It was the late 1940s and very few homes had television sets. If you wanted to see TV, you had to go downtown and look in the window of the department store. However, kids who lived in the right neighborhood could go to the local fire station in the evening and watch TV along with the firemen. In those days, firemen only answered fire calls so they spent a lot of time simply on duty at the fire station. In the evening it was not unusual to have 15–20 kids spread out on the floor watching television.

Editor's Note: This egregious misleading headline is counteractive to the efforts of a local business owner attempting to lawfully combat the growing threat of crime in one of the nation's most prolific democratically run cities.
The owner of a Philadelphia gas station chain hired private security guards with semi-automatic weapons to guard his properties after several cases of burglary, carjackings and vandalism — a move that has divided the residents. Neil Patel, who operates 22 gas stations around Philadelphia, told local media that he was sick of the crimes being committed in the city and decided to hire security personnel who can now be seen around his gas station in Kevlar vests and semi-automatic guns. |

Everyone agrees that it is important to stop killing sprees from happening in schools or gay bars, or supermarkets. The National Instant Check System (NICS) was supposed to stop such killers when it was implemented in 1998. Unfortunately, we are no closer to a peaceful society. After nearly thirty years, NICS is still not working as promised, despite “preventing” over 3.5 million firearms gun transactions since its inception. Few of the blocked sales turn out to be criminals; most rejections are false due to errors in the FBI data.

Handgun hunting is a test for even the most experienced hunter, but as it turns out, a gun like the crazy-long, X-Frame S&W 460 XVR revolver tips the scales in the hunter’s favor. We were excited to pull the trigger on the gun and tag along on a recent African Safari with Smith & Wesson’s “highest velocity production revolver” in the world.

When first comparing the 5.7mm vs. 9mm, one might think they're very different.
The 9mm has a heavier bullet, while the 5.7 is more aerodynamic. The 9x19mm looks like a traditional semi-auto handgun round, and the 5.7 appears to be a miniature rifle cartridge. |
