VANCOUVER — An anti-gang rally in suburban Vancouver was told Sunday that B.C. will show zero tolerance for gun offences and “take back the streets” from gangs.
B.C. prosecutors will seek jail time for any offence involving guns, said B.C. Solicitor General John van Dongen, to applause from the crowd of about 500.
“Prosecutors will ask that no bail be granted for any gun-related offences,” van Dongen said. “We will pursue every gun offence to the maximum.
“You’ve had enough. We’ve had enough. We’re going to take our streets back,” he said.
The rally was held to address a spate of 12 shootings in 16 days in Metro Vancouver...
Signs included “Judges are the problem” and “Stop the violence, United for change.” |

While the state legislature is pushing bills that would relax some gun laws, Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton and county commissioners are championing a pair of proposed laws that would boost penalties for repeat offenders and people who carry guns without permits.
Commissioners will vote today on two crime-fighting proposals, one from Wharton that would make it a felony instead of a misdemeanor for first-time offenders who are caught illegally carrying guns.
The second, sponsored by Commissioner Mike Ritz, would enhance sentencing for repeat felony and misdemeanor offenders. It is not specifically related to gun crimes and would basically require more mandatory prison time for repeat criminals. |

Daniel Lee and Erin Beckwith were eating dinner at the Green Papaya restaurant in Oakley...We were out celebrating a friends birthday. And didn't hear anything. Next thing we know we saw a number of cop cars and we saw the lights outside and had no idea what was going on," said Beckwith... just feet away the family-owned Natural Life Nutrition Center had just been robbed. The clerk face to face with the armed robber was the owner's son... "He complied with the demands that were made by the gunman. As the gunman turned to leave, he felt threatened once again. The gunman raised his firearm towards the employee of the store. At that point, the employee then returned fire,"...

Another Chicago cop is suspected of framing drivers with false arrests for drunken driving, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.
Joe D. Parker, 59, an officer in the Chicago Police Department's Traffic Enforcement Unit, has been placed on desk duty pending an internal police investigation.
The Cook County state's attorney's office, which is also investigating Parker, has moved to dismiss dozens of DUI arrests he made, according to sources who said investigators began scrutinizing the 23-year police veteran's DUI arrests after video from his squad car did not appear to match an account he gave in an arrest report...
The city also paid $5,000 to settle another false-arrest claim against Parker, who could not be reached for comment. |

This is a statement by Sen Marcia Karrow with regards to the outcome of the NJ Senate hearing on Bill S-1774/A-339 which is NJ's "One Gun a Month* Bill.
“The best way to combat crime is to enforce tough laws that put criminals in jail and allow average citizens to protect themselves. This bill does nothing to advance those goals. Most importantly, this bill will not keep guns out of the hands of criminals, most of whom need only one gun to ruin the lives of many people.” |

On Thursday, February 19 House Bill 2264 was proposed and referred to the House Judiciary Committee.
The bill would impose sweeping restrictions on our Second Amendment rights and set the stage for a ban on all private firearm sales in Washington State. HB2264 would require that all firearms transactions taking place at gun shows be subjected to background checks, even those occurring between family and friends. Any violations would be a gross misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in prison. If passed, Brady and Co. will no doubt call for a ban on all private sales as well, as they have in other states.
No hearing date has been scheduled and the cut-off date for bills to leave their committee is this Wednesday, February 25. |

Montana lawmakers are betting the words 'Made in Montana' might be able to trigger a court showdown with the federal government, while also freeing some gun owners and dealers from background check and licensing requirements.
Under a proposed law before the Legislature, firearms, weapons components and ammunition made in Montana and kept in Montana would be exempt from federal regulation, potentially releasing some Montanans from national gun registration and licensing laws. The legislation could also free gun purchasers in the state from background checks.

"As scandals from Wall Street to Washington roil the public trust, the justice system in Luzerne County, in the heart of Pennsylvania's struggling coal country, has also fallen prey to corruption. The county has been rocked by a kickback scandal involving two elected judges who essentially jailed kids for cash. Many of the children had appeared before judges without a lawyer." |

Remember back in February 2008 when President Obama came to Boise and spoke at a big rally? He made a big point of saying, "I won't take away your guns," because those nasty, dishonest Republicans were saying that Obama was going to do that.
The afternoon of the inauguration, the White House Web site's Urban Policy page admitted that he is indeed going to try and do exactly that. "Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent."

(AP) — Jamaican regulators say they are forbidding all explicit references to sex and violence over the airwaves. The new rules from the island's broadcast commission ban any song or music video that depicts sexual acts or glorifies gun violence, murder, rape or arson. The Saturday announcement follows a Feb. 6 ban that specifically targeted dancehall tunes and videos depicting "daggering" — a dance style popular among Jamaican youth that features pelvic grinding simulating sex. The beat-driven fusion of reggae and rap known as "dancehall" is hugely popular in Jamaica despite recurrent controversy over its lyrics and the dance style. The latest ban also targets hip-hop and soca, a dance music that originated in Trinidad and Tobago. |

"If you can't ban guns, make them too expensive to own or use. That seems to be the ideology of the gun grabbers these days. In the past we've seen attempts to make ammunition too expensive to buy. Obama has been in favor of increasing Federal Excise taxes on weapons & ammunition by 500%. The latest attempt is to require liability insurance that would be prohibitively expensive to buy, if it could be obtained at all.
Illinois State House Democrat Kenneth Dunkin has introduced HB 0687 which if passed & signed into law would require all Illinois firearms owners to insure their firearms with $1,000,000.00 liability policies against damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of their firearms by anyone . . ." |

In the first 5 weeks of his presidency...Obama has acted so rashly that at least 11 states have decided that his brand of “hope” equates to an intolerable expansion of the federal government’s authority over the states... Washington, New Hampshire, Arizona, Montana, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, California, Georgia, South Carolina, & Texas...passed resolutions reminding Obama that the 10th Amendment protects the rights of the states, which are the rights of the people, by limiting the power of the federal government. These resolutions call on Obama to “cease and desist” from his reckless government expansion and also indicate that federal laws and regulations implemented in violation of the 10th Amendment can be nullified by the states. |

In the year 2016, at the end of the Urban Revolt before the gun ban, there were over ten thousand deaths and injuries from guns in the borough of Manhattan alone. Before we legalized prostitution, there was a rape or attempted rape every three seconds. Of course, we still have rape, because it has less to do with sex than with power, but the figures have dropped. Licensed prostitutes don't have pimps, so they aren't beaten, battered, killed. And they can't use drugs. There was a time when women went to butchers to deal with an unwanted pregnancy. When they had to risk their lives or ruin them. Babies were born blind, deaf, deformed before genetic engineering, and the research it made possible to repair in vitro. It's not a perfect world, but . . . you realize it could be a lot worse. |
