"If you were a member of Congress, would you vote 'yes' on a 3,000 page bill that you never had a chance to read? Most reasonable people wouldn't. Most reasonable people would want to read and study legislation before deciding how to vote; especially legislation as monumental as the intelligence reorganization legislation or the so-called 9/11 bill."

"And monumental it is. The legislation would greatly affect various intelligence and military agencies and procedures; financial systems; international relations; not to mention civil liberties." ...

"Yet this monumental legislation will be voted on by members of Congress without those members having had time to read, let alone study, the bill." ...

"Ben Gelt, now 20, was 18 on April 20, 1999, when two teenaged malcontents, Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17, shot and killed 12 fellow students and a teacher and wounded more than 30 others before shooting themselves."

"Shortly thereafter, Gelt gained notoriety by organizing 94 students from 31 Colorado schools to go to Washington, where they lobbied Congress to pass more gun legislation despite the Second Amendment." ...

"Gelt went on to become a pop icon, writing articles for The Denver Post about gun control and putting off college for a year to fight for restrictions on firearms." ...

"Gelt was originally arrested for opium distribution, a felony, but the charges were later reduced in court."

"A look at the history of Cuba should make us run screaming in terror from anything smacking of socialism. Brain surgeon Miguel Faria has laid it all out for those who will check out his book Cuba in Revolution."

"Faria is a refugee from Fidel Castro's socialist 'paradise.' He still has family trapped inside that socialist island prison -- a prison that has imposed draconian gun controls throughout the island. Any prison will attempt to achieve total control of guns and restrict their possession to just the guards. Well, it turns out that the most effective tool for gun control in Cuba is the poverty spawned by socialism. Nobody can afford a gun."

"Communist Cuba offers an interesting parallel to Nazi Germany. Both Hitler's Germany and Castro's Cuba were preceded by regimes that imposed gun control to keep guns out of the wrong hands. In both cases, gun control failed to keep the bad guys from getting all the guns they wanted and using them to consolidate their grip on power following seizure of the reins of government."

"Thanks to strict criminal laws, working conditions in Great Britain are the safest in the Western world—that is, if your profession is burglary. On the other hand, if you’re a law-abiding citizen quietly staying at home, you’re at much greater risk in the nearly gun-free United Kingdom, than in the gun-happy United States of America." ...

"One reason that British burglars are so much bolder than their American cousins is that only about 4% of British homes legally possess a gun, whereas about half of American homes do. British police administrators require guns at home to be stored unloaded in a safe, and that ammunition be in a separate safe. No American jurisdiction has such extreme 'safe storage' requirements. As a result, an American burglar who breaks into an occupied home faces a significant risk of getting shot."

"An attorney for the widow of a middle school teacher gunned down by a student argued before an appellate court Tuesday that the gun distributor was negligent in selling the cheap weapon and should be held liable."

"Attorney Edna Caruso said federal officials told Valor Corp. for years that its .25-caliber Raven handgun was frequently used in crimes and that the company had a legal responsibility to make the weapons safer." ...

"Jurors in the November 2002 trial in the case largely spared Valor Corp. from blame. Grunow's attorneys asked for a $75 million judgment against the company, but jurors ordered the company to pay only $1.2 million to Pam Grunow and her two young children. A judge then threw out that verdict, and Pam Grunow appealed to the 4th District Court of Appeal."

"A Sugarloaf Township man's 7-year battle to regain his right to carry a concealed weapon suffered a major setback Monday when the state's Commonwealth Court reversed a ruling that granted him the permit."

"The decision is the latest in a long, complex legal battle Michael S. Pecora has waged with the Pennsylvania State Police and the Luzerne County Sheriff's Office."

"Pecora had held a concealed weapons permit for about 35 years, but the sheriff's office denied him renewal in 1996 after a state police records check showed Pecora pleaded no contest in 1978 to federal income tax evasion."

"The problem: In 1996 the state's Uniform Firearms Act was amended to prohibit persons convicted of crimes punishable by more than one year from owning a firearm. At the time of Pecora's plea, the sentence for tax evasion fit that criteria."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
I do believe that where there is a choice only between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence. Thus when my eldest son asked me what he should have done had he been present when I was almost fatally assaulted in 1908 [by an Indian extremist opposed to Gandhi's agreement with Smuts], whether he should have run away and seen me killed or whether he should have used his physical force which he could and wanted to use, and defend me, I told him it was his duty to defend me even by using violence. Hence it was that I took part in the Boer War, the so-called Zulu Rebellion and [World War I]. Hence also do I advocate training in arms for those who believe in the method of violence. I would rather have India resort to arms in order to defend her honor than that she should in a cowardly manner become or remain a helpless witness to her own dishonor. — Mohandas K. Gandhi, Young India, August 11, 1920 from Fischer, Louis ed.,The Essential Gandhi, 1962
