Officials are investigating the theft of thousands of rounds of ammunition from a Crater Lake National Park storage building.
Park rangers noticed the rifle and pistol caliber ammunition was missing early Monday morning, park spokeswoman Jennifer Evans said. Investigators are offering up to $1,000 for tips that lead to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or people who stole the bullets.
Evans said the ammunition theft is a felony crime.
Investigators think the suspect, or suspects, entered through at least one locked door of a storage building near the park's headquarters and then took the ammunition from secured lockers.

As Rick, Daryl, Michonne, Carl, and the rest are forced to gather the weapons they’ve used thus far to protect themselves at great cost from both the living and the dead, then turn those weapons in to Negan’s tyrannical Saviors, the fear, at least for me, became just a bit more real. After all, isn’t peasant disarmament what tyrants have always done throughout history? I’m not likely to face any zombies (other than drug-addled ones who may try to block my street to “protest” something or other), but the threat of disarmament is always quite real, and quite scary.

UT: Urge your Legislators to Amend Flawed Carry Bill

HB 112 would only allow individuals tocarry a concealed firearm without a permit so long as a cartridge is not chambered or in the case of a revolver, two empty consecutive chambers in the cylinder. This bill would apply additional restrictions on the way an individual chooses to defend themselves. Requiring an individual to carry an unloaded firearm for self-defense is no different than the state mandating gun locks on the firearm in your nightstand. You may choose to utilize a gun lock or safe because that is appropriate for your own situation. The decision on your method of carry should be no different.

J. Scott Kappas, a private-practice attorney in Kentucky, felt the need to have a concise, accurate summary of firearm transport and carry laws throughout the United States during his travels. This led to the development of the "Traveler's Guide to the Firearms Laws in the Fifty States," an annual reference guide that is in its 21st year of publication for 2017.

The newest edition, published in January 2017, contains more than 100 changes from the 2016 edition, reflecting changes in motor-vehicle carry, concealed carry reciprocity and firearm law preemption, among other topics. The book opens with noted changes enacted by state legislatures in 2016, as well as pending legislation in states at print time.

If you did not hand in your firearm for destruction after its licence expired, you are now in possession of an illegal firearm and you can be charged.

This is according to spokesperson for the Bedforview SAPS, Captain André de Jager.

Capt De Jager said firearm licences are renewable 90 days before the expiry date.

“Owners should ensure that applications are done in advance because the system currently in use will not allow you to renew once there are less than 90 days before expiry,” said Capt De Jager.

Gun Review: Browning BLR lever action rifle in .223

I like lever-action guns and you probably do, too. But not many people seem to use them. This is largely because the things that make lever-action firearms fun and appealing—the manual operation, old-school cartridges, nostalgia—often run up against more practical considerations that modern firearm designs have addressed. A limited appeal leaves lever-action rifles in specialist territory, however, Browning has made a serious effort to fix problems inherent with the lever-action rifle with their Browning Lever Rifle (BLR). It’s a thoroughly modern take on old-school cool, so for this review, I’ll be taking a look at the BLR in the very popular .223 Remington.

A lawmaker from the Lakelands says he hasn’t decided yet whether he’ll support an effort to allow South Carolina gun owners to carry a concealed firearm without a permit.

Last month, state Rep. Jonathon Hill, R-Anderson, saw his H. 3240 referred to the House Judiciary Committee. The provision mirrors a bill that was sunk by a Senate subcommittee last year.

State Rep. John McCravy, R-Greenwood and a member of the Judiciary Committee, said while he’s a strong proponent of Second Amendment rights, loosening concealed carry laws worries him.

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives issued a strong statement in support of the Second Amendment by passing H.J. Res. 40, which would repeal Barack Obama’s scandalous attempt to grab guns from thousands of law-abiding Social Security Administration (SSA) beneficiaries.

Since then, anti-gunners and their media collaborators have been issuing false, contradictory, and downright dishonest attempts to derail this critical measure to protect the Second Amendment rights of tens of thousands of innocent, law-abiding, non-violent Americans.

Later, they’ll lay a wreath at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

The coalition’s advisory committee includes 20 law enforcement officers from around the country. The group will urge leaders to support "responsible change" that respects 2nd Amendment rights for law-abiding citizens and helps keeps guns out of the wrong hands.

It’s the kind of situation that explains why the Omaha Police Officers Association opposes a bill in the Nebraska Legislature that would force cities, villages and counties to repeal their local gun ordinances in favor of less-restrictive state gun regulations.

Omaha City Councilman Garry Gernandt also testified against the measure Friday during a three-hour public hearing before the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee.

