Muslim women across Canada and the U.S. are flocking to classes for self defense amid a rise in anti-Muslim rhetoric.
The entrepreneurs behind The Demureist and Amirah Couture Inc., companies for modest fashion, recently joined forces to offer self-defense classes specifically for Muslim women in New York City because of “numerous and unfortunate attacks both verbally and physical on Muslim women.” |

After the San Bernardino shooting and the intense debate over guns that has followed, some conservative commentators are pushing back on the evidence that more guns mean more gun deaths, citing their own data and charts. But they're making a grave statistical mistake. |

Three people -- two 17-year-old boys and an 18-year-old woman -- were charged Monday in connection with a robbery that resulted in the shooting death of a Reading High School student.
Berks County District Attorney John Adams, announcing that the shooting was justified, said the person who opened fire feared for his life while being robbed.
"The death of Daquill Fuller, caused by the victim shooting him, was justifiable homicide and no charges will be filed against the victim," Adams said.
The shooting took place last Wednesday night. |

You probably own a stake in a gun manufacturer, whether you know it or not.
Just take a look at your 401(k) plan. If you're in one managed by Vanguard, BlackRock, Fidelity or just about any other mutual fund group, you're most likely the owner of shares in the three primary publicly traded gun makers: Smith & Wesson; Sturm, Ruger & Company; and the Olin Corporation. |

Definitive Arms is part of the AK Holy Trinity in the United States. Alongside Krebs Custom Guns and Rifle Dynamics, they’re considered the top dogs in American Kalashnikov manufacturing and customization. After October’s Big 3 East event, I was offered the tremendous opportunity to assemble my own AK in a small, hands-on build class. I was also able to get a glimpse of the tremendous amount of time, care, and knowledge that goes into each Definitive Arms gun. |

Self-righteousness is liberating. The same people who are most exercised about guns in America, and want to ban and even confiscate entire categories of firearms, know little about them and evidently feel no compunction to learn.
But please don’t confuse the anti-gun campaigners with facts. Their ignorance is invincible, and necessary to their crusade. |

To hear Gov. Jerry Brown of California condemn Arizona and Nevada for lax gun laws that provide “a gigantic back door through which any terrorist can walk,” you might forget that he personally kept open the back door that had long made the weapons such as were used in the San Bernardino killings legal and readily available in his state |

Reaction to the President's speech is driving some to do something they never done before: buy a gun. Others are buying even more guns. Ever since Black Friday the owner of this Muskegon area gun store says he's never been busier. The first customer of the day walked in right after the store opened. The phone has been ringing all day. The rush of customers has become something Gary Foster has come to expect. "Everybody is doing the same thing after every mass shooting, assault weapons, ammunition, magazines," he says. "It is everything, after Sandy Hook we did not have a handgun in the building." The San Bernardino shooting is resulting in new gun owners. |

Several Republican presidential candidates cite Ted Kennedy as a reason why they oppose President Obama’s proposal to block the sale of guns to known or suspected terrorists on the no-fly list. Kennedy, after all, was mistakenly placed on the government’s no-fly list, they say. But the Transportation Security Administration calls that a “myth.” |

When I was in middle and high school, there were spirited public debates about whether the proliferation of grisly movies, gore-glorifying song lyrics and shoot-'em-up video games might desensitize my peers and me to violence.
While I'm reluctant to pin any of this on pop culture, it's true that my generation appears somewhat inured to violence — at least violence involving firearms. |

Poor border officials. It is hard enough for them to find Cuban cigars in luggage, now they will have to ask, “Do you have anything to declare, you know, like a religion?” |
