On Friday, Maine received an F rating on gun safety from a gun violence prevention group. The advocacy group, Giffords Law Center cited loose gun regulations as the reason for the failing grade. Maine doesn’t require a permit to own or carry a gun and the state does not require background checks for private sales. Gun rights advocates argue that Maine’s low homicide rate justifies the lack of stringent gun laws. The executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine says that Maine’s low homicide rate is impressive considering how many people own and use guns. |

Introduced by Alexander Arms at the 2004 SHOT Show, the 6.5mm Grendel was developed in an intermediate caliber that would outperform the 5.56x45 round and would be effective up to 800 yards out. It also needed to be chambered in the AR-15 platform, including the double stack magazine configuration. The resulting cartridge has a “necked up” case based on the 6mm PPC benchrest cartridge. |

It’s not Thanksgiving, but turkey is just as popular in Kansas as if it was November. Coming up on April 1, turkey hunting season begins. All of Kansas is open for turkey hunting in April, dependent upon the category of the permit, but that doesn’t mean you can grab a shotgun and search around the prairie. Kansas is divided up into six units for hunting this bird. Unit 4 isn’t open for hunting in the fall, but it is in the spring with a special permit. |

Americans across the country have used legal guns to defend themselves and thwart crimes, but the reports often fly under the radar and most people are unaware how often guns are used in self-defense cases. "Having a gun is by far the safest course of action when people are facing a criminal by themselves," Dr. John Lott, an economist and president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, told Fox News Digital. He pointed to women in particular, who "behave passively" and are "about 2.4 times more likely to end up being seriously injured than a woman who has a gun to protect herself." |

Last week, a number of pro-gun bills continued to advance in Arizona. On Thursday, the House passed House Bill 2414 by a vote of 31-27. It allows law-abiding citizens to store their loaded firearms in their locked personal vehicles while parked on school grounds. This ensures that parents are able to pick-up and drop-off students without first having to stop and unload their firearms before driving onto school grounds, or deviating from their route to park off-campus. So-called “gun-free zones” are arbitrary boundaries that only disarm law-abiding citizens and leave them defenseless while doing nothing to deter criminals. HB 2414 has been transmitted to the Senate for further consideration. |

Browning officially began business in 1878, although the genius behind it was already hard at work years before. John Moses Browning was born in 1855 and at the age of 13 used spare parts to assemble a slide-action rifle for his 10-year-old brother’s birthday. The pair formed the John Moses and Matthew Sandefur Browning Company in Ogden, Utah, in 1878, aptly named for the siblings. John Moses immediately began work in a single-shot rifle, which received a patent a year later. A factory was established in 1880, but the firearm caught the eye of Connecticut-based Winchester.