Legislative Bill 68 has been identified as the top priority of firearms organizations and many gun owners, who say the assortment of regulations in Omaha and Lincoln is confusing and too easy to violate.

A burglar attempting to enter a Cape Coral home via its lanai found himself face-to-face with an armed resident and fled the home only to be captured by police.

Officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 100 block of SW 22nd Court around 1:30 a.m. Friday. When they arrived, Jim Gibbons told them the would-be burglar was scared away by a revolver. He gave officers a description of the suspect and eventually a barking dog tipped them off to the suspect’s location.

Current law allows police chiefs to decide if a person should be given a permit to carry a concealed gun, although "open carry," where the weapon can be seen, is allowed. A similar bill was vetoed by then-Gov. Maggie Hassan in 2015. In her veto message, she wrote, "I support the Second Amendment and I believe that Americans have a right to responsibly own guns for personal safety, hunting and recreation. However, I also recognize the need to balance the rights of gun owners with the rights of all New Hampshire citizens to be safe in their communities."

A setback for gun rights advocates in Seattle.

A judge is allowing the city to withhold data on how much money it collects from gun and ammunition sales.

“We were pleased with the court’s decision today,” says Assistant City Attorney Kent Meyer, “She denied the plantiff’s motion for summary judgement, and that’s what we asked her to do.”

David Edwards is the lawyer for Dave Workman with the Second Amendment Foundation.

“All he want’s to know is how much Seattle has collected from this tax. Seattle won’t release that number… The judge’s ruling is that she does not have enough facts in front of her to be able to make a decision,” says Edwards.

Jeff Sessions, the former U.S. senator from Alabama, was confirmed on Wednesday as the new U.S. attorney general.

The NRA had heavily promoted Sessions’s nomination, and he enjoyed the support of the entire Republican caucus in the U.S. Senate. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) also crossed the aisle to vote for the long-time Alabama senator.

In addition to a Senate career spanning more than 20 years during which he consistently enjoyed “A” and “A+” ratings from the NRA, Sessions brings a wealth of law enforcement experience to his new position. He began a career as a federal prosecutor in 1975.

The Indiana General Assembly opened its session in January. It is now the fifth straight year Republicans have had a Democrat-proof supermajority in both House and Senate. You would think by now they would have enacted new bulwarks protecting every one of the core beliefs in the GOP Platform (limited government, federalism, freedom from government interference, sanctity of life, second amendment, fiscal responsibility and so forth).

Plenty of bills were introduced supporting these beliefs but few saw the light of day. Instead, we have spending increases and new government programs. And this year, House Speaker Brian Bosma is proposing a tax increase. What happened?

Please contact your state legislators and urge them to oppose SD 1884!

The House draft of HB137 (including the poison pill amendment) is now heading to the Senate.

That’s why the Senate needs to hold the line on the Second Amendment and push the good bills without any weakening amendments. This is where we need your help.

The media is blasting Biteman’s “Campus Carry” and “Repeal Gun Free Zones” bills while concluding that they will inevitably die in the Senate, as it’s known to be the “more moderate” of the two chambers.

We can’t let them pass these bills in this condition. They must hear from us.

They’re getting pressured from gun-grabbing billionaires and their front groups to keep these poison pills intact, effectively doing nothing for gun owners.

The 10-day waiting period has been upheld by the courts.

The question in our case, Silvester v. Kamala D. Harris (former California Attorney General), is whether California violated the Constitution by requiring a person who has previously purchased a firearm or who already has a permit to carry a concealed weapon (CWP), is still required to wait the full 10 days if they clear the background check in less than 10 days.

In other words, why should someone who already owns a gun or has a CWP have to wait 10 days?

A white paper recently out from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives suggests that the agency is ready to support legislative reforms to potions of the National Firearms Act.

In a move that could signal the 2nd Amendment renaissance many conservatives hoped for under the Trump administration, top ATF officials are urging a new look at regulations on firearm suppressors and import bans and regulations for certain firearms.

The recently-released white paper, authored by ATF second-in-command Ronald Turk, says the agency is interested in reforms that promote commerce and defend the Second Amendment without significant negative impact on ATF’s mission to fight violent firearms crime and regulate the firearms industry.”

Of specific interest to this readership is the church’s position on guns. They urge their members to be activists, and to tell Congress:

“I am a constituent and an Episcopalian, and I am calling to urge [name of member of Congress here] to support policies that will change the culture of violence in our country. We need legislation that limits sales of military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines, requires effective background checks for all gun purchases, provides for better access to mental health services, and directs attention to gun trafficking.”
