The U.S. Supreme Court will conference next Monday, Dec. 16 to determine whether justices will hear arguments in the long-running challenge of Maryland’s ban on so-called “assault weapons,” to ultimately rule whether such a ban violates the Second Amendment.
The case is known as Snope v. Brown, but was originally known as Bianchi v. Frosh, which tells a bit about how long it has been around. On March 22, 2022, Alabama's Governor Kay Ivey signed HB 272, also known as the constitutional carry bill, into law. Ivey is quoted as saying, "Alabama is reaffirming our commitment to defending our Second Amendment rights." Few issues in American politics are as controversial as gun control, and while the federal government imposes some restrictions on firearms, state governments have the ability to pass their own legislation. |

A bill that would see the destruction of some firearms in the state of Michigan led to some people getting emotional while testifying at the Capitol Tuesday. HB 6144 would require police departments to destroy all firearms they received from buyback programs or guns that were forfeited due to a crime. |
