Most of us have come of age with the AR and with modern carbine doctrine teaching the use of the rifle in place of a pistol since it provides a higher hit probability and increased power. This usually includes focus on multiple shots, reloads and other handgun-like manipulations. While this has its place, it’s a dramatic departure from the historical use of the rifle as a powerful weapon capable of delivering a single, dispositive shot. I’ve generally been in the black rifle camp, but a recent trip to Gunsite Academy made me rethink what we really need in a rifle. Hedging my bets, I took two guns, a black gun and a traditional bolt action.

During a recent trial, the prosecution questioned the defendant about the ammunition loaded in his AR-15. This produced a comment from the defendant where he stated, “…a bullet is a bullet.” If you were watching, you probably immediately disagreed, as did the prosecutor. If you’re a frequent reader of this magazine, particularly this column, you know that variances in the terminal performance of different bullets can be extreme. You’re also probably of the opinion that if you have a firearm for personal protection, the type of ammunition you load it with is critical. |

Senators Theresa Gavarone and Terry Johnson have introduced a bill to prevent gun owners from being charged with fees or forced to buy liability insurance as a precondition for gun ownership. Recently, San Jose, CA, passed the first U.S. law requiring all gun owners to purchase liability insurance and pay an annual fee. Touted as a measure to reduce violence, it is actually a thinly-veiled attack on the Second Amendment. |

The clown prince of American politics is back in the headlines. During a campaign stop in Tyler, Texas, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke shared his new position on firearms. According to the noted gun confiscation proponent, he’s no longer hell bent on grabbing guns. The failed presidential candidate told those gathered, “I’m not interested in taking anything from anyone. What I want to make sure that we do is defend the Second Amendment.” |

It has become axiomatic that, when we write about Joe Biden commenting on guns, we will be reporting that he has uttered something patently false. In fact, there are usually several things that he gets completely wrong, and often the things he gets wrong are things he repeatedly gets wrong. And it’s not just us, or others in the pro-gun community, who are calling out the president for being wrong when it comes to guns, laws, or even our nation’s history. Even some in the legacy media, who generally have no love for the Second Amendment, simply cannot let Biden’s ridiculous statements go unchallenged. |

A new ad from 34N22, a pro Herschel Walker Super PAC in Georgia is targeting Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) in a rather clever way, by using his own words against him. The entirety of the one minute ad from 34N22 uses the script from a Warnock re-election ad. While Warnock's ad touts his role as a pastor, it also claims "I see you, I hear you, I am you." The reality, though, as expressed in the 34N22 ad, is that Warnock is doing anything but. |

Joe Biden’s “Valentine” to American gun owners is something of a wilted dandelion; another call for Congress to act on his gun control agenda including so-called “universal background checks,” a ban on so-called “assault weapons and high-capacity magazines” and repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act protecting firearms manufacturers from junk lawsuits. |

‘Rust’ shooting prompts bill requiring actors to take gun safety training,” NM Political Report observes. The bill is the “brainchild” of State Senator Cliff Pirtle, a Roswell Republican who claims he was “heartbroken” by the killing and wants to mandate actors and personnel who handle firearms on movie sets take a Department of Game and Fish gun safety course. |

After being amended multiple times over the last year-and-a-half, an omnibus anti-gun bill is headed to the desk of Gov. Phil Scott. S.30, by Sen. Phil Baruth, started out as a “location restriction,” banning firearms in hospitals. However, the bill has morphed into much more than that, adding multiple layers from the wish list of anti-gun politicians in Montpelier. It is important that NRA Members and Second Amendment supporters contact Governor Scott and ask him to VETO S.30!

A bombshell report from Fox News that “Former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe met with Special Counsel John Durham on more than one occasion and told him there was evidence in intelligence to support the indictments of ‘multiple people’ in his investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe,” is rivaled only by the apparent news blackout on the report by liberal media.

John Moses Browning's most famous Valentine's gift to gun owners was U.S. Patent 984,519 for a handgun later known just as the 1911.
The 15-page patent application, filed Feb. 17, 1910, included 38 points of claim and three sheets of drawings, building on Browning's previous 1897 patent (#580,924) for a magazine pistol. |

California Attorney General Rob Bonta last Friday issued an arbitrary note declaring a series of "featureless" rifles by a local gunmaker to be illegal.
Bonta, a Democrat who has gone on record in support of increasingly strict gun control laws and regulations, fired off a cease-and-desist letter to Orange County-based firearm manufacturer Juggernaut Tactical, saying the company's California-compliant F-9, F-10, and F-15 rifles are, at least in the eyes of the state DOJ,
