Former Congressman and Republican gubernatorial candidate Matt Salmon today announced the endorsement of Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL) co-founder and president Dave Kopp:

“I’m very proud to receive Dave’s endorsement in this race. From promoting public policy to pushing back against the gun-control lobby, his lifelong advocacy for Arizonans’ Constitutionally guaranteed rights through the AzCDL has made a real difference in our state. Gun ownership empowers Arizonans to protect themselves and their families, and as governor I will always stand with those who are on the side of our Constitution,” said Salmon.

Today, the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee voted 8-5 to pass House Bill 272, the constitutional carry bill. It will now advance to the House floor, where it will be considered tomorrow morning. The House still needs to first approve a budget isolation resolution (BIR) for it. Please contact your state representative and ask them to SUPPORT a BIR for HB 272, decline any amendments, and also SUPPORT it on the floor.

Constitutional carry strengthens Alabamians’ right to self-defense by allowing any law-abiding adult who is at least 21-years-old and legally eligible to obtain a carry permit, to carry a handgun without first having to obtain government permission.

Washington moved a step closer Feb. 14 to barring firearms where school boards and city councils meet, as well as where ballots are counted.

The state House approved legislation barring “open carry” at buildings where elected city and county leaders hold their meetings, and both open and concealed carry where school boards meet and vote tallying occurs.

Majority Democrats pushed through House Bill 1630 on a 57-41 party-line vote, contending the restrictions will keep those places free of intimidation from armed people. It now goes to the Senate for consideration.

A unique settlement that pays $73 million to the families of Sandy Hook school shooting victims is influencing the way guns are marketed in the United States—and may inspire lawsuits in other industries, including social media, according to Northeastern law professor Richard Daynard.

“At the Public Health Advocacy Institute, we’re interested in seeing whether cases can be brought and how to bring them,” says Daynard, who serves as president of the institute. “This may well reinvigorate investigations by lawyers and public-interest groups around the country into the use of state consumer-protection laws to protect people from a variety of corporate misdeeds.”

...Larry Krasner, a reform-minded Democrat, questions the effectiveness of two commonly proposed solutions to this problem: restricting the supply of firearms, a strategy favored by many Democrats, and prosecuting people for illegal gun possession, which has bipartisan support. The latter approach, Krasner says, is not only ineffective but unjust and racially discriminatory.

As should be clear from Krasner's dismay at a state and city "awash in guns," he is not saying these things because he is reflexively skeptical of gun control or anxious to protect the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment. He reaches these conclusions based on the meager benefits and substantial costs of two widely popular crime fighting strategies.

“This is a very fact dependent analysis,” DA Sunday said.

While each case is different, DA Sunday applies the same standard to each self-defense claim.

“Did the person reasonably believe that they were in immediate danger of death or serious bodily injury?” he said.

“That's a big deal when you pull that trigger, especially when you are pointing it at another human being,” said Patrick Connaghan, CEO of 717 Armory.

Assembly Bill 518, sponsored by Representative Rick Gundrum (R-58), passed on a voice vote. It grants universal recognition to concealed carry permits held by non-Wisconsin residents, issued by any other state. It repeals the requirement that such recognition be only for permits from states on an arbitrary list maintained by the Wisconsin Department of Justice. This reform recognizes that visitors traveling to Wisconsin should not be left defenseless simply by crossing a state line.

Geno Davon Lester, 33, of Sellers was found not guilty by a jury Wednesday in a 2016 deadly shooting, Solicitor Ed Clements confirmed.

Lester said that the shooting was self-defense and he used the stand your ground as his defense. He did not have to take the stand.

South Carolina's stand your ground law is known as the Castle Doctrine, based on the notion that your home is your castle and you have the right to defend it.

A Detroit-area man who fatally shot a young woman on his porch will get a new sentencing hearing after the Michigan Supreme Court on Wednesday unanimously threw out part of his conviction.

The court said Ted Wafer’s constitutional rights were violated when a jury was allowed to convict him of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the 2013 death of Renisha McBride.

“We are aware of no cases in this state in which defendants were convicted of and received punishments for both second-degree murder and statutory involuntary manslaughter on the basis of a single killing,” Justice David Viviano wrote.

The Indiana House is playing a game of Russian Roulette with the safety of its citizens hanging in the balance.

On Jan. 12, the House approved HB 1077 by a vote of 64-29. That bill would eliminate the need for handgun permits in Indiana. The bill is currently sitting idle in the Senate, waiting for a committee hearing.

Authored by Rep. Ben Smalz. HB1077 co-authored and sponsored by, among others, Southern Indiana legislators Karen Engleman, Zach Payne and Erin Houchin.

Every single item in the vicinity of a defensive gun use will be heavily scrutinized. If you are forced to shoot a home invader, trust me, the “I don’t dial 911” poster on your front door or the “never mind the dog, beware of the owner” poster on your front gate will be used against you. After all, in the mind of the average jury member, such a poster suggests that the home is occupied by an individual who is just waiting until they get a chance to drop the hammer on some hapless bum who proves unlucky enough to enter that particular house.

Today, House Bill 133 was defeated in a vote of 3-8 in the House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee. This Bloomberg-style anti-gun bill is being pushed at both the state and federal level, seeking to criminalize private transfers absent the involvement of a licensed firearms dealer. NRA thanks the committee for swiftly defeating this bill that would have infringed upon the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.

Touting the endorsements of the Texas State Rifle Association and the National Rifle Association, Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Wednesday told supporters in Waco that Texans have a “God given right to self defense” and that he is the only one who stands in the way of a socialist taking away guns from private citizens.

