A few decades ago turkey hunters used the same shotgun to drop a tom that they used to hunt ducks, doves, and upland game. But times have changed and now manufacturers are making specialized gobbler guns. The new generation of turkey shotguns feature adjustable synthetic stocks, lost-in-the-woods camo dips, shorter barrels, specialized chokes, and upgraded sights and optics. All these upgrades are designed to help you shoot more accurately and effectively at longer ranges. If you’re in the market for a new gobbler gun this spring, here eight can’t-miss options. |

Revolution was brewing in Cuba during early 1898. The Cuban people sought their freedom from oppressive Spanish rule. Certain American “expansionists” saw opportunity in the midst of the ongoing fighting in Cuba. Reluctantly, President William McKinley prepared for a war to protect tenuous American interests in the Caribbean. |

Hunters on safari often opt for classic walnut but I prefer a synthetic stock, because the daily grind of climbing in and out of a rollbar-encased hunting vehicle many times daily can turn a wood stock into something that looks like a buck rub. The Kimber Hunter is easy to carry, accurate and virtually indestructible thanks to its vaunted 84M action, 22-inch stainless barrel, adjustable trigger and synthetic stock. It’s a chance to own a genuine Kimber for about $700. |

Imagine concealed hand guns on school grounds like Fruita Monument and Pomona Elementary. A proposed bill in Denver would allow this. The argument is that if there is an active shooter situation in a rural community, it could take a while for police to respond, and having someone armed legally would protect the kids and staff. The idea of guns in schools, some people think it's necessary. |

A story in Tuesday’s Seattle Times that blames “gun violence” for 75 percent of homicides in Washington State’s King County could serve as a learning tool for Second Amendment activists across the country because, while perpetuating a misconception about crime, it also undercuts one of the popular arguments of the gun prohibition lobby.
Rights activists have long criticized the dominant media for using the term “gun violence” when the crime is not the gun’s fault, but falls on the perpetrator. It’s the “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” principle. |

Advocating for a package of regulations that he described as commonsense checks against loose federal gun laws, Governor Phil Murphy visited Cherry Hill Tuesday for a panel discussion convened by New Jersey Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald (D, NJ-6). Strict laws have kept New Jersey’s per-capita gun death rate at half the national average, Greenwald said, and the state can do more to curb the influence of a national culture where mass shootings are still on the rise. |

Behind the scenes, a gun industry lobbyist provided comments that were directly incorporated into an internal memo at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to newly disclosed documents -- a white paper that suggested the agency peel back a number of gun regulations. The white paper was produced by Acting ATF Deputy Director Ronald B. Turk and dated on President Donald Trump's inauguration day, January 20, 2017. It says the agency should consider allowing gun dealers to sell across state lines, loosen restrictions on gun noise suppressors, and pull back on its scrutiny of gun shops. |

Of the 34 Senate seats up for grabs this November, 26 of them are currently held by Democrats. And of those, at least nine are considered competitive, depending on who's doing the counting. Five of those are in states that went for Trump in 2016 by 18% or more, which means those Dem incumbents have a tough electoral row to hoe. But of all the endangered Senate Democrats, none of them is threatened more than West Virginia's Joe Manchin. |

A pre-Hurricane Irma homicide case in Key West in which an Ohio man died from a slashed throat and a second man was left bloody and seriously injured remains an open and unresolved case. “There’s a strong indication this is a self-defense situation,” said State Attorney Dennis Ward on Tuesday. “We’re not going to take it to the grand jury.” |

Twenty years after police departments began using stun guns, also known as electronic control devices, questions remain about how they're used. The devices have gained near universal acceptance among American police agencies, but there are concerns that officers could be too quick to grab their Taser. A U.S. Department of Justice report cautioned that "their ease of use and popularity among officer raise the specter of overuse." |

Westchester County Executive George Latimer, a Democrat, has signed a bill into law that would prevent gun shows from being held on county-owned property. The approval comes just after the Westchester County Board of Legislators, BOL, passed the bill in a 12-5 vote on Feb. 5. With his signature, county officials have officially codified an existing executive order to ban gun shows on county property that Latimer made earlier this year just days into his new role as county executive. |
