The Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence just released the latest edition of its Annual Gun Law Scorecard.
Michigan received a ‘C.’
That’s the same score as 2018.
The report adds that Michigan has “significant room for progress when it comes to gun safety.”
The score was determined by analyzing gun legislation in all 50 states and evaluating bills for their strength or weaknesses.
In order for Michigan to raise their grade, Michigan would need to enact child access prevention and extreme protection order laws, according to the scorecard.

That topic is regarding the county passing a resolution that states it would be a “sanctuary county‘ for the Second Amendment.
In the packet for the executive committee meeting, Wexford County Administrator Janet Koch supplied five different resolutions from various counties regarding the topic including from Marquette, Cheboygan, Oscoda, Mackinac, and Osceola. She also gave the committee members a letter from Rep. Michele Hoitenga, R-Manton, that states her support of the Second Amendment. |

With their eyes on the prize, the 16 best Air Rifle marksman in America pulled the trigger on a Team USA Olympic berth Sunday afternoon at the Training Center.
"I think the biggest thing I was working on through this weekend was to make sure I was shooting my match and not worrying about what everyone was shooting as well," Team USA qualifier Ali Weisz said.
Standing nearly 34 feet from a target nearly impossible to see, these skilled athletes showed the crowd exactly what it takes to represent the Red, White and Blue.
"I just took it one shot a a time, just living in this moment," Team USA qualifier Lucas Kozeniesky said.

While there are some in the United States who believe we are headed toward another Civil War, there is perhaps another, more recent parallel worth exploring – the so-called “Italian Years of Lead.”
The short version is that in the late 1960s through the early 1980s, Italy was a hotbed of assassination, shoot-outs and bombings between various factions of the far-left, the far-right and the Italian government – with American, British and Soviet intelligence agencies often pulling the strings.

Struggling Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden unleashed another incoherent rant about gun rights in front of a group of New Hampshire residents this weekend. While offering lots of the usual misinformation — Biden stands firmly against “20, 30, 40, 50 clips in a weapon,” for instance — things really fell apart when he started quoting Thomas Jefferson.

St. Clair County is now on the growing list of Michigan counties supporting the right for citizen’s to keep and bear arms. Commissioners on Thursday adopted a revised resolution reaffirming second amendment rights. The resolution was originally to declare St. Clair County a second amendment “sanctuary” county. However last week’s resolution did not include the sanctuary language. “A sanctuary county, as far as the second amendment goes, there is no definition out there,” said Commissioner Bill Gratopp. |

The year was 1962. My friend Bobby Norman got a Remington Nylon 66 for his birthday. We rode our motorcycles out to Hurricane Creek Bottom to shoot it. To say I was envious is an understatement — my .22 rifle was a bolt action single-shot and to add to my envy, Bobby’s motorcycle was a Honda Dream 305 while mine was only a 150. |

The new owner of a more than 22,000-square-foot building off West Saginaw Highway, home to two gyms in the last few years, plans to turn the space into a gun shop and indoor shooting range by this summer.
When The Range 517 opens at 6135 W. Saginaw Hwy. it will occupy all but one 1,300-square-foot suite in the building where Great Harvest Bread Company is located.
The Range 517 will offer sales of new and used firearms, ammunition and gun safes and an indoor shooting range with 12 lanes, new owner Eric Haddad said. Private instruction and classes will be offered on site, he said.
"When it's done it's going to be a state-of-the-art facility," Haddad, a 2003 graduate of Lansing Catholic High School, said.

Vista Outdoor (NYSE:VSTO) is up almost 15% since reporting fiscal third-quarter results on Feb. 6 that blew past analysts' targets for both the top and bottom lines. Helping to push the outdoor recreation gear company ahead was the ammunition division, which recorded its first quarter of sales growth in almost four years. Despite having sold off its firearms business, Vista still needs to ride the industry's coattails for gains, and growing a business beyond guns is still challenging. |

Students of firearm history know the concept of pistol-caliber carbines is not a new one. They really first became a hot item back in 1873, when Winchester introduced the Model 1873 carbine and rifle. Coincidentally, that is the same year Colt unveiled the Single Action Army revolver. In short order, Winchester offered the Model 73 in .44-40 WCF, .38-40 WCF and .32-20 WCF chamberings. Colt responded by chambering its big revolver in the same calibers. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Some of the worst abuses of government force in recent years were precipitated by technical and victimless gun-law violations. For example, the BATF claimed that the Branch Davidians possessed machine guns without paying the required federal tax and filling in the proper registration forms. So a tax case worth less than $10,000 led to a 76-man helicopter, machine gun, and grenade assault on a home in which 2/3 of the occupants were women and children. — Dave Kopel and Dr. Michael S.
