Last week, the Sixth Circuit failed to achieve the majority necessary to correct the ATF’s shifting classifications of bump stocks as “machine guns.” NRA-ILA’s amicus brief opposed the ATF’s legal authority to arbitrarily criminalize legal firearms. Because the judges split 8-8, the flawed bump stock rule is being reinstated.

This is the season of holiday festivities, family gatherings, and retrospectives. We don’t operate on seasons, though. Gun owners didn’t wait for a holiday to air their grievances; they took every opportunity to let their legislators and the ATF know where they stood on infringement. Americans exercised their 2nd Amendment rights every day. This isn’t hyperbole – we leave that to the experts – but statements based on data and reality.

A sad fact about gun control politics is that if you are cynical enough you can darn near see the future. Consider this NRA-ILA item from November 8, titled, “NBC News Tattletale Alerts Secret Service to “Let’s go Brandon” AR-15 Receiver.” The piece concerned an NBC News reporter who contacted the U.S. Secret Service over the sale of an AR-15 lower receiver emblazoned with the popular “Let’s go Brandon” political slogan.

Record-breaking gun sales during the pandemic combined with multiple Texas law changes regarding firearms have led to some confusion about what’s legal and what isn’t in terms of firearms. According to FBI statistics, there have been more firearm background checks in 2020 and 2021 than any other year in history. So far this year, there have been nearly 1.8 million background checks initiated for firearm sales in Texas. Only Illinois and Kentucky have more. |

Anti-gun New Jersey politicians have never been bashful about slapping restrictions on Second Amendment rights in the Garden State. However, this latest, brazen campaign inches the state even closer to an outright ban on the Second Amendment. In a state that basically doesn’t observe right-to-carry at all, the state Senate is now poised to strip citizens of their constitutional rights in their own homes! |

In November 2012, lifelong Evanston resident and 5th Ward City Council candidate Carolyn Murray was planning the city’s first gun buyback program in recent history when her 19-year-old son, Justin, was fatally shot outside of his grandmother’s Evanston home. The tragedy strengthened Murray’s resolve to move forward with the community effort to get guns off the street, and the gun buyback was held less than three weeks after her son’s death. |

A report from the King County Prosecutor’s Office late last month showing the uptick in gun-related violence in the county that encompasses far-left Seattle only further amplifies the assertion from Evergreen State gun rights activists that gun control laws adopted by citizen initiative, and by the Seattle City Council over the past six years have had the exact opposite effect they were supposed to have. |

The solid copper hollow point bullet (SCHP) can be used in both rifle and pistol ammunition. All-copper pistol bullets have the familiar large hollow opening at the end, but rifle versions have a wider range of options. The different types of rifle ammo are for different sized game, and the hollow point in copper can expand in a variety of useful ways, depending on the intended target. A deer-hunting ammo, for example, will be much different than a varmint ammo. |

One of the U.S. military's most enduring soldiers has been the bolt-action M1903 Springfield in .30-06, a rifle that saw front line use in both world wars and continues to serve today. First prototyped in 1900, the Mauser-style bolt-action Springfield service rifle was intended to replace the only recently adopted .30-40 caliber Krag-Jorgensen series of rifles, which were found to have been less than perfect in service when fighting the Spanish in Cuba in 1898.
