. . . "One balmy May evening back in 2000, Dudley [Hiibel, a 59 year old cowboy from Nevada] was standing around minding his own business when all of a sudden, a policeman pulled-up and demanded that Dudley produce his ID. Dudley, having done nothing wrong, declined. He was arrested and charged with 'failure to cooperate' for refusing to show ID on demand. And it's all on video."

"On the 22nd of March 2004, the U.S. Supreme Court will decide whether Dudley and the rest of us live in a free society, or in a country where we must show "the papers" whenever a cop demands them." ...

SD: Right to Arms in Vehicles Bill “Gutted” in Committee

"Originally, HB 1247 would have repealed the requirement to obtain a permit before carrying a handgun concealed in a vehicle for self-defense. But surprisingly, David Conway, lobbyist for NRA affiliated South Dakota Shooting Sports Association, opposed this pro-gun bill in committee, stating that he had a problem with repealing the permit requirement."

" 'If you’re going to carry in an enclosed motor vehicle, you better have a permit,' Mr. Conway stated." ...

"By destroying HB 1247’s pro-gun Right to Arms in Vehicles language, the Conway amendment helped politicians sidestep the real issue – that bearing arms for self-defense while in your vehicle is a right, not a government granted privilege."

-------
Gee, thanks a lot, NRA. Is this what your lobbyist calls having "a working relationship with state officials" - making concessions to tyrants?

"Last week, a bill was introduced in both chambers of Congress to "limit the jurisdiction of Federal courts in certain cases and promote federalism." The House version is H.R. 3799, and the Senate version is S. 2082. The bill is titled, "The Constitution Restoration Act of 2004." Initial sponsors of the bill include Rep. Robert Aderholt (AL), Rep. Michael Pence (IN), Sen. Richard Shelby (AL), Sen. Zell Miller (GA), Sen. Sam Brownback (KS), and Sen. Lindsey Graham (SC). Even though the introduction of this bill received little national media attention, it is the most important legislation in the last fifty years." ...

Prisoners of war become pretext for a police state

"Pentagon officials' intention to hold hundreds of prisoners captured in the Afghanistan war indefinitely at the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo, Cuba, will soon become untenable for legal and humanitarian reasons."

"Prisoners are being held without charges, and no military tribunals are scheduled. One Pentagon official has said that even if there are tribunals, a convict still might not be released at the end of a sentence if he were deemed too dangerous."

"It is perfectly understandable that the U.S. military would hold prisoners of war with the intention of repatriating them at the end of conflict. But the Pentagon considers the war on terrorism open- ended and detainees as potential terrorists who be held for years without legal process, military or civilian."

"These officials also claim the detainees, now numbering about 650, are not eligible for American constitutional protections because they are being held in Cuba, where no such guarantees exist. Of course, the government also has long contended Guantanamo is U.S. territory."

"While the networks responsible for the present crisis have fought over the nuances of its maintenance and extension, those concerned with losses of liberty and further infringement of rights have prepared. For more than three decades, Libertarians have been organizing based on a simple premise: government's purpose is to protect individual rights."

"A little murder has always been a part of doing business in the southern capital but even by Melbourne standards this killing is right out of hand. The police, who usually watch the wiseguys kill each other with faint amusement, are now taking a special interest in finding the shooters. There's talk of crime commissions and extra budgets for special police Taskforce Purana, set up to investigate. Melbourne may well be the world's most liveable capital, but right now the city's criminal class would certainly disagree."

But the enemies of freedom insist that the answer to increased crime problems in Australia and UK is yet MORE gun control.

"The 14 Maoists had demanded shelter for the night, and were sleeping when the security forces patrol arrived and surrounded them. Although the actual details of the event are unclear, it appears that at least 12 Maoists were shot dead on the spot by the security forces personnel and two were taken into custody, had their hands tied and were later summarily executed."

"Several hundred villagers launched the vigilante attack after an armed gang of 20 robbed about 30 people of money in a string of raids since midday in Lambabil."

"Witnesses said the criminals hauled three women out of home for apparent gangrape, incensing the villagers to kill a gang member instantly."

"The villagers, alerted to the swoop of the bandits by the public address system of the local mosque, carried out the attack with sticks and knives at about 8:30pm."

"Ozzie Hussein was punched and threatened with a gun during the raid on his Music Emporium record shop in Rye Lane, Peckham, on Thursday."

"A young woman in the shop's nail bar was also beaten by the robbers, who eventually fled empty-handed around 7pm."

"The 34-year-old shopkeeper said: 'Two black boys in balaclavas came in and demanded I hand over the cash but I told them I'd banked it already and didn't have any."

"Then they asked for my jewellery and my watch but I refused to hand it over. Everytime I said no they hit the woman again and they were waving the gun about."

"We weren't supposed to shoot our guns in the house, but sometimes our hobby got the better of us. Being committed hunters and more than a little crazy, we tested reloads, new guns and our father's frayed patience."

