty, meaningless gesture.” When someone shoots up a crowd, drives a car through a crowd or blows up a bomb in a crowd, who should be blamed?

The House approved a bill on Wednesday that would ease legal restrictions for carrying concealed firearms across state lines – a move pushed by the National Rifle Association that comes just weeks after mass shootings in Las Vegas and Texas.

On a mostly party-line vote, the measure easily passed, 231-198, although 14 Republicans voted no. Six Democrats voted for the so-called reciprocity measure, which would allow a gun owner with the proper permit in any state to carry a concealed firearm to another state where it is also legal.

The bill now goes to the Senate, where it is likely to encounter a much tougher battle.

Tuesday, the ATF and Department of Justice announced they're launching a review of the bump stocks and whether they're illegal under the National Firearms Act. Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock used this type of device which can be attached to semi-automatics to pull a trigger faster.

"I believe we must pass this legislation so the law is clear: bump stocks do not belong in our country,” said Nevada Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto.
