A father eating at a Popeye’s restaurant -- and carrying his licensed handgun -- shot a would-be robber dead Wednesday after the thief threatened the man's family at gunpoint and demanded the dad's belongings.
The San Antonio Police Department said Ander Herrera, 19, walked into the restaurant on South Flores Street just after 9 p.m. Wednesday and demanded Carlos Molina hand over his cash.
Molina then whipped out his gun and shot Herrera several times, killing him.
It wasn't clear if any charges would be filed in connection with the incident, but officers said they believe Molina fired at Herrera in defense of a third person, FOX29 reported.
Submitters note: This is in Texas. There won't be any charges filed. |

An 84-year-old Pennsylvania man successfully fought off a home invasion, fatally shooting one intruder after two men broke into his house in the middle of the night.
Ellwood City police said Don Lutz was awakened by a noise around 1:15 a.m. Friday. He grabbed a handgun, which he told KDKA he keeps under his pillow while he sleeps, and went out to investigate.
He was met by two men breaking into his home.
“I was in bed sleeping, they woke me up,” Lutz told KDKA. “Woken up to them busting in on my front door, and I went out in the hallway in the dark, and I met this one guy, and he went to grab me and that’s when I shot him.” |

A local air rifle shooter just two years into her career has set her sights on a new target, the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.
Taylor Farmer, 19, shot her first gun in 2012, and only shot her first air rifle at Camp Perry in 2015, but it did not take long for her and top shooters in the country to recognize her talents and in January she will move to Colorado Springs, CO, to begin training with other American Olympic athletes.
Farmer has been a steady, natural shooter, putting up consistent scores and garnering a lot of attention in the country for her calm, dead-eye air rifle shooting.
"In my first year in competition, I finished second at nationals, and I was named in the Presidential 100 as one of the top shooters in the country. |

I am tired of being treated like a second-class citizen. Anti-gun Democrat politicians claim licensed concealed carry holders are dangerous. These bigoted politicians even say recognizing concealed carry permits will give guns to criminals. The Democrat elites are wrong about us.
Sure, I understand why these political and social elitists want ordinary people like us disarmed..particularly when we consider how many of these elitists stand accused of sexual assault. Their guilty consciences are no reason to disarm the rest of us. |

What was once an upbeat mood in the gun industry, fostered by a multi-year rally in weapon sales, has now become a major hangover. The most obvious indicator of that change: Privately-held Remington Outdoor is now at risk of declaring bankruptcy after a collapse in sales and profits.
The rifle and shotgun manufacturer's third-quarter sales plunged 41% as demand for firearms dried up. That led Remington to report adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization that were 78% lower year over year.
And with its credit rating in the trash bin, the future is bleak for "America's oldest gunmaker".

Libraries in your community, which are members of the Missouri Library Association, are seeking to restrict your ability to defend yourself and reverse the hard-won progress achieved with the passage of Senate Bill 656 back in 2016.
During their annual conference, the Missouri Library Association voted to include in its legislative agenda a desire to allow libraries to opt out of allowing law-abiding citizens to defend themselves while on their properties. |

It really is remarkable that anti-gun partisans can so blithely toss about bromides, and castigate those they disagree with, over hypothetical and speculative scenarios; they have no apparent regard for actual history and experience. Example: In spite of fervently held beliefs by anti-gunners, citizens exercising their natural, God-given—and constitutionally confirmed—right to self-defense reportedly have over ten thousand defensive uses of guns per year.
That is a statistic that includes much more than the actual firing of a weapon in self-defense, which is invariably found justifiable by law enforcement. |

This past Tuesday the ATF and The Department of Justice initiated a regulatory process that could potentially rule bump stocks illegal due to the prohibitions on machine guns as laid out in the National Firearms Act Of 1934 and Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986.
The advanced notice of proposed rulemaking was given over to the Office of Management and Budget by the ATF. This notice kicked off the process needed to change the rules in regards to bump stocks. The industry and the general public are allowed to submit comments during the review process.

Writing for the majority, Justice Karen L. Valihura said that unelected officials at the two agencies lacked the power to enact the broad bans, which provided only a narrow exception for hunters who obtained permission to carry guns on the state lands.
“They lack such authority because they may not pass unconstitutional laws, and the regulations completely eviscerate a core right to keep and bear arms for defense of self and family outside the home—a right this court has already recognized,” Valihura wrote in a 46-page opinion, referring to the 2014 case Doe v. Wilmington Housing Authority. “As such, the regulations are unconstitutional on their face.” |

Those that grouse hunt in northern states have likely run into wolves at one point, or will in the future. Most of these occurrences pass without incident, but they also leave hunters thinking about “what if” scenarios for both them & their dogs. [52 dogs were attacked, injured or killed in Wisconsin alone in 2016] A shotgun loaded with birdshot can make some noise, but it isn't going to be very useful beyond that.