"Upon hearing an explosion in the basement, our mom would scream. The old man would fling open the door at the top of the stairs and furiously demand that we show ourselves. If all three of us put in an appearance, he would ask if the water heater was OK before slamming the door again. How we lived to adulthood is still a family debate."

"Eventually, we all became cops and our passion for firearms waned. We still shoot, but we're much more responsible about it now. A lot of it has to do with being married to mean women."

"That said, however, the Vagina Warriors’ decision to wrap tape around certain areas on campus to designate them as 'Rape Free Zones' is questionable." ...

"We recognize the Vagina Warriors’ desire to demonstrate campus solidarity for the movement, especially by garnering support from the fraternity community. But it seems premature to declare any area on campus as 'rape-free,' especially as the University has just emerged this year from dozens of attacks by the 'Serial Groper.' Next year, we hope that V-Week’s coordinators will learn from this year’s controversy by eschewing the rape tape in favor of a program with more tangible benefits, such as self-defense workshops in the dorms."

Iroquois West students were never in any danger from an incident involving a student taking a gun to school.

A press release issued from Iroquois West Superintendent Leo Sherman noted that the incident, which occurred Thursday, has been investigated by both school and police authorities.

Illinois State Police reported Friday morning that a 16-year-old juvenile from Onarga was arrested after being found in possession of a long rifle and ammunition on school grounds. That juvenile was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm on government property, possession of a weapon (firearm) and ammunition without a Firearm Owners Identification Card.

The items were located in plain view in the vehicle, which was parked outside the school.

"U.S. national security strategy today is rooted in fear: fear of terrorists, fear of weapons of mass destruction, fear of ricin in the mailbox. For reassurance and protection, as the new budget suggests, the nation is asked to turn to the Department of Defense, the armed services, and the Department of Homeland Security."

"In the long run, however, a national security strategy rooted in fear only begets more fear, not real security. The result of a security policy based on fear, the use of military power abroad and the Patriot Act at home is a growing requirement for more military and more homeland defense."

Drake University and four peace activists were recently subpoenaed to produce records about the National Lawyers Guild before a federal grand jury in Iowa. "Greeley small-business owner Michael Wolsey, 40, believes Americans' civil liberties are being threatened."

"That's where the Greeley Bill of Rights Defense Committee comes in. He organized the group to educate the community about homeland security and terrorism legislation that he says erodes civil liberties."

"The committee is a branch of a larger organization called Bill of Rights Defense Committee, www.bordc.org, of Northampton, Mass."

"Wolsey, owner of Wolsey Construction, said the Patriot Act infringes on civil liberties by giving the government access to citizens' library transactions and computer records. 'We are woefully uneducated on these matters,' Wolsey said."

"Despite crackdowns on underage drinking that have pitted police against students, some students say they still don't know their rights."

"Christopher Carpenter, a media arts freshman, said he wouldn't know what to do if he was confronted by police, or if his rights were violated." ...

"Mary Morgan, a family studies and human development sophomore, said she feels she knows her basic rights, but not the details or exact limits of those rights."

"Morgan said most students don't know their rights. She said schools, especially in the younger grades, should teach students more about their rights, but she feels students have a responsibility too."

The government indoctrination centers called "schools" will never inform children of their rights. If they did that, the kids might start demanding them!

"Lawrence is joining a national debate over the USA Patriot Act and how far cities should go to oppose a law intended to thwart terrorism."

"A coalition of about a dozen residents, calling itself the Lawrence Bill of Rights Defense Committee, wants city commissioners to adopt a resolution calling for the law to be repealed. The resolution will be considered tonight."

"The resolution would direct the city's Police Department not to help federal authorities enforce a law that has been challenged on constitutional grounds."

"Among other things, the resolution would direct the Police Department to 'refrain' from spying on the public or using race, religion or ethnicity in choosing which individuals they investigate."

"The United States' 'war on terror' has been 'extremely damaging' for human rights, and has been used as an excuse by totalitarian regimes to impose oppressive laws, a leading think tank said yesterday."

"The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), traditionally viewed as an establishment body, concluded in a report that issues such as Guantanamo Bay mean that Washington can no longer 'assume a high moral position'."

Countries such as Pakistan and Uzbekistan have brought in so-called anti-terrorist laws insisting that they are not much different to the Patriot Act enacted by the Bush administration, said the report's author, Professor Rosemary Foot.

"A part-time police officer will face charges of indecent exposure and other morals charges for allegedly committing a lewd act outside a local high school Friday morning." ...

"Doyle parked his vehicle near a school entrance at about 8 a.m. After a few minutes, police allege he pulled down his shorts, partially exposed himself, then began to masturbate."

"A teacher, Mike Johnston, approached Doyle’s vehicle and noticed the activity. Upon being discovered, Doyle quickly left the parking lot, driving against traffic to leave, police said."

What a stellar law enforcement officer. If Sarah Brady had her way, guys like these would be the only ones armed in America, while you would be left helpless at the mercy of thugs and perverts (both with badges and without.)

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them. — George Mason, during Virginia's Convention to Ratify the Constitution (1788)
