Gun Owners Take a Stand

"The decision of whether or not to own a firearm and whether or not to carry concealed is a personal one. Those who obtain CCW licenses and who feel comfortable carrying in public places are taking a stand against violent crime."

"People who carry concealed put themselves in the unique position of being able to defend themselves and others if faced with a potentially life-threatening violent criminal action. The decision to use force if necessary to save lives is one of conscious responsibility and forthright courage. It means standing up for what is right rather than forfeiting all power to the criminal. It also means standing up when everyone around you acquiesces." ...

"In almost every country where restrictions were placed on civilian ownership of firearms for self-defense, crime rates have soared, including Australia, Canada, and Great Britain. Last fall, after a symposium dealing with firearms law and the Second Amendment took place at the George Mason University Law School in Arlington, VA several of these finding were reported on by the NRA’s ILA, and posted in the American Rifleman."

"Historian Joyce Lee Malcolm noted that the end of a 500-year decline in violent crime in the United Kingdom coincided with the loss of the right to firearms ownership. He states that 'After 50 years of those laws, Scotland, is now the most violent country in the developed world.'" ...

Why the .45 Matters

"Why do American troops prefer the century old .45 caliber pistol to lighter 9mm models. It’s all about 'stopping power.' As far back as 1900, during the fighting against Moslem rebels in the Philippines, there had been complaints of enemy fighters getting shot and continuing to attack. From this experience, the then standard army pistol, a .38 caliber (9.65mm) weapon, was replaced by a .45 caliber (11.4mm) one. In the 1980s, the .45 was in turn replaced by a 9mm pistol. There were a lot of complaints about that, but 90 years of experience demonstrated that you should not depend on a pistol in the heat of combat. ..." ...

"An 11-year-old boy was arrested at William Henry Brazier Elementary School after a teacher found a loaded .22 caliber pistol in his book bag, police said.

Police spokesman Cpl. Marcus Young said the fifth-grader was charged with possession of a gun on school premises and was taken to the Strickland Youth Center.

Young said the boy was apparently eating something in a classroom Tuesday and was told by a teacher to get rid of the item.

He said the teacher became suspicious when the boy took an unusually long time going through his bag.
The teacher then reached into the book bag to get the item but found the pistol instead.

"It was the diligence of this teacher that really helped in this situation," school system spokeswoman Nancy Pierce said.