“That right to self-defense is enshrouded in the United States Constitution in the Second Amendment,” the governor said, “In this particular election, we need to understand, my likely opponent, Beto O’Rourke, Robert Francis O’Rourke, has threatened your God given Second Amendment rights by threatening to come and take your guns.”

Gun shop owners say people are handling their own safety instead.

“They have to take their own precautions and do what they feel is necessary to keep their families safe,” said Jeremy Ball. He’s the owner of Sharp Shooting Indoor Range & Gun Shop.

He says his gun sales haven’t gone down since the start of the pandemic. High sales are the “new normal.” Last year, the nation saw the second highest amount of guns sold on record. At Ball’s shop, he says he seeing more first time gun owners buying small compact guns they can keep on them.

“We’re still seeing lots and lots of sales in small compact guns that people are using as carry weapons,” he said.

Banning ‘no-knock’ search warrants won’t stop deadly confrontations between cops, people

To avoid lethal confrontations like these, reformers frequently propose banning or restricting no-knock warrants. But the Taylor case shows that solution is inadequate.

The Louisville cops banged on the door of Taylor’s apartment for about 30 seconds before breaking in and claimed they also announced themselves. She and Walker still did not realize the intruders were police officers.

What’s needed is a fundamental reevaluation of “dynamic entry” tactics, which should be reserved for life-or-death emergencies. Routinely deploying them when police execute search warrants is an invitation to tragedies like Locke’s senseless death.

No Shots Fired in 9 of 10 Defensive Gun Uses (DGUs)

Multiple studies (18 or so that I know of) put the number of annual defensive gun uses in the United States between 100,000 and 3.6 million. So if you throw out the highest and lowest survey numbers, the average sits at about 2 million instances where someone uses a firearm in self-defense.

No matter what number you accept, it's clear people use firearms every day to defend life.

One of the many reasons the actual number of DGUs is hard to nail down is that around 95% don't involve a single fired shot. Because of this, most go unreported to police. The media barely covers incidents where someone shoots a gun in self-defense. They certainly don't report on DGUs with no shots fired.

At the center of the case is Maryland’s 2013 Firearms Safety Act, which designated specified firearms as assault weapons and prohibited them from being transported into the state or from being possessed, sold, transferred or purchased in the state.

Mountain State Legal Foundation is a Colorado-based nonprofit that is a project of the Center to Keep and Bear Arms, which works to preserve private property rights and advance litigation to protect Americans’ right to self-defense.

“Many lower courts have found ‘creative’ ways to sidestep the Supreme Court’s clear rulings on gun rights, but the Fourth Circuit’s test is among the worst,” CKBA’s Cody J. Wisniewski said in a news release.

Armando Alvarez said that when he and his family stumbled upon the robbery, the robber was at least 100 feet (30.48 meters) away from Earls, but Earls fired at him at least four times. The family’s truck tried to speed through the scene, but Earls fired at the vehicle while standing about 10 feet (3.05 meters) away, hitting the gas tank, Alvarez said.

Police say Earls fired at the truck thinking the robbery suspect had possibly climbed into it.

Alvarez said he told his family to duck amid the gunfire. Everyone got down, except Arlene, who was wearing headphones.

“’Duck down Arlene.’ I didn’t scream loud enough. I didn’t know she had her earphones on,” said Gwen Alvarez, ...

The new bill if passed would require any rifle carried openly in the state to be attached to a sling and that the rifle must be pointed in a safe position with the barrel/muzzle pointed down. Right now the current law doesn't specify the manner or condition that the rifle must be carried in. (SB-1366) would address this and clarify the proper and legal means a rifle has to be carried openly. Originally the bill stated the rifle had to be either on the back or on the shoulder. However, this has been changed due to the fact that the most common way people carry a rifle is across the chest with the barrel pointed down in the "low ready" position.

Here’s a textbook definition of irony.

A Louisville, Kentucky, “activist” who championed gun control and who promoted violence prevention to kids was arrested on charges that he shot at a Democratic mayoral candidate on Monday.

According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, police arrested 21-year-old Quintez Brown on Monday after he allegedly opened fire at the campaign headquarters of Democrat Craig Greenberg.

There is no reason to credit Beto’s purported change of heart. Further, as Beto tries to remake himself, it is instructive to recall his anti-gun positions.

During the September 12, 2019 Democratic presidential debate, Beto was asked about his proposal to confiscate commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms. Beto responded in part by saying, “hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15!” The Beto campaign would go on to sell t-shirts with the anti-gun slogan.

Less than a week later, Beto reiterated his call for gun confiscation on CNN’s Cuomo Prime Time. During an interview, Chris Cuomo asked Beto, “All right, so let’s state the proposition. Are you, in fact, in favor of gun confiscation?” Beto responded with “Yes.”

The Justice Department has sued Missouri in an attempt to stop the enforcement of a measure in the state which deems some federal firearms laws invalid.

In a complaint filed Wednesday, the DOJ claims Missouri House Bill 85 is “invalid” under the Supremacy Clause, which prohibits state governments from passing laws that do not correspond with federal laws.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
For, in principle, there is no difference between a law prohibiting the wearing of concealed arms, and a law forbidding the wearing such as are exposed; and if the former be unconstitutional, the latter must be so likewise. But it should not be forgotten, that it is not only a part of the right that is secured by the constitution; it is the right entire and complete, as it existed at the adoption of the constitution; and if any portion of that right be impaired, immaterial how small the part may be, and immaterial the order of time at which it be done, it is equally forbidden by the constitution. [Bliss vs. Commonwealth, 12 Ky. (2 Litt.) 90, at 92, and 93, 13 Am. Dec. 251 (1822)
