We often use Baltimore as a great example of how gun control has little to no effect on violent crime in the firearms world. This is ironic because Maryland law is a gun control advocate’s paradise, receiving an “A-“from Giffords on their annual “Gun Law Scorecard.” Giffords also ranks Maryland 6th for “strong” gun laws in the country. Here in Maryland, we have the whole package; an assault weapons ban, licensing requirements, training requirements, a registry for handguns, and to cap it all off; Maryland is a “May Issue” state. |

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich and West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey are co-leading a coalition of 25 states to protect Americans’ right to bear arms, asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case Bianchi v. Frosh, where the justices should overturn the Fourth Circuit’s approval of a Maryland firearms ban.
...
The coalition is urging the supreme court to strike down a 2013 Maryland law that restricts what firearms law-abiding citizens may possess to protect themselves, thereby compromising the Second Amendment rights of millions of citizens. |

HB 4079, called the Oregon Freedom Pilot Program, would increase taxes on “luxury items,” with the money distributed to low-income pregnant women and adults who have aged out of the state’s foster youth program. While the purpose might be commendable, the fact that the bill’s authors included firearms in their list of “luxury items” is causing some concern.
Under the legislation, such “luxury” items would be subject to an additional three percent tax. Interestingly, the measure at this point is kind of a fill-in-the-blank proposition at this time, and will only include firearms over a certain, yet to be determined price. |

A bill that was recently introduced in the Missouri General Assembly, Senate Bill 666, recently received national attention. It was introduced by Eric Burlison, a senator from Greene County in southwest Missouri. If passed, it would significantly change Missouri law on the right of self-defense.
The bill had two features. First, it provided that there shall be a presumption of reasonableness that a defendant believed that physical or deadly force was necessary to defend him or herself from a third person in a criminal case. |

Suspects in shootings are required to raise a self-defense claim to prosecutors, who must then prove at trial that there was no threat. Burlison, who is running for Congress, proposed a measure that would relieve those who threaten to shoot of that responsibility by ensuring a “presumption of reasonableness.” Shooters would then be given immunity from prosecution.
Two Republican Senators, Jason Bean of Holcomb and Lincoln Hough of Springfield, joined two Democrats in voting down the measure 4-3 in the Senate Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee on Thursday. |

A fatal shooting resulting from a road rage incident won't be prosecuted after a Catoosa County grand jury found the shooter's claim of self-defense valid.
"This appears to be a tragic event that is a result of a couple of strangers who lost control of their emotions in a war of words," Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk said in a statement.
Jack Pedigo, 34, was shot and killed in September 2021 after he followed Daniel Vaughn and his wife to their home after an unspecified traffic incident on Battlefield Parkway. The grand jury made its decision not to charge Vaughn on Wednesday. |

House Bill 22-1086 “The Vote Without Fear Act” - The title itself is enough to let you know that sponsors and supporters of this measure hate your Second Amendment rights. HB 1086 will ban the open carry of a firearm at voting locations in the Centennial state. It is the intention of this measure to prohibit you from exercising one of your constitutional rights while engaging in another. The irony would be funny if it wasn’t a serious and deeply-held belief by anti-gun legislators that the Second Amendment is a lesser right. |

“I want to make sure that we protect our fellow Texans far better than we’re doing right now. And that we listen to law enforcement, which [Gov.] Greg Abbott refused to do. He turned his back on them when he signed that permitless carry bill that endangers the lives of law enforcement in a state that’s seen more cops and sheriff’s deputies gunned down than in any other.”
In response, one of Abbott’s Republican challengers, former state Sen. Don Huffines, a strong Second Amendment advocate, tweeted, “Does he really think Texans are going to believe this?”
Another Twitter user posted a screen shot of O’Rourke famously tweeting in 2019, “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15.” |

