Los Angeles-AP -- An attempt by Los Angeles officials to cut down on police responses to false alarms makes an exception -- for city officials.
City officials are exempt from the new policy, which will end police responses to most burglar alarms unless they're verified by a property owner or private security company.
But the mayor, City Council members, city controller, city attorney, schools, city buildings and gun dealers will still get priority responses.
Residents are fined 95 dollars after a first false alarm -- but city officials don't have to pay the fees or the annual alarm permit fee.
There's also some evidence the city could be part of the false alarm problem.
One councilwoman says three of her field offices had nearly 50 false alarms in the past year and a-half. |

"A gun-control group has begun a new campaign against large sniper rifles, asserting that the rifles together with armor-piercing ammunition that bursts into flames on impact pose a serious threat to airliners at airports."
Lie: It's nearly impossible to shoot an airborne plane from the ground with this weapon, and it's impossible to sneak one into an airport past security to shoot an airliner that's on the ground. "Tom Diaz, a senior policy analyst at the Violence Policy Center, the gun-control group that has long campaigned for bans on the .50-caliber rifles, said: 'This is not just a gun control issue. It's a national security issue.' "
Blatant lie: There has never been a documented use of this weapon by any terrorist group here in the US.