Our founders knew that it was a natural human right to own and use firearms for self-preservation and included the Second Amendment to the Constitution to protect that right. Whether you live in Miami or Pensacola, citizens should always have the right to protect themselves and their families. Law enforcement does a great job protecting citizens but there are times where people can be in imminent danger and cannot wait for law enforcement to be there in what could be a matter of seconds before someone could face death from an armed criminal. |

The House of Representatives passed H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, by a 231-198 vote on December 6. The bill is being hailed by gun-rights advocates because it will allow people with permits for carrying concealed handguns in their home state to do so in any state that allows concealed weapons.
Though champions of gun owners’ rights have applauded this bill, it is badly flawed. In order to gain bipartisan support for H.R. 38, it was merged with H.R. 4477, the Fix NICS Act of 2017, designed to “enforce current law regarding the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.” (A copy of the merged bill can be read here.) |

The Hi-Point C-9 pistol is a 9 mm, blowback-operated, eight-round, mid-size pistol. It’s among what some call the “entry-level,” “budget” or perhaps even “value-oriented” market. This is an inexpensive firearm—the MSRP for the pistol alone is less than $200, meaning the off-the-shelf price is well below two bills. In other words, this is a firearm that can be obtained for about the same price as three or four magazines for a Coonan, Heckler & Koch or SIG Sauer. While the C-9 is less polished than such fine firearms, it’s also well within the means of any citizen wishing to arm him or herself with a handgun in a caliber ideal for self-defense.

A focus was put on Viridian’s proprietary INSTANT-ON technology that ensures the camera automatically begins recording when the weapon is removed from an officer’s holster. This feature eliminates the potential drawback of body cameras not being manually activated at critical times.
The audience also learned how WMCs provide an unobstructed view of an incident involving a firearm. In addition, they heard how Viridian WMCs require minimal data management and storage costs because data is only obtained from the infrequent occasions when an officer’s firearm is drawn. |

This week, an alert was issued by the National Rifle Association that Florida Carry was “cutting off its nose to spite its face“. It claimed that Florida Carry's unwillingness to compromise its core values was the reason that we do not have open carry in Florida.
NRA is the nation's oldest civil rights organization. They were founded in 1871. Florida Carry has only existed since 2011. Who then is responsible for allowing the 1934 passage of a bill allowing the federal government to register and tax Suppressors and automatic firearms? |

To that end, included in the bill is the Fix NICS Act, a bipartisan bill that will ensure federal and state law enforcement are complying with existing laws and are reporting criminal history records to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s system to check whether or not individuals are eligible to purchase firearms. |

Like any committed career politician, Mike DeWine is playing games of deception with Ohioans and their safety simply to win another election and add to his over four decades in office.
Using insider gimmicks, posing at gun shows and, ironically, retweeting the National Rifle Association, DeWine is hoping to conceal his abysmal record on gun rights. Receiving an “F” rating from the NRA during his time as a U.S. senator, DeWine has been so opposed to Second Amendment rights that the NRA even threatened to endorse a Democrat over him in his 2006 re-election. |

“(They said), ‘You can’t have that here, and you can’t be a Disney employee and be carrying. It’s against our policies,’” Martinez told WFTV9. “Well, I had never been informed of that.”
Martinez was immediately suspended, and later fired.
Gun policies at the company’s parks are clear, the WFTV9 reported, but Martinez said there were no signs at Disney Springs prohibiting concealed carry.
Now, Martinez questions whether Disney had the right to fire him for legally carrying a weapon on his day off.
“It’s a Second Amendment right for me to carry legally,” Martinez said. “I did everything legally and now it’s almost like I’m being punished for it.” |

The Honolulu Police Department has been sending letters out to medical marijuana users this year to tell them that they “have 30 days upon receipt of this letter to voluntarily surrender your firearms.”
That includes a letter dated Nov. 13, signed by police chief Susan Ballard.
“Your medical marijuana use disqualifies you from ownership of firearms and ammunition,” the letter read, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
Now, that policy is no more, Ballard said in a news release on Tuesday.
Instead, the police chief said her department wants to look over court rulings and talk with others in government to determine the best next steps, according to the Honolulu Civil Beat. |

Are you afraid of the new Fix NICS H.R. 4477 that was attached to H.R. 38, the National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act?
If so, why? Look, here’s the deal. Like everyone else who cares about advancing our right to bear arms until we realize our full constitutional guarantee (the Second Amendment recognized as our carry permit, concealed or otherwise), H.R. 38 is probably the single best piece of pro-rights legislation ever voted on in the House of Representatives in my lifetime… even with H.R. 4477 attached. |

Gun prohibitionists are having fits in the wake of House passage of H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, on a nearly-partisan 231-198 vote Wednesday, exemplified by the hysteria-laden email blast from anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety that declared the bill will “gut state gun laws and allow many people with dangerous histories and no training to carry hidden, loaded handguns across the country.” |