Amir Locke was fatally shot by Minneapolis police officers in an apartment early Wednesday morning as officers were executing a “no-knock” search warrant.
Locke, a legal gun owner, had been sleeping under a blanket on the couch, and body camera footage shows a gun in his hand as he begins to sit up when police begin to approach him.
An officer can be seen shooting him less than 10 seconds after entering the room: “That’s the moment when the officer had to make a split-second decision to assess the circumstances and determine whether he felt like there was an articulable threat,” according to acting Minneapolis Police Chief Amelia Huffman. |

On Tuesday, February 15th, at 3:00pm, the Senate State Affairs Committee has scheduled a public hearing on NRA-backed Emergency Powers Legislation, Senate Bill 136. Please contact committee members to ask them to SUPPORT Senate Bill 136 and provide testimony yourself!
Senate Bill 136, sponsored by Sen. Myers, provides protections for gun stores, ranges, or any other entity that engages in the lawful selling or servicing of firearms, components, or accessories. This might be a good time to ask “How do they vote?” before uncorking the champagne. We pretty much have those numbers, and they pretty much tell us we shouldn’t expect a sea change break with the Democrat Party and its “gun control” platform. Guns are simply not the most important identity or political priority for them. They don’t see a problem with that platform as articulated for them by their preferred political leaders and media outlets.
Yamane expands on that in the second video, noting that in the scheme of things, from hunting, sport shooting, competitions, collecting, and self-defense, “Second Amendment advocacy” is a “subculture,” that is not the “center of gravity.” |

After years of unsuccessful efforts, gun rights advocates have never been closer to convincing the General Assembly to pass legislation letting Georgians carry concealed firearms without a permit.
“To build a safer, stronger Georgia, we must ensure every Georgian feels safe and secure in their communities,” Gov. Brian Kemp said during his State of the State address last month. |

Joshua Prince, a Pennsylvania attorney who specializes in firearms law, said the ATF operation at King’s farm could lead investigators into a murky area. It’s not clear, he said, how many firearms an individual would have to sell in order for that person to be considered a firearms dealer. The ATF’s own website said licenses are required for individuals who “repetitively buy and sell firearms with the principal motive of making a profit” but not for the “occasional sales of firearms from your personal collection.”
“It’s so vague, and that’s going to be the government’s biggest hurdle,” Prince said. “It could turn out that they just say ‘Listen, don’t do this again.’ ” |

Chicago’s cesspool of violence worsens by the day. Sadly, even the innocent serve as backstops for bad guys’ errant shots on a regular basis in America’s largest open-air shooting gallery. Among the latest victims; Bobbye Johnson, a 55-year-old grandmother who was hit by an armed security guard’s errant round fired from four blocks away.
The liquor store security guard had opened fire on a suspect who was over a block away at the time after an altercation.
Did we mention the so-called security guard, Victor Brown, 34, reportedly had prior convictions not only for armed robbery, but domestic battery, too? And reports say he had multiple current warrants for his arrest in Wisconsin. |

I’ve had the pleasure of swapping between a handful of test pocketknives for the last several months. I know, hard life. Who doesn’t love a good blade? I mean, would you turn down a box of free knives offered to you for testing?
Naturally, the first thing I did when I got my own free box was pull out the coolest-looking blades. There were some sweet CobraTec and Templar OTF knives that spit out the blade with just the push of a lever. Then, of course, there were some classic folders. The fun lasted for about an hour, but you do have to leave your house occasionally. (I’ve heard it’s often frowned on to carry around a box of random knives when you do that). |

This week, more legislation was introduced by anti-gun legislators. SB 915, seeking to ban gun shows on state property and AB 1869, to increase penalties on unserialized firearms.
Senate Bill 915, similar to last year’s Senate Bill 264 before it was heavily amended to only the OC Fairgrounds, bans county and state officers, employees, operators, lessees or licensees from entering into any agreement to allow for the sale of any firearm, firearm parts, or ammunition on property that is owned, leased, occupied or operated by the state or county. This imposes a one-size-fits-all restriction upon all jurisdictions in the whole state, to prevent them from deciding how to use their venues. |
