Maryland gun owners once again have a large-scale fight on their hands with the Speaker of the House’s new gun ban legislation, House Bill 1261. We remember the relentless battle against Senate Bill 281 in 2013, and now anti-gun legislators are trying to take your guns again! The Speaker is looking to follow anti-gun efforts in other states with the introduction of one of the most restrictive – and unconstitutional – gun ban bills in history. House Bill 1261 has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee, but no hearing has been scheduled. It is imperative that you contact committee members now with STRONG OPPOSITION to this egregious measure.

Democrats in Virginia’s House of Delegates passed legislation Tuesday to ban suppressors, “high capacity” magazines, and “assault weapons.”

The bill, HB 961, now moves to the Virginia Senate.

The USCCA announced today that it raised more than $28,000 during its January donation campaign to support communities of faith, following a series of recent attacks in Texas and New York. The donation represents the proceeds raised from the sale of the new book — Keeping Your Church Safe — and will be divided equally between the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas, and the Jewish community in New York.

The Mineral County Commission has declared the county a Second Amendment Sanctuary, vowing to oppose any new gun laws they believe violate the Constitution. All three commissioners — President Roger Leatherman, Dr. Richard Lechliter and Jerry Whisner — signed a resolution during a recent meeting, as did County Clerk Lauren Ellifritz.

The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI)—the organization that creates industry standards to ensure the safety, reliability and interchangeability of firearms, ammunition and components—has officially accepted the .300 HAM’R rifle cartridge and published [PDF] its specifications. The cartridge, developed by SIG Sauer, was introduced with a maximum average pressure (MAP) of 57,500 psi with a 125-grain bullet at a velocity 2,450 fps or 130-grain load at 2,425 fps.

Marion County has been declared a Second Amendment “Sanctuary County,” taking a stand against unconstitutional gun laws. The unanimous vote by the Marion County Commissioners Court was made on Monday, following a public comment from local attorney and citizen, Jim Finstrom, who expressed his concerns with the resolution.

People packed the conference room at the County Administration Building in Bakersville Monday, Feb. 3, to show both support and opposition for Mitchell County’s Second Amendment Protection Resolution. The Mitchell County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the resolution, which declares the county a Second Amendment Constitutional Rights Protection county.

In a largely symbolic move, Greenbrier County Commissioners have unanimously adopted what is being called a Second Amendment resolution. By approving the measure on Tuesday, they join at least 13 other West Virginia counties in reaffirming support for not only the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which references “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms,” but also a section of the state constitution that asserts, “A person has the right to keep and bear Arms for the defense of self, family, home and state, and for lawful hunting and recreational use.”

Several important topics of discussion were brought up at the Mercer County commission meeting on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. One of them is hot debate across the two Virginias. In the last few weeks, a number of counties across the Virginia’s turned into second amendment sanctuaries, and now Mercer County is joining. The Doddridge and Calhoun County commissions voted to make their communities a Second Amendment Sanctuary. The resolution “gives people a little bit of reassurance that we are not going to support any kind of legislation or laws that infringe on the freedom or rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment,” Calhoun County Sheriff Jeff Starcher said.

Cherokee County passed a “Second Amendment Preservation Resolution” on Monday. We went to find out what it is and why not everyone is on board. We spoke with Cherokee County Clerk Kyle Rennie about the second amendment preservation resolution adopted by county commissioners Monday to find out exactly what it’s for. “Well it would give Cherokee County the authority to stop federal authorities from coming in here if they would ever try to enact a confiscation, we have the right to stand on our own authority.”

City Council members in Prescott have tabled a proposal that would have turned the city into a "2nd Amendment Sanctuary". According to an agenda posted to the city's website, Resolution 2020-1734, if approved, would have declared the City of Prescott a "Second Amendment Sanctuary City".

Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino wants to change city rules to allow park rangers to carry guns, arguing that it would better protect both rangers and parkgoers. In a proposal introduced Tuesday, Buscaino argued that park rangers routinely patrol “remote and desolate areas” and should have access to “all law enforcement tools and equipment” to keep people safe.

Iowans purchasing a gun or ammunition could have a sales tax-free holiday similar to the one families get every August on clothing, shoes and some school-related items. A House Economic Development subcommittee voted 2-1 Tuesday to establish a three-day period around the Fourth of July holiday when sales of firearms and ammunition would not be subject to the state sales tax.

The Belton Police Department is searching for two suspects they say cut a hole in the wall of a pawn shop, and got away with dozens of guns Tuesday morning. Police were alerted to the burglary after employees of B&B Pawn Shop on River Street noticed a small hole that had been cut in one of their walls.

The Saint Louis Public Schools Board was expected to vote on a resolution for safe gun storage Tuesday night. The resolution would direct the superintendent to create a letter with information about the secure storage of guns to be sent home to every parent or guardian in the district. The parent or guardian would then be required to sign and return the letter back to the school.

The first day of the legislative session was largely ceremonial, but a few House committees went to work Tuesday on key issues, including insulin access. Between now and May, the DFL-controlled House and Republican-controlled Senate will debate insulin, along with marijuana, taxes, voter privacy, public safety and more.
