"No, perfect honesty will force you to acknowledge that law-abiding gun owners are not a threat to society, but armed criminals are. Perfect honesty will force you to acknowledge that the vast majority of violent crimes are committed by violent felons, not those who take the time and trouble to get safety classes, get concealed carry permits and jump through other various bureaucratic hoops just to be able to exercise their constitutional right. Perfect honesty also would force you to acknowledge that law-abiding gun owners never posed any threat to public safety. Paranoia is what might force you to assert, without any concrete, factual evidence whatsoever, that 'the threat to public safety these pro-gun laws pose probably far outweighs whatever value they may hold in preserving individual liberties.'" ... |

"What’s more, thousands of KKK members met in Monroe met from time to time. After burning copious crosses, they hopped in their cars, honking horns, shooting off guns, and threatening to kill people. The object again: racial terror."
"During that time Williams had personally started organizing armed squads of black people for self-defense. ... And when push came to shove back in Monroe, when the Klan came raging into the black section of Newton one night, they were met by a cordon of armed black men. The Klansmen panicked and fled every which way. And this was the last time they rampaged through Newton." ... |

"Our first gun review here at The Remnant starts off with a high-quality assault rifle and favorite of many. While the AR-15 is an extremely popular and well-known rifle among sport shooting enthusiast, Colt’s 9mm AR-15 Carbine is often overlooked compared to its .223 sibling. By chambering a lightweight, smaller rifle with a common pistol round, Colt succeeded in reducing recoil to almost nil. Standard magazines come in 25- and 32-round capacity, allowing the shooter a large base from which to take on multiple targets in a short period of time. With overall length a little over 3', the optional replacement of the solid stock with a collapsible stock commonly seen on Colt’s M4 Carbine adds the potential to reduce rifle length by 5'." ... |

"Jacksie King and Larry Tillman lived only seven blocks from each other on Gaty Avenue, but they lived worlds apart."
"'Our family is sorry that he lost his life,' said King's daughter, Pamela P. Clark. 'But he made the choice to take his own life by not leaving and by climbing into her home. From the appearance of the door, if he had gained entry to the house, the outcome may have been different."
"Last week, the 87-year-old King pulled the trigger of a gun that family members gave her to protect herself and fatally shot Tillman, 49. He pried the security bars off her window and was trying to come in. His body was found on the front porch the next morning when Clark arrived to check on her mother." ... |

"Ben Westlund comes to the governor's race from the middle of nowhere."
"It is not just that he lives outside of Bend, the town Neil Goldschmidt famously insulted when he rejected a debate there in his 1986 gubernatorial campaign. It is that Westlund comes from an increasingly lonely place in Oregon politics, the political middle." ...
"Westlund is his own political creation. He speaks with equal passion about the Second Amendment rights of gun owners and the civil rights of gays and lesbians. He's a lung cancer survivor who no longer has the time or patience, if he ever did, to keep putting off Oregon's biggest issues, including its school funding crisis and health care inequities." ... |

... "The word 'gun' has a senseless negative connotation. It is not 'cocaine' or 'homicide.' People conjure up images of street shootings, hostage situations and car hijackings. We have scared ourselves into believing one more gun creates one more problem rather than a straightforward resolution. Tell that to a beat cop in New York City."

"A bill to close a loophole in the state law that prevents the release of lists of people who have permits to carry concealed handguns was embraced Wednesday by the state Senate Judiciary Committee."

FULL TEXT BELOW:
The Georgia House of Representatives voted 165-1 Wednesday to tighten the requirements for obtaining and renewing a concealed weapons permit.
The bill requires background checks for license renewals, while current law allows a local court to request them at its discretion. The bill, supported by both gun control groups and the National Rifle Association, also bars pistol carry permits from illegal immigrants, illegal-drug users and mentally challenged people. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Some people think that the Second Amendment is an outdated relic of an earlier time. Doubtless some also think that constitutional protections of other rights are outdated relics of earlier times. We The People own those rights regardless, unless and until We The People repeal them. For those who believe it to be outdated, the Second Amendment provides a good test of whether their allegiance is really to the Constitution of the United States, or only to their preferences in public policies and audiences. The Constitution is law, not vague aspirations, and we are obligated to protect, defend, and apply it. If the Second Amendment were truly an outdated relic, the Constitution provides a method for repeal. The Constitution does not furnish the federal courts with an eraser." --9th Circuit Court Judge Andrew Kleinfeld, dissenting opinion in which the court refused to rehear the case while citing deeply flawed anti-Second Amendment nonsense (Nordyke v. King; opinion filed April 5, 2004) |
