"Two of the aggressor's friends joined him and the black man soon found himself in a fight with three men.
A bouncer sent the altercation outside.
The original instigator went to his car to get his pit bull to sic on the black man, who pulled a handgun from his car to use against the dog."
No shots fired, nobody hurt, intended victim safe.

The House Militia & Police Committee's next target is the 1995 law barring Virginians from carrying guns into restaurants that serve alcohol. Groups pushing for repeal of the ban packed the room. They wore tags saying 'Guns Save Lives'. They were armed with righteous claims about the God-given right to carry arms anywhere.

New York Law Journal - The gun industry tried to deliver a one-two punch in State Supreme Court yesterday to New York State's lawsuit seeking reforms to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. But Deputy Attorney General Peter B. Pope could not be budged on his contention that the State's use of a "public nuisance" theory was an appropriate vehicle for imposing reforms on the industry.

Depending on who you believe, a concealed handgun can be one of two things: a tool for emergencies, or "the beginning of a return to the wild west". Both sides cited "statistics" supporting their views.

On gun control, Ashcroft's Republican supporters say he'll pursue an expanded federal role in prosecuting gun crimes — and give less emphasis to pressing for new firearms legislation.
"It has long been a Republican philosophy that gun-toting criminals should do time in jail, as opposed to creating new laws that place the burden on law abiding citizens who want to own guns," says Victoria Toensing, a former Justice Department prosecutor.
