If you thought endless COVID-19 orders and lockdowns were enough to satisfy the United Kingdom government’s totalitarian impulse, think again. Even as millions of Brits are losing their livelihoods, the busybodies in Her Majesty’s Government are hard at work looking for new ways to diminish their rights through gun control. With the UK already home to some of the most draconian gun control in the world, the so-called “Conservative” government has now set its sights on further restricting antique firearms and air guns. |

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, President-elect Joe Biden’s pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, said AR-15s are akin to military-grade weapons and not useful for self defense in a 2019 court filing. The AG’s statements were included in a court case that challenged California’s gun ban titled Rupp v. Becerra, in which multiple state residents sued government officials to overturn the prohibition of certain semi-automatic firearms.

The FBI NICS office conducted 3,626,335 total background checks last month. November is always a busy month with elections, Black Friday, and holiday deals to be had. Even the year-to-date streak of record numbers and reported inventory shortages around the country could not hamper the demand for background checks. Last month beat November 2019 by more than a million checks. |

There is new evidence of problems with the implementation of the “assault weapons” ban imposed by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on May 1st. Readers will recall that under the Liberal Government’s scheme, over 1,500 firearms and devices listed in a government regulation immediately became a “prohibited” firearm or “prohibited device,” as did “any variants or modified versions.”

In late November, the Trump administration took its firmest action yet to counteract ongoing banking discrimination against businesses that serve America’s gun owners. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, a significant banking regulator, issued a proposed rule to prohibit politically-motivated service denials and to ensure large, nationwide banks would have to make offered products available to all law-abiding customers without ideological bias. |

In several communities, when reliable intelligence warned of planned property destruction and looting in suburban business districts, armed citizens came to the aid of local businesses. Granted, not everyone was happy to see this, but as things turned out, this show of force was a deterrent to violence. In places such as Kirkland, Snohomish and the Tri-City area of Washington, and in Coeur d’Alene in neighboring Idaho, what didn’t happen made all the difference.

Sweat slowly slithered down my back as I squinted in the sun. Heat waves shimmered in the distant tallgrass prairie. My breaths came deep and controlled as I steeled myself for what was about to happen. A crowd had gathered behind me and I forced their talk from my mind. My guns were placed strategically and within easy grasp. I heard gunfire in the near distance and knew my time had come. |

“Obnoxious,” I can’t help but think to myself. I can feel the concussion reverberating through the shooting range, even from several benches down. The shooter is doing nothing wrong, really, he’s just banging away with a muzzle brake on his rifle. I have a similar gut reaction as when someone fires up an old 2-stroke outboard on a quiet fishing hole (once you’ve become accustomed to a 4-stroke). I’m not passing judgement on the muzzle brake shooter (I have used brakes plenty) but I still mutter to myself just about every time I encounter another shooter with a brake at the range.

The best shooting performance among the 13-14-year-olds came from Alex Borke, who missed four targets en route to a fourth-place finish.

For the 11th consecutive month, firearm-related background checks have surged, and according to the U.S. Concealed Carry Association, “USCCA instructors and range partners are more active than ever, training twice as many students from January to August than the organization did in all of 2019.”
The monthly raw National Instant Check System data from the FBI, November saw 3,626,335 background checks initiated. They do not all involve actual firearms transactions, however. |

Not to be confused with the almost double-diameter pellets in the #4 buck, the #4 lead shot is a diverse ammunition used in a variety of applications – but is most commonly marketed for turkey hunting. Varmint control, target shooting, home defense and hunting birds of all shapes and sizes can easily be handled effectively with #4 lead shot. Its superior ballistics and tendency to penetrate deeper leads to easier kills, making it preferred over steel when hunting. |

The Dublin, California, City Council passed an ordinance last week requiring all guns inside homes to either be locked in a storage device or disabled with a trigger lock. The Pleasanton Weekly reports that, while California already has gun storage requirements in homes where children are present, the Dublin ordinance will apply whether there are children in the home or not.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight. And it is in such twilight that we all must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness. — Justice William O. Douglas, US Supreme Court (1939-75) |
