... "The bit that gets me: the idea that limiting spree killers to 10 rounds gives some of the mass murderer’s victims a fighting chance. Thanks a lottery."
"Anyway, who the hell wants a 'fighting chance' against a spree killer? I want the armed loony terminated with extreme prejudice. No fair fight. I want him (or less likely her) to face immediate and overwhelming firepower. Did you know that LEO trainers are now instructing police in the fine art of contact head shots for just such an occasion? Sounds about right to me." ... |

Submitter's Note: Repealing the Second Amendment would no more remove the individual's right to self-defense than repealing the First would remove the individual right to worship as one chooses. To say nothing of the possible unintended consequences. |

"A couple of days ago, RF asked me to join the writing staff at The Truth about Guns. I agreed to become the site's resident mad scientist. I have a bad/good habit of questioning 'accepted knowledge' about guns, whether it be the supposed superiority of FNH’s semi-automatic shotgun offerings or whether Wolf ammunition’s accuracy is correlated with its price (that one you may have seen before). I use science and statistics to get a definite answer instead of relying on gun store scuttlebutt. I have a couple experiments in mind, but I want to hear what TTAG's Armed Intelligentsia needs to know. To start the conversation, here are a few ideas my friends and I have been kicking around during the past few days . . ." ... |

... "Farley has introduced a bill that would outlaw extended-capacity ammunition magazines in Arizona. Such supersized ammo clips were outlawed for a decade by the federal assault weapons ban, which expired in 2004; it's well past time to outlaw them again." ...
"... No one outside law enforcement and the military 'needs' to fire 30-plus rounds without interruption. Hunters do not; neither do target shooters or those who carry guns for self-defense." ... -------
Submitter's Note: So how many do these people 'need' to fire? 20? 15? 10? 5? This guy could probably fire 30 shots as fast as the Tucson shooter using 3 round mags. |

"When [the Tucson shooter] allegedly opened fire on January 8th, his handgun had a 31-round magazine. Records indicate that Loughner bought the weapon and the high capacity magazine legally. Now, state Representative Steve Farley (D-28, Tucson) wants Arizona to ban those high capacity magazines."
"Federal law banned the high capacity magazines until just a few years ago, so House Bill 2711 aims to limit magazines to only 10 bullets. Farley says he is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, but believes 'reasonable' limits lie within the purview of that amendment." ... |

... "With their decision to reject the calculated negotiation of their previous 'old guard' board members, who for example, came out publicly in support of a proposed ban on .38 Specials by then-senator Birch Bayh of Indiana, they embarked upon a 'no compromise' plan of action for the future." ... -------
Submitter's Note: No compromise? Except for their continued failure to seek repeal of 1934 NFA, 1968 GCA, 1986 FOPA (Hughes amendment), the Brady Bill(s) and the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban, their endorsement of the NICS Improvement Act of 2007, their failure to support the various Firearms Freedom Acts pending across the country. Nope, no hint of compromise there! |

... "However, if we recognize that the need to arm the public in general is no longer pressing, but that there are legitimate uses for firearms that are, in any event, a part of our history and culture, perhaps we can tinker with the verbiage of the Second Amendment and come up with something a bit more workable." ... -------
Submitter's Note: How 'bout this 'verbiage': "Anyone who attempts to impose any sort of restriction on any sort of firearm is guilty of treason and subject to immediate execution by any citizen of the United States. Any citizen who executes such a traitor will receive all of the traitor's assets and will not be imprisioned unless convicted by a random jury of 1200 of his peers." |

"What we don't know yet, because the ATF and the Justice Department are unwilling to tell us, are the names of the faceless dead of other people in Mexico killed with rifles of similar provenance, provided them by SAC Newell and friends in the Phoenix ATF office. "Current state law applies only to one's home or workplace." ... -------
Submitter's Note: How about phrasing it this way: Is 'presumption of innocence' needed? Under current law burden of proof is on the shooter to show s/he acted lawfully. This is not the way it us supposed to work. |

"So the on-again, off-again, on-again long gun registry is off-again. And this time it looks officially official. And the official making the announcement is not the man in charge (hint: the guy above). It's Meg Reilly, a spokeswoman for Office of Management and Budget (OMB). According to msnbc.com, Ms. Reilly's department reached the surprising conclusion that the ATF's 'emergency' regulation requiring some 8500 border-sniffing American gun dealers to report purchases of more than two mag-fed rifles at a time wasn’t based on an emergency. ...
