Does ‘fatally flawed’ minority report on gunwalking ‘absolve’ administration?

... "Unsurprisingly, the minority report would convince us senior administration officials are cleared of any knowledge and wrongdoing, and that the solution is to enact some administrative changes, treat 'flaws' as internal personnel, rather than criminal matters, and enact more 'gun control.' That makes it easy to point the finger at lower-level Phoenix operatives—if they face no criminal charges, there’s no incentive for them to squeal, and the ones who might can simply plead the Fifth (although why one would have to if there have been no crimes committed remains conspicuously unexplained) or simply not 'recall'." ...

Why Do Concealed Carriers Carry Concealed?

"Over the last few years, calls for the right to carry firearms concealed have reached a crescendo. In step, politicians from both sides of the aisle have endorsed opinions on the subject and, with very few exceptions, these public servants tend to tailor their stances in line with those of their base of support. For those opposed to concealed carry, this often means pointing to numbers that make the argument gun-related deaths would be vastly diminished if we all were to simply disarm but what these interests tend to avoid are the powerful anecdotal cases where a legally armed citizen defended himself or herself against some robber, rapist or lunatic. ... Oh, he’s willing to admit that they have their moments, citing this incident in San Antonio where a homeowner shot at two armed men (killing one, wounding the other) coming into his house through his garage. But Ricardo almost immediately goes into damning-with-faint-praise mode saying, 'and this, of course, is the type of incident that seemingly undercuts the arguments of even the most ardent supporters of reasonable gun control and bolsters those of folks in the opposing, see-that’s-what-I-mean camp.' "Following the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940, the prevailing attitude in Great Britain was one of panic as many believed the advancing Nazis stood poised to invade England at any moment. This being the case, the Royal Air Force decided to quickly adopt a fresh submachine gun for airfield defense and with no time to spare for the development of something new or revolutionary, the Brits turned to an unlikely source of inspiration—their enemies— making copies of the German MP 28 for their own use. "Although the phrase one shot, one kill has become something of a cliché amongst shooters, there are many deadly scenarios—take for instance the classic hostage rescue scenario—when one powerful shot to the melon is needed to cause the near instantaneous death of the attacker. Making sure that this shot is effective takes precise shot placement and, in the case of the hostage taker, most law enforcement officers and military operators use the T-zone to make sure when they shoot, it will be once and done." ...
