New York politicians said we would be safe. Democrats told us to register our guns so the criminals would be disarmed.

Last week, a convicted felon shot police officers in New York City. We were told this couldn’t happen because of New York’s strict gun laws.

We were fools to believe the old lies, and we’d be bigger fools to believe the New York politicians now.

Marquette County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Wiese restated his position on the proposed Second Amendment Sanctuary County Resolution at Feb. 4’s meeting of the Marquette County Board of Commissioners.

After the Marquette County Board of Commissioners denied a public proposal to declare Marquette County a Second Amendment Sanctuary County, members of the Marquette County Second Amendment Sanctuary County group asked the county sheriff and prosecutor to declare they would not enforce unconstitutional firearms laws.

Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt and Wiese released a response rejecting the proposal stating that the proposed resolution was not legally enforceable.

State lawmakers and a gun rights group on Tuesday called for changes to Michigan's terrorism law after a Lake Superior State University student was charged for posting a photo of his rifle on social media and saying it would make “snowflakes melt.”

Lucas Gerhard, 20, faces the charge of making a terrorist threat over an incident that occurred in August. The maximum sentence for a conviction on that charge is 20 years in prison.

The night before returning to the school for his junior year, Gerhard sent a photo of his newly purchased AR-15 rifle to a group of friends on Snapchat. The text said: “Takin this bad boy up, this outta make the snowflakes melt, aye? And I mean snowflakes as in snow.”

California prosecutors have dropped a murder charge against a woman accused of stabbing her date to death — concluding that the woman acted in self-defense in light of troubling evidence found in the deceased's home.

Amber Angelovic, 24, was accused of murdering Derek Valentine, 32, in his Costa Mesa home three years ago, according to The Associated Press. But evidence uncovered during the discovery process has indicated that the killing was in self-defense, Orange County prosecutors said Tuesday – leading to authorities filing to dismiss charges for lack of evidence.

Tomorrow, the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee is scheduled to consider Senate Bill 422, legislation that would significantly increase the training requirements for obtaining a license to carry a firearm for self-defense. Having only recently repealed the Handgun Permit Review Board, SB 422 is proof that anti-gun lawmakers want to make it even harder for Maryland residents to obtain a carry permit.

CA: There Are Many Second Amendment Supporters in California

The current political leadership in California has a well-earned reputation for outright hostility to the Second Amendment and to those Golden State citizens who wish to exercise their right to keep and bear arms. But the California landscape—political, social and cultural—is large and diverse, and contrary to what some might think, there is Second Amendment support in the state.

Consider for example, that the police department in the city of Murrieta, southeast of Los Angeles, recently announced that the concealed-carry permit process there would become less expensive. The standard background check for a carry permit had cost Murrieta residents approximately $300, but now the city itself will pay for the expense.

The Keyser City Council passed a resolution Wednesday taking a stand for their citizens’ gun rights.

Council member Eric Murphy presented a resolution to his fellow city officials asking them to approve the statement declaring the City of Keyser a Second Amendment Sanctuary.

Clarifying that the resolution “is not a law,” Murphy said the statement would be a symbolic gesture opposing any future attempt by state or federal government to regulate gun ownership.

Murphy’s introduction of the resolution came just two weeks after the Mineral County Commission took a similar stand, declaring the county a Second Amendment Sanctuary.

It’s easy for Charles Thomas to take shots at me for things I didn’t say. I did NOT say, as he suggests, that the Second Amendment protects only the use of firearms in existence in the 18th century. I said, as did Justice Antonin Scalia in District of Columbia v. Heller, that the Second Amendment protects only the sorts of weapons in common use when the Second Amendment was adopted.

The Another Voice piece in the Jan. 28 Buffalo News castigates News columnist Rod Watson for his recent tongue-in-cheek column criticizing gun control policies and anti-gun mentalities in New York State.

In their essay, the writers stand against guns in homes and schools, at one point stating that advocating for more firearms in schools is “against all common sense.” The writers apparently missed the recent self-defense shooting in the Texas church where an armed citizen took quick action and saved lives.

Clips from a 2015 speech Michael Bloomberg gave at the Aspen Institute should be playing on mainstream news channels just as often as Bloomberg’s campaign ads.

“95 percent of your murders—murderers and murder victims fit one M.O. You can just take the description, Xerox it, and pass it out to all the cops,” Bloomberg said. “They are male, minorities, 16 to 25. That’s true in New York. That’s true in virtually every city…. And the way you get the guns out of the kids’ hands is to throw them up against the wall and frisk them.”

The resolutions are designed to prohibit any state or federal law from infringing on county residents legally getting firearms.

“These gun laws save lives,” North Carolinians Against Gun Violence executive director Becky Ceartas said.

The group is asking local governments to remove the resolutions or vote them down.

“We need to keep our state’s gun laws, enforce them strongly and pass new gun laws to protect North Carolinian from gun laws,” Ceartas said.

Joe Biden doesn't get why gun rights are a bulwark against tyranny

Yes, of course, critics are right that civilian gun owners wouldn’t be able to overthrow completely a government willing to fully deploy a vast, expansive, and technologically elite military force. But that’s not the point. Our founders believed that every man has the fundamental right to resist tyranny.

Furthermore, one doesn’t need to defeat the government in armed civil war for an armed populace to still serve as a bulwark to tyranny. What matters is that citizens can put up a fight. An armed populace dramatically increases the cost of imposing and maintaining tyranny.

On Jan. 20, as Americans remembered civil rights hero Martin Luther King Jr., an estimated 10,000 people peacefully rallied in Richmond, Virginia, to protest the recent introduction of highly contentious gun control bills into the state Legislature.

Motivated in part by the “Second Amendment Sanctuary” movement that has seen more than 100 Virginia counties and cities pass measures denouncing—and in some cases, preemptively refusing to enforce—constitutionally suspect gun laws, some Virginians at the rally began chants of “We will not comply.”

A Southwest Florida county is taking a stand and says it will protect people’s second amendment right to bear arms. Desoto County just became a gun sanctuary county on Wednesday.

Commissioners in Desoto County voted unanimously on Wednesday to approve a plan that stipulates all gun laws currently in place, including red flag laws, will remain. WINK News talked with the commissioner who created the resolution. He told us the decision is a way of stopping unconstitutional state and federal laws from affecting people in Desoto County. That is something community members appreciate.

Like all would-be tyrants, as soon as Virginia Democrats took power following the last election, they began an all-out assault on the right to keep and bear arms, unleashing a package of gun-control measures intended to strip Virginians of their right to defend themselves.

The newest proposed measures include a ban on “assault weapons” such as the AR-15 and AK-47 rifles, magazines holding more than 12 rounds, and sound suppressors (“silencers”). That bill passed the House of Delegates yesterday.
