"Mr. Ricker's inside account will be powerful evidence in the California case, and should help in others, including a $433 million suit filed by the city of Chicago. But the courts are not the only institution that should take note. The gun industry's allies in Congress have introduced legislation to grant gun manufacturers and dealers immunity from lawsuits of this kind. Given evidence of industry connivance in illegal distribution, such a law would be the height of irresponsibility."

"A vision came to me then. I was in a Green Valley restaurant with my wife and about 10 other couples. The air was heavy with cigarette and pipe smoke. All the males, except me, were wearing heavy belts filled with ammunition and a mighty six shooter on each side. Suddenly an adolescent Billie-the-Kid [sic] type guy came swaggering in and, in a whiny adolescent sneering voice shouted obsenities [sic], pulled his right-side pistol and aimed at a large middle-aged super macho John Wayne-looking guy who was sipping a lemonade. I grabbed my wife's arm and we hit the deck. Shots roared through the building. Within 10 minutes it became quite[sic] like a morgue. I peered over the edge of the table. Everyone else was dead except the bartender. He told us that every gun-carrying patron pulled his gun to protect himself but wasn't sure which other guy was aiming at him, so they all aimed at each other and pulled the trigger. My wife/and I had a brandy and left."

-------
Did this paranoid coward drive away in his car after having alcohol at this bar in his trite little satirical vision? If he did, he's much more a danger to all around him than a law-abiding citizen with a gun.

Might want to learn to spell too.

CA: Gun Lobby's Perfect Aim

"In the last four years, California has passed more high-profile gun-control laws than most other states combined. It is widely lauded as the most progressive state on gun control. But I believe we should see this not as progress toward an end to gun violence but as a great victory for the gun lobby, which has succeeded spectacularly well in blocking laws that would make a real difference."

-------
The author of this editorial readily admits that California has some of the toughest gun laws in the country. However, she immediately blames the gun lobby for the high rate of victimization that occurs in California for not allowing a yet tougher, more intrusive nanny state to throttle the last vestiges of freedom in that state. The gun lobby appears to be a convenient whipping boy to cover up the inefficiency of draconian gun laws.

"The draft, a potential successor to the Patriot Act that passed Congress after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, would authorize the Justice Department to conduct clandestine searches or eavesdrop on any suspected terrorist or foreign agent for 15 days after the beginning of a military conflict or 'national emergency,' rather than after a formal declaration of war, as current law provides. It would also permit wiretaps of U.S. citizens in terrorism cases for longer periods and with less court oversight than now permitted; and allow the department to collect a DNA-sample database from both convicted and suspected terrorists."

What is ominous is the ease with which some people go from saying that they don't like something to saying that the government should forbid it. When you go down that road, don't expect freedom to survive very long. — Thomas Sowell
