"A state Senate committee is questioning a bill that would give nearly blanket immunity to gun owners whose weapons are used in crimes. It would be one of the broadest immunity laws for gun owners in the nation. Under the bill, the only gun owners liable for lawsuits would be those who give their weapon to someone else, knowing that person is going to commit a crime. Supporters say it's not fair for gun owners to be held accountable when a criminal breaks into a house and steals a gun later used in a crime. Opponents of the bill say it would allow gun owners to be negligent with their weapons and still not be held accountable." ... |

A Miami-bound flight returned to the Turks and Caicos on Thursday after the flight crew discovered a passenger carrying a loaded handgun, police said.
Liz Williams, who owns and operates an airport gift shop, said she accidentally carried her gun onto the American Airlines Flight 464 without declaring it, according to police.
Williams alerted flight attendants just after the plane took off from the Caribbean island, and was questioned by police upon returning to Providenciales.
Police did not immediately file any charges against her.
After a three-hour delay, the flight took off again for Miami. |

"Siding with gun-rights advocates, the Virginia Senate yesterday rejected efforts to extend on-the-spot police checks to people who buy firearms at gun shows."
"Sen. Henry L. Marsh III, D-Richmond, said his measure, which was defeated 24-15, would help cut gun crime in violent cities, such as his. He urged senators to put the 'safety of our community' ahead of the interests of firearms proponents."
------- What the disingenuous Mr. Marsh won't say is that Richmond has some of the toughest gun laws in Virginia, that it's the home of Project Exile and that it's crime-ridden to the core. "A bill that recently passed out of the Illinois Senate Judiciary Committee is being described as an 'acid test' for legislators on the issue of the right to self-defense."
"Earlier this week, SB2165 cleared the Judiciary Committee with strong bipartisan support. The bill, introduced by Sen. Ed Petka (R-Plainfield), provides a person with an affirmative defense against violations of local gun bans if that person uses a banned gun to defend themselves or others against an aggressor."
"Petka introduced the legislation in response to a recent self- defense shooting in Wilmette, ILL. In that incident, a homeowner shot and wounded a late night intruder in his home.
