Few rounds are as iconic as the .45-70, which has withstood the test of time. Would you believe me if I told you there was another time-tested option with less kick?

The .38-55 Winchester is that option, but can it hang with its big-bore counterpart?

So, you’ve decided you want to go bear hunting? If you’re considering using a .45 ACP to bag a big bear, please rethink your life choices...Because that’s a terrible idea!

The .45 ACP is great for self-defense; it’s a hard-hitting caliber that will easily protect you from two-legged varmints. Unfortunately, bears have a much thicker hide, bones, fur, and body mass than the .45 ACP can comfortably handle. It just doesn’t have adequate stopping power or deep penetration needed for taking down big game animals.

Louisiana's Legislature is likely to expand gun rights for law-abiding citizens during a three-week Special Session called by Republican Gov. Jeff Landry designed to crack down on crime that begins at the Capitol Monday.

Two bills have been filed to allow adults 18 and older to carry concealed handguns without the training or permits that are required now. A third has been filed that would provide a level of immunity from civil liability for someone who uses a concealed handgun to shoot a person in self defense.

Nobody has ever said that the .22 Long Rifle makes a man-stopper defensive cartridge. However people still carry it for self-defense purposes. Maybe people have disabilities that preclude a more traditional centerfire cartridge for defensive purposes. Others prefer the ultra-petite size and weight of some small pocket pistols. Or there may be budgetary or availability considerations in a person’s life.

A Prescott Republican lawmaker warned over the weekend that Arizona could see a crackdown on guns should Democrats win control of the Legislature this fall. He said it like that’s a bad thing. Rep. Quang Nguyen was attending a gun rights rally on Saturday, just three days after gunmen transformed a Kansas City Chiefs victory parade into a shooting gallery, killing a mother of two and wounding 22 others, more than half of them children.

Pointing to a fatal Christmas Eve shooting in Pinellas County that began as an argument between teen brothers over presents, lawmakers say penalties for youth who illegally possess guns must be increased. Both the House and Senate are advancing proposals that would change a minor’s first illegal possession of a firearm from a first-degree misdemeanor to a third-degree felony, a more serious charge.

It is the fourth year in a row that Del. Doug Smith, R-Mercer, has introduced a conceal carry bill for teachers, and it is on its way to a House vote this week. House Bill 4299 would allow for teachers who have concealed carry permits to volunteer to carry a concealed gun, Taser or stun-gun at school to use in the event of a shooter at school. This bill also requires them to get additional training from law enforcement with the state and county.

California arrested a man last month for the high crime of owning about 250 firearms, a million rounds of ammunition and a few cans. In most states that would make the man a great neighbor. In Texas it would make him a very eligible bachelor to the ladies. Unfortunately, the statists in California don’t have a lot of love for the little people owning effective defensive firearms.

Just when you thought every last gun company had filled the launch cards by the end of the outdoor industry's January SHOT Show in Las Vegas, there’s more.

It seemed there were more hot new items at the Safari Club International (SCI) show in Nashville, Tennessee, than ever before. There’s no denying the lineup includes far more premium than budget offerings, but there are plenty of practical and underrated buys. Here are a few can’t-miss guns and ammo from the companies displaying at SCI.
