Not guilty. A Bexar County jury chose not to convict a man charged with murder after he claimed he killed his uncle in self-defense.

Jcoery Smith, 22, was charged with murder in connection with the 2022 death of Roger Allen. Had the jury found him guilty, Smith would have faced up to life in prison.

The jury deliberated for about 45 minutes. Judge Joel Perez of the 437th district court read the verdict Friday.

Prosecutors said Smith and Allen had been in an ongoing argument regarding business matters leading up to the shooting.

A federal appeals court on Thursday ruled that a law stipulating a minimum age of 21 years to purchase handguns is unconstitutional, citing in part the history of firearm use in its connection with militia service.

A three-judge panel on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans — which has been behind some of the nation’s most conservative rulings on issues like abortion, gun rights and immigration — wrote in its ruling that 18- to 20-year-olds should not be barred from making handgun purchases.

On Wednesday, January 29th, 2025, the Wisconsin Legislature Joint Committee for the Review of Administrative Rules (JCRAR) approved the repeal of Wis. Admin. Code § NR 20.05(2).

“No person may…[p]ossess or control any firearm, gun or similar device at any time while on the waters, banks or shores that might be used for the purpose of fishing.”

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) rule has been in place since 1999. It effectively banned the possession of firearms in wide areas of the State. The repeal took place because the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) filed a lawsuit on June 6, 2024, as reported on AmmoLand.

As political “red” states go, Wyoming is among the reddest. It’s so red, in fact, that the state has a law on the books providing penalties for government officials who infringe upon the Second Amendment rights of Cowboy State citizens.

Wyoming Statute 9-14-203 was passed in 2022 and imposes a penalty of up to a year of imprisonment and a fine up to $2,000 for state or local officials who infringe on 2A rights. Now, however, eight state legislators are pushing a plan to do away with the statute.

“The federal government has presented scant evidence that eighteen-to-twenty-year-olds’ firearm rights during the founding-era were restricted in a similar manner to the contemporary federal handgun purchase ban, and its 19th century evidence ‘cannot provide much insight into the meaning of the Second Amendment when it contradicts earlier evidence,’” Judge Jones added in the conclusion.

I am writing to unreservedly endorse Todd Vandermyde for a position on the NRA Board of Directors. Over the years, I’ve come to know Todd not only as a dedicated advocate for the Second Amendment but also as a true expert in the field.

Todd Vandermyde possesses an unparalleled understanding of both the legal and legislative processes surrounding the Second Amendment at both the state and federal levels. His experience as a lobbyist for the NRA in Illinois for over 25 years has given him a deep insight into how to navigate and influence policy effectively.

A recent federal appeals court ruling could make it easier for young people ages 18 to 20 to legally purchase handguns, sparking debate over the potential impact on violent crime in cities like Memphis.

The Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals struck down a long-standing federal law from 1968 that restricted handgun purchases to individuals 21 and older. The court ruled that the law violates the Second Amendment, arguing that since 18-year-olds were considered adults at the time the Constitution was written, their right to keep and bear arms is protected.

A U.S. appeals court has struck down the federal ban on licensed gun dealers selling handguns to people between the ages of 18 and 20. The decision comes after two other circuit courts ruled against age restrictions in recent months, significantly raising the chances that the Supreme Court will weigh in, legal experts say.

On January 30, a panel of the New Orleans-based 5th Circuit Court of Appeals held that 18- to 20-year-olds are protected by the Second Amendment, and the ban on them purchasing handguns violates their rights.

A federal appeals court on Thursday struck down a longstanding federal ban that prevented the sale of handguns to Americans between the ages of 18 and 20 - a landmark gun control regulation in place since 1968.

The conservative Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that the federal law banning handgun sales to teens is inconsistent with the nation's historical tradition and violates the Second Amendment.

We're a little over a week away from the Super Bowl in New Orleans, and as talks continue about safety, concealed carry seems to be of concern.

Although there are several security preps being made in and around the downtown area, people will still be allowed to carry guns in huge crowds, including the enhanced security zone.

Super Bowl LIX in the Crescent City is almost here, and local artist Kristian Pedersen is starting to see security measures take shape.

"More of that is always good," said Pedersen.

Sandra Ramirez’s son Joseph was hanging out with friends last February at the home of a boy whose parents owned a gun.

One of the children found the gun in an unlocked safe, Ramirez told the House Committee on Civil Rights & Judiciary last week. The gun went off, killing Joseph Martinez, 13.

“This tragedy could have been prevented if the firearm was properly locked up,” said Ramirez, of Richland. “I don’t just see the shooter as responsible for this happening. I see the gun owners, the adults, as who should be held accountable.”

The story with guns is more mixed. Support for gun control is virtually universal among Democrats. Some types of gun control also enjoy overwhelming support from the general public. However, a far-right Supreme Court has blocked most measures that would have any real impact. Why we have less cause to celebrate with guns than tobacco, it is important that a major industry is now viewed as a pariah by most of the public.

The company brought so many new products to SHOT Show 2025 that we had to split coverage between multiple articles and videos. Here are Palmetto State’s new pistol concepts.

A firearms amnesty will get underway on Monday after new evidence emerged about the potentially lethal risk posed by a particular type of blank firing gun.

The guns, known as ‘top-venting blank firers’ (TVBFs), are manufactured in Turkey. In their original form they pose little risk, but in recent years an increasing number have been converted and have been used in serious violence.

Since 2021, more than 800 have been recovered in criminal circumstances across the UK.

Palmetto State Armory was one of the most talked-about manufacturers at SHOT last year with their whole spate of new projects. 2025 continues that trend with a bevy of new and interesting items. This year included a whole spate of concept guns and some other items that are either in production now or coming soon. The concept guns are not guaranteed to ever reach the market, and PSA will prioritize the items that captured the most votes in their poll.
