I rarely concealed carry my 1911; it's still typically close by and is my home defense pistol.

I still argue shotguns are the better home defense weapon due to the lower chance of over-penetration.

In the world of magnum hunting cartridges, none are more ubiquitous than the 7mm Remington Magnum and 300 Winchester Magnum.

These two belted magnum cartridges have been at odds with each other since their release in the 1960’s as they both offer extremely impressive downrange performance that surpassed the most popular hunting rounds of the day, like the 30-06 Springfield.

The National Rifle Association is deeply troubled, but it still dominates American gun politics. According to the latest round of internal documents obtained by The Reload, the NRA lost more than one million members over the last four years. That precipitous drop in membership has spearheaded a substantial decline in revenue over the same period. NRA revenues peaked in 2016 when the group brought in more than $366 million. Through November 2022, the group brought in just $186 million. As a result, it has been forced to operate on a greatly diminished budget and is now smaller than it has been since 2012 when internal documents show the group had 4 million members.

For the Michigan lawmakers leading the charge to pass gun safety legislation, curbing gun violence is personal.

State Sen. Rosemary Bayer, D-Keego Harbor, who heads the Firearm Safety and Violence Prevention Caucus, lost her childhood neighbor and her cousin to suicide. "Both of them died by firearm," she said. Bayer also served as the state senator for Oxford during the 2021 shooting rampage that left four dead and seven injured, including a teacher.

State Rep. Brenda Carter, D-Pontiac, helps lead the caucus with Bayer, and her family has also been touched by gun violence. Carter's nephew died on the way to a store in Grand Rapids when she said he found himself in the way of some bullets.

A bill that would remove the requirement for a concealed handgun permit in Nebraska was heard in the Unicameral’s judiciary committee on Jan. 26. Currently, state law requires that an individual pass a background check, submit a $100 permit fee and complete a gun safety course to obtain a concealed carry permit. LB 77, introduced by Gordon Sen. Tom Brewer, would waive those requirements.

Lawmakers in Washington state are weighing bills to place new restrictions on the sale and transfer of guns. As the Evanston Police Department and local gun control activists continue pursuing efforts to stop gun violence, Everytown seeks to hold manufacturers responsible for the effects of the presence of guns in American communities, according to the study.

As President Joe Biden continues his near-daily call for a ban on semi-automatic firearms, new research shows that he is quickly losing public support for his scheme. In his State of the Union address, Biden again called for a ban on so-called “assault weapons”—the term he and other gun-ban advocates use for common semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns owned by millions of Americans and safely used for self-defense, sport shooting, hunting and competition.

The National Rifle Association held a Board of Directors (BOD) meeting on January 6, 2023 and presented financial reports which included a projection of $205M in revenue for 2022 and a proposed budget of $230M for 2023. The forecast of $230M in revenue for 2023 was presented without a business plan or justification and is wholly unrealistic with the downward trends in membership and other revenue streams. The NRA’s projections are unbelievable and would not be accepted in the real world as a viable plan.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them. — Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States; With a Preliminary Review of the Constitutional History of the Colonies and States before the Adoption of the Constitution [Boston, 1833].
