Jurors have acquitted a man of murder after he argued that he acted in self-defense when he shot a man during a late-night clash involving several people outside a downtown Minneapolis bar.

A Hennepin County District Court jury on Thursday found Kevion J. Gibbs, 23, of West Point, Miss., not guilty on two counts of second-degree intentional murder in connection with the shooting of Deandre I. Smith, 33, of Minneapolis, in a parking lot after leaving Augie's Bar on Hennepin Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. on June 5, 2021.

A gunman killed six people in the southern US state of Mississippi on Friday, prompting President Joe Biden to call again for tightened gun restrictions only days after he pleaded for action following a deadly university shooting.

Police in Mississippi said a man shot and killed a person at a store in the small town of Arkabutla, then went to a nearby house and killed a woman, according to local media.

CNN later reported, citing the county sheriff, that the woman was his ex-wife.

I agree with Congressman Matt Gaetz (R) who introduced a bill to abolish the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also known as the ATF, after a recent controversial ruling that would turn millions of American gun owners into criminals overnight. The ATF issued a new regulation that will classify pistols with stabilizing braces as short-barreled rifles which require a federal firearms license to own under the National Firearms Act. Now the ATF has issued a rule demanding Americans either “register” or “surrender” their lawfully owned firearms of which there are millions in American homes.

A Montgomery County jury failed to reach a verdict in the trial against David Dixon, who is accused of killing Dominique Williams, 32, and 38-year-old James Johnson, after deliberating over two days.

Dixon told authorities he believed both men were breaking into cars and that he was trying to stop them.

San Jose, California, has asked a federal judge for the second time to dismiss a gun rights group's challenge to a city ordinance requiring gun owners to purchase insurance and pay a fee to a non-profit aimed at preventing gun violence.

The city said in a motion filed Thursday that its law remained constitutional even after the U.S. Supreme Court in June issued its ruling in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen, greatly expanding gun rights.

This is a suggested solution for gun control and mass murders that both sides might be able to agree on.

First of all, aside from the military and law enforcement, guns would be allowed only in specific circumstances (see below). Otherwise, anyone found in possession of any type of gun would be charged with a misdemeanor even if no other crime is being committed, spend one weekend in jail, and be fined $1,000. A second offender would be charged with a felony, spend one month in prison, and be fined $10,000. A third offender would be charged with a major felony, spend 20 years in prison, and be fined $100,000. No exceptions.

Legislation to establish a two-week waiting period for gun sales is heading to the full House of Representatives after narrowly advancing Friday through a critical committee.

Supporters of the bill — sponsored by Democratic state Reps. Andrea Romero and Linda Serrato of Santa Fe — said it would provide a cooling-off period to reduce suicide.

They also highlighted research from the Rand Corp., a nonprofit think tank, finding “moderate evidence” that waiting-period laws reduce homicides.

District 3 Sheriffs have recently shared their thoughts on the MN House of Representatives overreaching with Firearms and Ammunition Storage Requirements.

Minnesota state representatives have recently been working on a bill, House File 396, Firearm and Ammunition Storage Requirements.

Recently authorities from District 3 have voiced their opinions on the manner and how they believe the bill infringes on the rights of lawful gun owners, and how the bill is a clear overreach of government and the rights of each person to be secure in their home.

It is the opinion of Sheriffs in district 3, “The bill will have no positive effect on the public.”

Currently there is a statute that addresses negligent storage of Firearms MN 609.666.

On June 7, 2020, Nikolas Fernandez sped in his car toward a crowd of protesters on Capitol Hill. As he approached a makeshift barricade, with people yelling at him to stop, protester Dan Gregory reached through the open window, grabbed the steering wheel and punched Fernandez.

If truth is still the basis of a sound defense, then a letter from 16 state attorneys general to President Joe Biden (D) should—if it gets deserved media attention—help to dispel Biden’s anti-Second Amendment ambitions.

The letter is a reaction to Biden’s comments on our Second Amendment rights in his State of the Union address.

“We write to address your irresponsible and unconstitutional demand that Congress ban firearms commonly used by law-abiding Americans for self-defense.

A bill that would make it a crime to operate a paramilitary training camp in Vermont overwhelmingly passed the state Senate on Friday.

The bill would shut down organizations in Vermont that provide military-style training without government approval, such as the controversial Slate Ridge Inc. in West Pawlet, where Daniel Banyai had been running a firearms training facility without permits from 2017 until last year. Banyai has been at odds with frightened neighbors and the town of Pawlet, which recently shut down his operation, with the help of state courts.

In an effort to defend the Constitution, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced today that he filed suit with a coalition of 25 attorneys general against the Biden Administration’s U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for their unconstitutional, recently implemented rule attempting to outlaw pistol braces.

“As Attorney General, I will defend the Constitution, which includes holding the Biden Administration accountable for blatantly violating the Second Amendment,” said Attorney General Bailey. “I have long held that the Constitution was meant to be a floor, not a ceiling, and the Second Amendment is the amendment that makes all of the others possible.

“Local governments in Oregon can’t declare themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries and ban police from enforcing certain gun laws, a state appeals court decided Wednesday, in the first court case filed over a concept that hundreds of U.S. counties have adopted in recent years,” the San Diego Union Tribune reports.

“The state Court of Appeals ruled that it violates a law giving the state the power to regulate firearms.,” the report elaborates. “The ordinance would effectively, it found, ‘create a “patchwork quilt” of firearms laws in Oregon, where firearms regulations that applied in some counties would not apply in Columbia County,’ something lawmakers specifically wanted to avoid.”

“I look forward to submitting my application to get this (shooting complex) up in the Big Horn Basin,” he added.

A federal judge in Chicago denied a Naperville gun store owner and other plaintiffs a temporary restraining order against the Illinois assault weapons ban.

The ruling, issued by the Seventh Circuit Court, rejected the lawsuit partially on Second Amendment grounds, writing, "Because assault weapons are particularly dangerous weapons and high-capacity magazines are particularly dangerous weapon accessories, their regulation accords with history and tradition. Naperville and Illinois lawfully exercised their authority to control their possession, transfer, sale and manufacture by enacting a ban on commercial sales. That decision comports with the Second Amendment."

A Senate vote Thursday to repeal the state's pistol permit law moved North Carolina residents a step closer to no longer needing a sheriff's permission to buy a handgun.

"Our Second Amendment rights are non-negotiable," bill sponsor Sen. Danny Earl Britt Jr. (R-Robeson) said in a news release about Senate Bill 41. "These are commonsense laws to ensure that the rights of law-abiding citizens are not being infringed."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all — security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again. — EDWARD GIBBON [On ancient Athens]
