And it’s not just guns being bought and hoarded. Gold sales are skyrocketing. In January 2009, the U.S. Mint sold more American Eagle coins than it shipped in the entire year of 2007, and gold prices just topped $1,000 an ounce. You’d think people didn’t trust the markets or the dollar any more.
Certain people are serious about doing something about what they think is an unacceptable socialization of America.... What would Texas have if it left the Union?
Igor Panarin, the Russian professor and former KGB analyst predicted the breakup of the United States in 2010, giving it “a 55-45% chance.”
The list of states and sections of states that have talked secession is very long.

A Pakistani border region struggling against Taliban and al-Qaida militants will distribute 30,000 rifles to villagers in hopes that local militias can help the provincial government regain control, a top official said Sunday.
Similar village militias, backed by the United States, have been credited with reducing violence in Iraq, and a comparable initiative is under way in Afghanistan. --- Isn't it funny how governments, whose only reason for existence is to protect the people, so often have to call on the people to save the government?

Republican politicians on Thursday called for a sweeping new federal law that would require all Internet providers and operators of millions of Wi-Fi access points, even hotels, local coffee shops, and home users, to keep records about users for two years to aid police investigations.
The legislation, which echoes a measure proposed by one of their Democratic colleagues three years ago, would impose unprecedented data retention requirements on a broad swath of Internet access providers and is certain to draw fire from businesses and privacy advocates.
...
Translated, the Internet Safety Act applies not just to AT&T, Comcast, Verizon, and so on--but also to the tens of millions of homes with Wi-Fi access points or wired routers that use the standard method of dynamically assigning temporary addresses. (That method is called Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, or DHCP.) |

Measure intended to prevent mentally ill from getting weapons criticized. CARSON CITY -- Lawmakers were asked Friday to support a bill stepping up record-keeping to help prevent the mentally ill from obtaining guns, but they were warned by a critic of the plan that it's a "stacked deck" targeting constitutional rights.
Deputy Attorney General Kerry Benson told Assembly Judiciary Committee members that Assembly Bill 46 is required under a 2007 federal law change and federal funds could be lost if it's not passed.

(AP) Lawmakers were asked Friday to back a bill stepping up state record-keeping to help keep guns away from the mentally ill, but were told by a critic of the plan that it's a "stacked deck" targeting Nevadans' constitutional rights... Under AB46, any court records on mental competency, insanity pleas, forced admissions to mental health facilities or appointments of a guardian for someone deemed to be incompetent would have to be forwarded to the state's central repository for crime records...the ACLU said the bill "presents a stacked deck against Nevadans and their constitutional rights" by making it easy for them to lose their constitutional rights to own weapons and creating "a huge uphill battle" to get those rights restored. |

DeKalb’s CEO gave the county police chief a “pre-termination notice” Friday and ordered him to reply by Monday.
Chief Executive Officer Burrell Ellis said he will make a final decision on whether police Chief Terrell Bolton is fired after receiving Bolton’s response... The CEO said Bolton had been insubordinate, misused county property and engaged in conduct unbecoming an officer... all actionable under the county’s merit system rules. The alleged offenses involve countermanding Ellis’ own orders, misuse of county vehicles and abuse of compensatory time, among other things.
Bolton denied doing anything wrong. He said Ellis was “grasping for straws” to get rid of him, using actions by Bolton under the former CEO.. |

The story isn’t new in any significant way but I’ve noticed it is being brought up more and more. Either things are getting worse or the US government and the main stream media is looking for something to distract the people. A civil war in Mexico would be a great pro-police state propaganda opportunity. “We need to secure the border. We need (more) military personel inside the borders of the USA. We need to crack down on drug dealers and users. We need to get guns out of the hands of these people.” |

Sen. Doug Jackson, D-Dickson, has filed legislation that would ban the sale of “microstamped” firearms and ammunition, calling them an infringement on the Second Amendment right to bear arms.
California has passed a law mandating microstamping of firearms, “and I predict that Tennessee will pass a law banning it,” Sen. Jackson said.
Called the “Second Amendment Protection Act,” the bill would outlaw sale of firearms and ammunition that are laser-engraved, or microstamped, to identify the buyer of the firearm or ammunition after it has been shot.
“This process does little to track criminals, but it does a lot to eclipse our Second Amendment right to bear arms,” Sen. Jackson said. |

Permit holders may like that no one knows they may be carrying a gun. What about the other 18 million Floridians? The right to carry a concealed weapon should not trample the right to know who has a permit to carry one. Those carrying guns might feel safer, but what about everyone else who cannot know if their neighbor or co-worker is carrying one? Lawmakers should remove the exemption from the public records law and make the names of permit holders' public again.

Unable to stop Florida from issuing concealed weapons permits, the St. Petersburg Times raises the right-to-know red herring.
It is juvenile.
What part of “concealed” does the newspaper’s editorial board not understand?
After years of trying to stop the right to protect and defend oneself, the St. Petersburg Times and other liberals in Florida lost the battle on liberalizing the concealed weapons law. |

Although only about 34.5% of households have a gun, there are an estimated 193 million guns in America. Some estimates range as high as 250 million. That's almost one gun for every man, woman and child in the United States. Guns are not just in urban and rural homes, they're in homes everywhere – cities, towns, suburbs and farms. |

Sanders (D-Laurelton) turned in a shotgun on behalf of a constitutent to kick off a gun buyback program in Queens. "People have to turn in that stuff before it gets turned on you," Sanders said to a small crowd outside a Laurelton church that served as a buyback center. The WSJ seemingly contradicts itself. It concludes the 14th paragraph by stating that most of the Mexican drug cartels' weapons "...come from...[t]he U.S." However, the text of the paragraph addresses "...fearsome arsenals of [RPG's], bazookas and automatic weapons..." So Wall Street Journal, where in the U.S., does one buy RPG's? I would really like to know. |

It has been illegal for Minnesota hunters and shooters to transport loaded or uncased firearms in a vehicle for more than 80 years.
The Department of Natural Resources says it should stay that way. But Rep. David Dill, DFL-Crane Lake, says the law is unneeded and it's time to change it.
Dill is author of a bill that would allow people to transport uncased and unloaded rifles, shotguns and bows in their vehicles. The bill -- which was approved last week by the House Game, Fish and Forestry Division Committee, chaired by Dill -- was amended to require that the guns be unloaded. Another amendment clarifies that handguns still would have to be transported cased, unless the owner has a permit to carry a concealed handgun. |

Jeffrey Maxwell, a 30-year-old student at Western Oregon University who served in the Marines, always carries a loaded two-bullet derringer in his front pocket that's so small it looks like it could be his keys.
He has a license to carry and conceal the gun, but he never takes it out or talks about it on campus because he doesn't want to scare anyone. It's only for protection, he says.
State law allows him to carry his gun in most public places. But the university says he can't carry it on campus -- license or no license. Maxwell's case might finally settle the long-standing conflict in court for all seven public universities in Oregon. Maxwell says he carries a gun to be ready for "that one nut" who wants to harm others. |

Since the Founders believed these things and included gun rights in the Bill of Rights to be protected as one of the 'unalienable rights' of citizens, all of our so-called 'reasonable restrictions' on gun rights are illegal.
The common argument, for example, in favor of gun control compares firearms registration with getting a driver's license. But the two cannot be compared because getting a driver's license is not a Constitutional right but a privilege granted by states. |
