"The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today announced the launch of a national effort to counter billionaire New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's campaign of fear against firearms and their owners."

"Bloomberg has teamed up with Mayors Against Illegal Guns to send a moving billboard truck around the country claiming that 34 Americans are 'murdered with guns every day.' CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb said Bloomberg's campaign 'tells less than half of a story, so we're setting the record straight.'" ...

A Brief History of Toothless Gun Control Laws

... "I have since wondered how many of the 100,000-plus denials per year caused by the Brady Act are cases like mine. It turns out no one is keeping statistics on wrongful denial. My point here is that every piece of national gun control legislation handed down from GCA68 on has been nothing but lip service from Washington, and not only does next to nothing to reduce violent crime and keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people but puts in place a system that harasses law abiding gun owners." ...

"The letter 'Is Second Amendment killing people in Mexico?' (AC-T, Jan. 30) made a patently false claim and contained other, in my opinion, egregious errors which cry out for correction."

"The writer claimed that we face virtually unlimited sale of firearms. Many more knowledgeable experts have estimated our total number of laws regulating firearms to exceed 22,000. In fact, it is difficult to quickly identify the very few types of commerce that are more highly regulated." ...

"Gun laws are sort of like ink blots. What people see in them is largely determined by their emotional predisposition."

"The Giffords shooting tragedy in Tucson offered a new framework for viewing gun regulations. One expected reaction from the shootings is a push to tighten gun laws and ownership. That didn’t happen in Arizona; if anything, proposed state changes affirm Arizona as a leader in Second Amendment rights." ...

"This video, posted at ammoland.com, singularly fails to mention the role that hunting has played, is playing and will play in the return of Big Horn Sheep to The Lone Star State. (Not to mention the role hunters played in their disappearance.) Maybe that’s because those conservation efforts might lose sympathy if the general public knew that the people paying for the animals’ reintroduction are looking forward to shooting them. People like the Texas Big Horn Society, who call it like they see it (after the jump). But what about you? Do you think environmentalists owe hunters a debt of gratitude? Hunters have generated billions through the The Pittman-Robertson Act. Win win? Or sin win?" ...

"'The shocking shooting of an Arizona congresswoman last month has not damaged the western state's love affair with guns,' monstersandcritics.com reports. 'The rampage at a shopping mall left six people dead and 14 injured. But lawmakers are not about to tighten the state’s famously lax gun laws. Rather they plan to bolster the status of firearms by naming the Colt revolver as the official state gun. On Wednesday a key legislative body approved a bill to make the Colt the official state firearm in recognition of the gun's role in helping settle the desert territory in the late 19th century.' Ha! it gets better . . ." ...

Why Farago (And You) Shouldn’t Modify A Self-Defense Gun’s Trigger

"Lets start with this: why would a person want to install a trigger that requires less input force to fire the gun? Because it makes the gun easier to shoot. Why is this bad on a gun that could be used in a self-defense situation? Because it makes the gun easier to shoot. As in, easier to shoot unintentionally, while under stress, confronting an unidentified individual in your house, in the middle of the night, only seconds after you were startled out of paralyzing R.E.M. sleep. It’s also easier to shoot when rapidly drawing from its holster, your finger finding the trigger while the gun is still pointed at your foot. And it’s easier to shoot when trying to cram it back into that same holster ... You get the idea." ...

... "Texas has some of the loosest gun laws in the nation, including a conceal-carry statute. Yet this is not good enough for the Republicans who control the state government because they have been pushing even more deregulation. ... Over half of the State House has signed on as co-sponsors of the Senate bill and Governor Rick Perry has promised to sign it. Rick Perry is a ridiculous Yosemite Sam type character. Like Yosemite he struts around the State House with a gun while bragging about shooting coyotes. He even carries a gun while jogging. On the issue of concealment, Nevada is designated as an open carry state and concealed weapons (CCW) permits are available to our citizens.
